About This Butterfly Design

The Butterfly artwork on this canvas frames a butterfly with wings held open, each panel showing graded colour from deep centre to translucent edge, antennae and body picked out in fine detail, worked in iridescent blues and violets shifting toward warm orange at the wing edges. The overall character is delicate and alive rather than theatrical. Butterfly motifs work in the transitional spaces of a home — the places that do not need a theme, just something with life in it. It suits makers who would rather build a piece of decor than buy one. Designed for hallways and entryways, it holds up as decor rather than as something you finish and put in a drawer. Reference Q4882. Butterfly motifs work in the transitional spaces of a home — the places that do not need a theme, just something with life in it. Wing panels are worked as separate colour zones, so the shimmer shifts as you move past the finished piece.

butterfly motifs work in the transitional spaces of a home — the places that do not need a theme, just something with life in it. The delicate colouring is what allows it to sit in hallways and entryways without dominating.

The DOTZSO approach is deliberate: a canvas detailed enough to hang, and a process calm enough to repeat. All of it ships together — colour-printed canvas, DOTZSO resin drills, tray, comfort-grip pen, wax caddy and illustrated instructions.

The canvas is printed with a clear symbol and colour key, which removes the guesswork – you match, place, and move on. That is the difference between a relaxing session and a frustrating one.

This is a single-canvas kit, kept self-contained for an uncomplicated evening.

What’s in the Box

  • 1 × colour-printed canvas
  • DOTZSO signature resin drills, sorted by colour (with extra drills included)
  • Diamond painting tray
  • Comfort-grip applicator pen
  • Wax caddy
  • Pictorial step-by-step instructions

How to Make It

  1. Unroll the canvas on a flat surface and let it settle under something weighted if it has been rolled tight.
  2. Find the legend strip and match the first symbol to its drill colour.
  3. Press the pen tip into the wax caddy, then touch it to a drill – the drill lifts and stays on the tip.
  4. Set the drill onto the matching printed symbol and press lightly. Work one colour block at a time rather than jumping around the canvas.
  5. Continue until the design is complete, then press the finished surface flat with a book for an hour to seat every drill.
  6. Seat the canvas in its frame, or store it flat, once the surface has been pressed.

Work at your own speed, then frame the canvas rather than storing it rolled.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the Butterfly diamond painting kit delivered as one complete package?

Yes. The Butterfly diamond painting kit ships complete with everything shown in the product images, so there is nothing else to source, plus the DOTZSO resin drills, tray, applicator pen, wax caddy and pictorial instructions. Nothing else needs sourcing. Reference Q4882.

Will the Butterfly finish dull or lift with use?

Once the drills are seated and the surface is sealed, the Butterfly design holds under normal use. The sealed surface handles normal handling, and the sealing step is the single biggest factor in how long the finish lasts. It holds its finish as long as it is not left soaking.

Is the Butterfly diamond painting kit dishwasher safe?

Wipe with a damp cloth and dry immediately. Do not submerge it or put it through a dishwasher — the adhesive layer under the drills is not built for a soak. For the Butterfly palette, iridescent blues and violets shifting toward warm orange at the wing edges tones show dust less than pale grounds, so a light pass is usually enough. The Butterfly surface is not built for immersion.

Is the Butterfly diamond painting kit drilled across the whole surface?

The round resin drills are colour-sorted and matched to the printed symbol key. The Butterfly artwork is drawn so that a butterfly with wings held open reads clearly at any distance. Nothing on the Butterfly face is left untreated.

Does the Butterfly project take longer than expected?

Plan for two to four evenings, depending on the size of the canvas. The Butterfly design is delicate and alive, which tends to make it easier to work in short sessions. The Butterfly piece can be paused at any point.

Can someone new to crafts do the Butterfly diamond painting kit?

Yes. The symbol key is printed directly on the canvas and the pictorial instructions walk through the whole process, so no prior diamond painting experience is needed. The Butterfly layout is delicate and alive, which helps on a first attempt. No extra purchases are required.

Took it slow, a section at a time, and really enjoyed the process. Colors match the listing photo really closely. I do this on the porch in the summer and it’s lovely. It fits perfectly with the decor in the living room. Would make a great gift too.

I’ve tried a few brands and this one holds up well. The drills sit nice and flush, no gaps showing the surface underneath. I do this on the porch in the summer and it’s lovely. Some colors came with barely any extras, though I didn’t run out. Gave it to my wife as a gift and it was a big hit. Happy enough that I’d buy another.

I’m a repeat DOTZSO customer at this point and this kit did not disappoint. Nice large format, the finished piece makes a real statement. I keep it set up on a side table and do a bit whenever I have ten minutes. Definitely recommend giving it a try.

Came quickly and was packaged really well. It’s a charming butterfly piece and everyone comments on it. Nice large format, the finished piece makes a real statement. It’s a lovely quiet hobby, and I like having something to show for it at the end. The canvas had a slight crease from shipping, though it flattened out. Happy with it, with a few caveats.

I framed it once finished and it looks like real artwork. Edges have enough margin for framing. I’ve been doing it in the evenings with my partner, we take turns on sections. Very happy with this purchase.

  7. Oscar P. –

I hung it in the hallway and people always ask where I got it. The adhesive is plenty sticky, the drills stay exactly where I put them. I keep it set up on a side table and do a bit whenever I have ten minutes. The butterfly piece really pulls the room together once it’s hung. Once framed it looks like something you’d buy in a gallery. Solid kit, would order again.

A bigger project than I’ve done before, but so worth the time. The winged detail comes together really nicely once it’s finished. The drills are bright and consistent in size, no weird off-color batches. Great value for what you get. Will be back for more.

Ordered on a Monday, had it by the weekend. It was worth every evening I put into it. A couple of the darker shades were hard to tell apart in low light. Small things aside, it’s a good buy.

Bought this as a reward for getting through a busy stretch at work. The paper backing peeled away without pulling up any drills. No missing colors and no shortage on the ones used most. Perfect for slow evenings when you don’t want more screen time. It’s hanging on the wall and looks fantastic. Will be ordering more for gifts.

The printed canvas is crisp and the symbols are easy to read. Symbols are printed clearly even in the busy areas of the winged section. The numbering was consistent across the whole canvas. Really relaxing to do in the evening instead of scrolling. The winged artwork looks great up on the wall. It’s framed and hanging in the living room. A really lovely purchase.

A bigger project than I’ve done before, but so worth the time. There were extra drills left over in every color when I finished. Great way to slow down at the end of a busy day. Can’t wait to start the next one.

  19. Gail Cavanaugh (verified owner) –

Bought this as a centerpiece project for the season. The glue is tacky enough that I can reposition if I misplace a drill. Surprisingly calming, even for someone with a short attention span. There were slightly more drills than needed, so it took longer than planned. Once framed it looks like something you’d buy in a gallery. Minor quibbles aside, I’d buy it again.

The printed canvas is crisp and the symbols are easy to read. The print quality is sharp and the detail comes through. It’s hung in the bedroom and looks wonderful there. The canvas smell was noticeable for the first day or two. Minor gripes aside, I’d buy it again.

I picked this up on a whim and ended up really enjoying it. The canvas is a good weight and the print underneath is detailed. I set it up next to the window and do a few rows whenever the light is good. It fills the wall above the sofa nicely. Exactly what I was hoping for.

This was a birthday gift to myself and it hit the spot. The kit included more than enough drills for the full design. Took longer than the estimated time, but that’s on me. It was a pleasant way to spend a slow afternoon. It’s hanging in on the window seat now and looks great. Good enough that I’d buy another.

Honestly better quality than I expected for the price. The definition in the fine details holds up well. I did a little at a time and it never felt like a slog. It pulled the color scheme of the room together. A couple of the darker shades were hard to tell apart in low light. Good kit overall, just a couple of small things.

This one took some patience but the result is stunning. The winged colors are richer than the photos show. It came rolled and flattened out with no creases. The canvas arrived folded rather than rolled, took a while to flatten. It’s my go-to when I need a quiet evening. Still glad I ordered it overall.

I bought this for the detail work — it doesn’t feel repetitive. The finish is even across the whole piece. The drills have a nice sparkle to them, not dull or flat. Did most of it over a long weekend and it was such a pleasant way to pass the time. Really happy with the end result. I chose this one for the butterfly look. Exactly what I was hoping for.
