Why This Bird Eyeglass Case Earns Its Place in the Bag

The Bird motif is a bird perched with plumage layered from broad wing feathers to fine breast detail, claws gripping a simple branch, the colouring is rich browns, slate blues and cream with a bright eye ring, and the overall bearing is alert and natural. Bird studies reward close looking, which makes them a natural fit for hallways and anywhere you walk past. It fits a routine that involves a commute and a pair of glasses that has to survive it. Designed for studies, hallways and window-adjacent walls, it holds up as decor rather than as something you finish and put in a drawer. Reference Q85. Wing feathers are worked in overlapping rows so the surface has direction — you can feel the grain of the plumage That is the part worth noticing.

bird studies reward close looking, which makes them a natural fit for hallways and anywhere you walk past. Set it in studies, hallways and window-adjacent walls and the design explains itself without a word.

DOTZSO makes these cases for people who would rather their eyewear lived in something made than something bought. On opening the box you will find the printed case panel, DOTZSO resin drills, a sorting tray, a comfort-grip applicator pen, a wax caddy and pictorial instructions.

Nothing here is decorative-only. The panel is rigid, the drills are seated, and the surface is sealed for daily handling.

Full drill coverage across the panel is what gives the case an even finish rather than patches of bare board.

What’s in the Box

  • 1 × printed case panel
  • 1 × rigid case body / frame
  • DOTZSO signature resin drills, sorted by colour (with extra drills included)
  • Diamond painting tray
  • Comfort-grip applicator pen
  • Wax caddy

How to Make It

  1. Lay the printed case panel flat and let it settle before starting.
  2. Find the legend strip and match the first symbol to its drill colour.
  3. Press the pen tip into the wax caddy, then touch it to a drill – the drill lifts and stays on the tip.
  4. Set the drill onto the matching printed symbol and press lightly. Work one section at a time rather than across the whole panel.
  5. Continue until the panel is covered, then press the finished surface flat with a book for an hour to seat every drill.
  6. Seal the surface and fit the panel into the case frame once the drills are fully seated.

Take the making at an easy pace, then put the finished case to work rather than away.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does this eyeglass case kit contain the full Bird project?

Yes. The Bird eyeglass case kit ships complete with the case body and frame shown in the product images, plus the DOTZSO resin drills, tray, applicator pen, wax caddy and pictorial instructions. Nothing else needs sourcing. Reference Q85.

Will the Bird finish dull or lift with use?

Once the drills are seated and the surface is sealed, the Bird design holds under normal use. The rigid shell is what protects the drills in a bag, and the sealing step is the single biggest factor in how long the finish lasts. Light contact and normal carrying cause no lift on the Bird surface.

What cleaning method suits the Bird design?

Wipe with a damp cloth and dry immediately. Do not submerge it or put it through a dishwasher — the adhesive layer under the drills is not built for a soak. For the Bird palette, rich browns, slate blues and cream tones show dust less than pale grounds, so a light pass is usually enough. Dry immediately after any damp wipe.

Is the Bird surface drilled as one field?

The panel is drilled across the whole face, so the finished case has complete coverage. The Bird artwork is drawn so that a bird perched with plumage layered from broad wing feathers to fine breast detail reads clearly at any distance. The Bird artwork relies on the drills rather than printed fill.

How long does it take to work the Bird design?

Roughly one to two evenings for most people, depending on the pattern density. The Bird design is alert and natural, which tends to make it easier to work in short sessions. The Bird design has no awkward stages that slow you down.

What skill level does the Bird eyeglass case kit require?

Yes. The symbol key is printed directly on the case panel and the pictorial instructions walk through the whole process, so no prior diamond painting experience is needed. The Bird layout is alert and natural, which helps on a first attempt. No separate tools are required.

  1. Hugh Cain (verified owner) –

Such a nice little project to have on the go. Everything was bagged and labeled, so setup took five minutes. It’s practical and it looks nice, which is a rare combination. A magnetic closure would have been nicer than the snap. Still glad I ordered it overall.

  2. Lindsey Fortner (verified owner) –

These are such a small project that I finished one in an evening. It reads as a deliberate design choice, not a craft. There were slightly more drills than needed, so it took longer than planned. Still a good kit overall.

  3. Holly Finch (verified owner) –

I ordered this the day after finishing my last project. The cord is the right length to rest comfortably on my chest. One bead was slightly off-colour from the rest. It’s easy to lose track of time once you get going. Would buy again; the notes are minor.

  4. Ricky Dotson (verified owner) –

Perfect size for a first diamond art project. The drill shapes were clean, not many chipped or stuck-together pieces. Nice mindful project – you can’t think about much else while you’re placing drills. It lives in my bag and hasn’t tangled once. The multi-placer tip took some practice. Still a good kit overall.

  5. Irene Geiger (verified owner) –

Was looking for something to do with my hands in the evenings. The interior lining is soft, no scratches on my lenses. It arrives with quite a bit of packaging for the size. It’s become one of my favorite things in the house. Overall a good experience.

  6. Gladys Hale (verified owner) –

I’ve been doing these for about a year and this is a solid kit. My glasses are finally where I can find them. Only small gripe is that a few drills had little burrs on them. Still a solid purchase.

  7. Traci Schwartz –

This was a quick finish and I’ve used it every day since. My sister asked me to make her two more. The interior could use more padding. I’d recommend it with that one note.

  8. Cody W. (verified owner) –

I’ve made three of these now as gifts and everyone loves them. Nice solid feel, not the flimsy fabric kind. I do it at the kitchen table while dinner simmers. The bird subject is rendered with more detail than I expected. I keep one in the car and one in the house. Wish it came in a larger size option. Would order again despite the small issues.

Got this for my mom and she uses it every single day. Really pleased with how it turned out. Slightly snug for my oversized sunglasses. Happy with it, with a few caveats.

  10. Xavier S. (verified owner) –

I made one for my sunglasses and now I want one for every pair. The drills are bright and consistent in size, no weird off-color batches. The interior could use a bit more padding. Keeps my readers from getting scratched in my purse. I’d recommend it with that one note.

Wasn’t sure what to expect, but I’m very happy with it. Everything I needed was in the box – pen, wax, tray and tweezers. The interior could use a bit more padding. I work on it while listening to an audiobook and the time just disappears. Minor things, but I’d still buy it again.

  12. Wayne Wilson (verified owner) –

These make really thoughtful little gifts. The loop holds my glasses securely without stretching out. No missing colors and nothing short in the high-use shades. Nice to have a hobby that leaves you calmer than you started. One bead was slightly off-colour from the rest. My glasses finally have a proper home. A solid purchase with a couple of notes.
