Why This Underwater Tray Earns Its Place on the Table

The subject is a submerged scene with coral forms rising through drifting kelp, small fish threading between them and light breaking down from the surface and the palette is deep teal and marine blue graduating to pale turquoise, with coral accents; together they give this Underwater design a cool and immersive feel. Underwater scenes work as escapist decor, and the graded light is what makes them convincing. It appeals to anyone who wants a piece of homeware with a story attached. Designed for bathrooms and calm living spaces, it holds up as decor rather than as something you finish and put in a drawer. Reference CP21-1. The light falls from the top edge in graded blues, which is what gives the scene its sense of depth rather than a flat blue field.

underwater scenes work as escapist decor, and the graded light is what makes them convincing. Hung or set in bathrooms and calm living spaces, the cool tone keeps it coherent.

DOTZSO assembles these kits so the process stays restful and the result is genuinely functional. Everything ships in one box — the printed wooden tray, DOTZSO resin drills, tray, comfort-grip pen, wax caddy and illustrated guidance.

Built to be used rather than displayed, the tray pairs a solid body with a fully seated and sealed drill face.

Coverage runs across the whole tray face, so nothing is left printed-only.

What’s in the Box

  • 1 × printed wooden tray with cut-in handles
  • DOTZSO signature resin drills, sorted by colour (with extra drills included)
  • Diamond painting tray
  • Comfort-grip applicator pen
  • Wax caddy
  • Pictorial step-by-step instructions

How to Make It

  1. Lay the printed tray face flat and let it settle before starting.
  2. Find the legend strip and match the first symbol to its drill colour.
  3. Press the pen tip into the wax caddy, then touch it to a drill – the drill lifts and stays on the tip.
  4. Set the drill onto the matching printed symbol and press lightly. Work one colour block at a time rather than across the whole tray.
  5. Continue until the face is covered, then press the finished surface flat with a book for an hour to seat every drill.
  6. Seal the surface fully before the tray goes into service, or the drills will lift under a plate.

Work through it at whatever pace suits, then start using the tray rather than displaying it.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are all the parts of this Underwater wooden tray kit included in one box?

Yes. The Underwater wooden tray kit ships complete with the wooden tray and cut-in handles; you drill the printed face and then the tray goes into service, plus the DOTZSO resin drills, tray, applicator pen, wax caddy and pictorial instructions. Nothing else needs sourcing. Reference CP21-1.

How resilient is the Underwater finish in practice?

Once the drills are seated and the surface is sealed, the Underwater design holds under normal use. The surface is sealed, so it handles mugs and plates in normal use. Very hot pans straight from the hob are another matter — use a trivet, and the sealing step is the single biggest factor in how long the finish lasts. Daily contact is well within what the Underwater surface is built for.

What is recommended for the Underwater surface?

Wipe with a damp cloth and dry immediately. Do not submerge it or put it through a dishwasher — the adhesive layer under the drills is not built for a soak. For the Underwater palette, deep teal and marine blue graduating to pale turquoise, tones show dust less than pale grounds, so a light pass is usually enough. Do not soak the Underwater piece, even briefly.

Is the Underwater design a full-coverage project?

The face is drilled across the whole surface, so the finished tray has complete coverage without bare wood showing. The Underwater artwork is drawn so that a submerged scene with coral forms rising through drifting kelp reads clearly at any distance. No background area of the Underwater design is left bare.

How many sessions does the Underwater wooden tray kit need?

Plan for a few sessions rather than one. Working a single colour block at a time is faster than moving across the tray at random. The Underwater design is cool and immersive, which tends to make it easier to work in short sessions. Progress is steady rather than dramatic on the Underwater piece.

Which Underwater size works for everyday use?

The range covers 7.8 × 11.8 in, 9.8 × 13.8 in and 12.2 × 16.1 in, so there is a format for a bedside table or a full dinner service. This listing is the 9.8×13.8 in format. Reference CP21-1.

I’ve been doing these for about a year and this is a solid kit. The base is flat and doesn’t rock on the table. Each color was packed generously, I had plenty to spare. Great way to slow down at the end of a busy day. Going to order a few more for Christmas presents. Highly recommend.

The handles make it feel like real serveware, not just a craft. The drills have a nice sparkle to them, not dull or flat. The drills sit nice and flush, no gaps showing the surface underneath. I like having something mindful to do that doesn’t need a screen. I keep remotes and coasters on mine when it’s not in use. Will be back for more.

Heavier and nicer in person than it looked online. Nothing arrived damaged, and everything was sealed properly. Looks beautiful on the coffee table with a candle on it. Will be back for more.

I’ve been doing these for about a year and this is a solid kit. No missing colors and no shortage on the ones used most. You’ll want to seal it yourself if you’re putting wet glasses on it. Gave it as a housewarming gift and it was the favorite present. Minor things, but I’d still buy it again.

Ordered two kits, this was the one I finished first. The drill design sits flush with the tray surface. The adhesive is plenty sticky, the drills stay exactly where I put them. Keeps my hands busy during long flights and hotel evenings. Great value for what you get. Easy recommendation.

I use mine for morning coffee and it’s held up well. Handles are sturdy, I can carry a full mug without worrying. Colors match the listing photo really closely. Not something I’d put in the dishwasher or soak, obviously. I did this with my granddaughter on the weekends and we both got into it. Gave it to my granddaughter as a gift and it was a big hit. Would order again despite the small issues.

I’ve wanted a tray like this for a while. Size is right for two mugs and a small plate. The drilled panel sits slightly proud of the rim. I set aside twenty minutes a night for this and it’s become a ritual. It sits on the entry table and catches keys and mail. Good kit overall, just a couple of small things.

Made this for our coffee table and get compliments on it constantly. The base is flat and doesn’t rock on the table. It’s the kind of hobby that makes an evening feel well spent. Would make a really nice gift, and it arrives boxed nicely. Not something to soak or put in the dishwasher. Small issues, but nothing that would stop me ordering again.
