About This Butterfly Design

The Butterfly artwork on this canvas frames a butterfly with wings held open, each panel showing graded colour from deep centre to translucent edge, antennae and body picked out in fine detail, worked in iridescent blues and violets shifting toward warm orange at the wing edges. The overall character is delicate and alive rather than theatrical. Butterfly motifs work in the transitional spaces of a home — the places that do not need a theme, just something with life in it. It suits makers who would rather build a piece of decor than buy one. Designed for hallways and entryways, it holds up as decor rather than as something you finish and put in a drawer. Reference Q4882. Butterfly motifs work in the transitional spaces of a home — the places that do not need a theme, just something with life in it. butterfly motifs work in the transitional spaces of a home — the places that do not need a theme, just something with life in it. The delicate colouring is what allows it to sit in hallways and entryways without dominating.

The DOTZSO approach is deliberate: a canvas detailed enough to hang, and a process calm enough to repeat. All of it ships together — colour-printed canvas, DOTZSO resin drills, tray, comfort-grip pen, wax caddy and illustrated instructions.

The canvas is printed with a clear symbol and colour key, which removes the guesswork – you match, place, and move on. That is the difference between a relaxing session and a frustrating one.

This is a single-canvas kit, kept self-contained for an uncomplicated evening.

What’s in the Box

  • 1 × colour-printed canvas
  • DOTZSO signature resin drills, sorted by colour (with extra drills included)
  • Diamond painting tray
  • Comfort-grip applicator pen
  • Wax caddy
  • Pictorial step-by-step instructions

How to Make It

  1. Unroll the canvas on a flat surface and let it settle under something weighted if it has been rolled tight.
  2. Find the legend strip and match the first symbol to its drill colour.
  3. Press the pen tip into the wax caddy, then touch it to a drill – the drill lifts and stays on the tip.
  4. Set the drill onto the matching printed symbol and press lightly. Work one colour block at a time rather than jumping around the canvas.
  5. Continue until the design is complete, then press the finished surface flat with a book for an hour to seat every drill.
  6. Seat the canvas in its frame, or store it flat, once the surface has been pressed.

Work at your own speed, then frame the canvas rather than storing it rolled.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the Butterfly diamond painting kit delivered as one complete package?

Yes. The Butterfly diamond painting kit ships complete with everything shown in the product images, so there is nothing else to source, plus the DOTZSO resin drills, tray, applicator pen, wax caddy and pictorial instructions. Nothing else needs sourcing. Reference Q4882.

Will the Butterfly finish dull or lift with use?

Once the drills are seated and the surface is sealed, the Butterfly design holds under normal use. The sealed surface handles normal handling, and the sealing step is the single biggest factor in how long the finish lasts. It holds its finish as long as it is not left soaking.

Is the Butterfly diamond painting kit dishwasher safe?

Wipe with a damp cloth and dry immediately. Do not submerge it or put it through a dishwasher — the adhesive layer under the drills is not built for a soak. For the Butterfly palette, iridescent blues and violets shifting toward warm orange at the wing edges tones show dust less than pale grounds, so a light pass is usually enough. The Butterfly surface is not built for immersion.

Is the Butterfly diamond painting kit drilled across the whole surface?

The round resin drills are colour-sorted and matched to the printed symbol key. The Butterfly artwork is drawn so that a butterfly with wings held open reads clearly at any distance. Nothing on the Butterfly face is left untreated.

Does the Butterfly project take longer than expected?

Plan for two to four evenings, depending on the size of the canvas. The Butterfly design is delicate and alive, which tends to make it easier to work in short sessions. The Butterfly piece can be paused at any point.

Can someone new to crafts do the Butterfly diamond painting kit?

Yes. The symbol key is printed directly on the canvas and the pictorial instructions walk through the whole process, so no prior diamond painting experience is needed. The Butterfly layout is delicate and alive, which helps on a first attempt. No extra purchases are required.

I’ve tried a few brands and this one holds up well. The drills sit nice and flush, no gaps showing the surface underneath. I do this on the porch in the summer and it’s lovely. Some colors came with barely any extras, though I didn’t run out. Gave it to my wife as a gift and it was a big hit. Happy enough that I’d buy another.

Came quickly and was packaged really well. It’s a charming butterfly piece and everyone comments on it. Nice large format, the finished piece makes a real statement. It’s a lovely quiet hobby, and I like having something to show for it at the end. The canvas had a slight crease from shipping, though it flattened out. Happy with it, with a few caveats.

Ordered on a Monday, had it by the weekend. It was worth every evening I put into it. A couple of the darker shades were hard to tell apart in low light. Small things aside, it’s a good buy.

I’m not usually a craft person, but this one converted me. It looks stunning in natural light. I had to press the canvas under books overnight before starting. Still a good kit overall.

  5. Gail Cavanaugh (verified owner) –

Bought this as a centerpiece project for the season. The glue is tacky enough that I can reposition if I misplace a drill. Surprisingly calming, even for someone with a short attention span. There were slightly more drills than needed, so it took longer than planned. Once framed it looks like something you’d buy in a gallery. Minor quibbles aside, I’d buy it again.

  6. Gabriela Pickett (verified owner) –

The printed canvas is crisp and the symbols are easy to read. The print quality is sharp and the detail comes through. It’s hung in the bedroom and looks wonderful there. The canvas smell was noticeable for the first day or two. Minor gripes aside, I’d buy it again.

This was a birthday gift to myself and it hit the spot. The kit included more than enough drills for the full design. Took longer than the estimated time, but that’s on me. It was a pleasant way to spend a slow afternoon. It’s hanging in on the window seat now and looks great. Good enough that I’d buy another.

Honestly better quality than I expected for the price. The definition in the fine details holds up well. I did a little at a time and it never felt like a slog. It pulled the color scheme of the room together. A couple of the darker shades were hard to tell apart in low light. Good kit overall, just a couple of small things.

This one took some patience but the result is stunning. The winged colors are richer than the photos show. It came rolled and flattened out with no creases. The canvas arrived folded rather than rolled, took a while to flatten. It’s my go-to when I need a quiet evening. Still glad I ordered it overall.

I framed it once finished and it looks like real artwork. It came rolled and flattened out with no creases. It’s my screen-free hour in the evening. Hung it in the hallway and it brightens the whole space. Would have liked the drills pre-sorted by color. Would recommend it with those notes.

I’ve been doing these for about a year and this is a solid kit. It’s framed and on the wall now. I had to press the canvas under books overnight before starting. Minor gripes aside, I’d buy it again.

Been doing these for about two years and this kit is solid. It was worth every evening I spent on it. Pre-sorted drills would save time. Minor things, but I’d still buy it again.

Ordered this after finishing a smaller canvas and wanting more detail. Hung it in the hallway and it brightens the whole space. The canvas was creased on arrival and needed time to flatten. Small things aside, it’s a good buy.

  14. Celia Daniels (verified owner) –

I’ve done smaller kits and this felt like a proper project. The glue is tacky enough that I can reposition if I misplace a drill. It’s a calm, repetitive hobby and that’s exactly what I wanted. Would have liked the drills pre-sorted by color. I went with the butterfly version and the colors are lovely. Once it was framed it really pulled the room together. Would recommend it with those notes.

  15. Stevie Thomas (verified owner) –

This kept me busy for a solid month in the best way. The drills are uniform and sit flat with no gaps. A few bags weren’t labeled as clearly as the rest. I do it at the kitchen table while dinner simmers. Good enough that I’d buy another.

  16. Jordan Murray (verified owner) –

This was a bigger project and I loved every evening of it. Drills cover edge to edge with no bald spots. Nice to have something that gets me off my phone for a while. A couple of the symbols were close enough to double-check. Would recommend it with those notes.

I’ve done smaller kits and this felt like a proper project. The drills clicked into place without needing much pressure. The canvas had a faint mark from the printing on one edge. I worked through this over a few weeks of evenings and loved it. I’d order again, just knowing what to expect.

This one caught my eye and I’m glad it did. It fills the wall above the sofa nicely. The adhesive picked up a bit of dust while I was working over several days. Still a solid purchase.

This kept me busy through the whole winter. The canvas printing is crisp and the symbols are easy to read, even in low light. I worked through this over a few weeks of evenings and loved it. I went with the winged version and the colors are lovely. Really proud to have this hanging in the house. It took longer than the estimate, though that’s on me. Would still recommend it.

Took it slow, a section at a time, and really enjoyed the process. The finished piece looks stunning in natural light. A few drills had rough edges that needed picking off. I’d recommend it with that one note.

  21. Harper Carr (verified owner) –

Bought this because the design has real depth to it. There’s enough white space at the border for framing without cropping. I brought it on a weekend trip and finished most of it there. I’d have liked the border a touch wider for framing. Happy with it, with one small caveat.
