Why This Rainbow Eyeglass Case Earns Its Place in the Bag

The Rainbow composition starts from a wide arc sweeping across the composition in colour bands, with soft cloud forms at each end and light breaking through and settles on six graded colour bands from red through to violet against pale cloud grey. What you get is a bright and optimistic piece with no wasted detail. Rainbow motifs suit rooms that want colour without a specific theme, and the soft bands keep it from looking like a flag. It fits a routine that involves a commute and a pair of glasses that has to survive it. Designed for children's rooms and play areas, it holds up as decor rather than as something you finish and put in a drawer. Reference Q54. Rainbow motifs suit rooms that want colour without a specific theme, and the soft bands keep it from looking like a flag.

rainbow motifs suit rooms that want colour without a specific theme, and the soft bands keep it from looking like a flag. In practice that means the finished piece sits comfortably in children's rooms and play areas, where the bright character of the palette does the decorating for you.

DOTZSO assembles these kits with a rigid body and a printed panel, so the finished case holds its shape. The kit includes the printed case panel, DOTZSO resin drills, a sorting tray, a comfort-grip applicator pen, a wax caddy and pictorial steps.

A case stays in use if it handles daily carry. That is what the sealed panel and seated drills are for.

Drilling the panel in full is what gives the case its weight and finish.

What’s in the Box

  • 1 × printed case panel
  • 1 × rigid case body / frame
  • DOTZSO signature resin drills, sorted by colour (with extra drills included)
  • Diamond painting tray
  • Comfort-grip applicator pen
  • Wax caddy
  • Pictorial step-by-step instructions

How to Make It

  1. Lay the printed case panel flat and let it settle before starting.
  2. Find the legend strip and match the first symbol to its drill colour.
  3. Press the pen tip into the wax caddy, then touch it to a drill – the drill lifts and stays on the tip.
  4. Set the drill onto the matching printed symbol and press lightly. Work one section at a time rather than across the whole panel.
  5. Continue until the panel is covered, then press the finished surface flat with a book for an hour to seat every drill.
  6. Seal the surface and fit the panel into the case frame once the drills are fully seated.

Go through it one section at a time, then let the finished case earn its keep.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the eyeglass case kit shipped whole, or in parts to assemble yourself?

Yes. The Rainbow eyeglass case kit ships complete with the case body and frame shown in the product images, plus the DOTZSO resin drills, tray, applicator pen, wax caddy and pictorial instructions. Nothing else needs sourcing. Reference Q54.

Is the Rainbow surface tough enough for daily contact?

Once the drills are seated and the surface is sealed, the Rainbow design holds under normal use. The rigid shell is what protects the drills in a bag, and the sealing step is the single biggest factor in how long the finish lasts. Sealing is the step that decides the Rainbow finish’s lifespan.

What should I avoid when caring for the Rainbow design?

Wipe with a damp cloth and dry immediately. Do not submerge it or put it through a dishwasher — the adhesive layer under the drills is not built for a soak. For the Rainbow palette, six graded colour bands from red through to violet against pale cloud grey tones show dust less than pale grounds, so a light pass is usually enough. A quick wipe is normally all the Rainbow piece needs.

Does the Rainbow design use drills throughout?

The panel is drilled across the whole face, so the finished case has complete coverage. The Rainbow artwork is drawn so that a wide arc sweeping across the composition in colour bands reads clearly at any distance. The Rainbow artwork is fully drilled rather than partly printed.

Is the Rainbow design a slow project?

Roughly one to two evenings for most people, depending on the pattern density. The Rainbow design is bright and optimistic, which tends to make it easier to work in short sessions. The Rainbow design is paced, not rushed.

How much prior knowledge does the Rainbow design need?

Yes. The symbol key is printed directly on the case panel and the pictorial instructions walk through the whole process, so no prior diamond painting experience is needed. The Rainbow layout is bright and optimistic, which helps on a first attempt. The kit is complete on delivery.

I’ve done a handful of these now and this one is up there with the best. Good weight to the materials, it doesn’t feel cheap. The wax ran out before I finished and I had to use my own. I keep one in the car and one in the house. Overall a good experience.

I don’t usually leave reviews but this one deserved it. It’s small enough to toss in a tote without adding bulk. I’ve been doing it in the evenings with my partner, we take turns on sections. A magnetic closure would have been nicer than the snap. Still worth it overall.

  3. Joanne Harrington (verified owner) –

I made one for my sunglasses and now I want one for every pair. Inside is roomier than I thought, fits my larger sunglasses fine. The wax ran out before I finished and I had to use my own. Practical and pretty, which is rare in a craft. Overall happy, just a few small things.

  4. Malik Conley (verified owner) –

My third kit from this shop and still really pleased. The colors read clearly against both my glasses frames. Keeps my hands busy during long flights and hotel evenings. The closure is stiff for the first few days. Practical and pretty, which is rare in a craft. Good kit — the notes above are minor.

  5. PorchLightProjects (verified owner) –

Got this for my purse so my glasses stop floating around loose. Gave these as stocking stuffers and they were a hit. The interior could use a bit more padding. Minor things, but I’d still buy it again.

  6. April Salinas –

Bought two so I could keep one and gift one. The adhesive held well across several weeks of working on it. Nice mindful project – you can’t think about much else while you’re placing drills. Some colors came with barely any extras, though I didn’t run out. Minor gripes aside, I’d buy it again.

  7. Kristine Humphries –

These were a small, easy project and a genuinely useful one. The shape holds up well, hasn’t gotten squashed. I take it on the porch in the evenings when the weather is nice. It arrives with quite a bit of packaging for the size. Small issues, but nothing that would stop me ordering again.

  8. Ezekiel Glass (verified owner) –

I made one for my sunglasses and now I want one for every pair. The interior lining is soft, no scratches on my lenses. A little snug for oversized frames. I’ve stopped patting my pockets looking for my glasses. Still glad I ordered it overall.

Honestly better quality than I expected for the price. Glue coverage was even, no dry patches anywhere. The interior could use a bit more padding. The pace of it suits me — no pressure, no deadline. Would recommend it with those notes.

  11. Lucinda Ferris –

Small enough to finish in one sitting, which I loved. My glasses are finally where I can find them. The adhesive picked up lint over the days I worked on it. Solid overall, just a couple of nitpicks.

I’ve had my eye on this design since last season. I use it every day for my reading glasses. I wish the instructions went into a bit more detail for a first-timer. Still worth it overall.

My sister got me into these and this is my latest one. Roomy inside, my larger sunglasses fit fine. It’s a good way to slow down at the end of the day. Instructions were minimal, though it’s easy enough to figure out. Worth it despite the small things.

Ordered this as a small pick-me-up and it worked. The case is rigid enough to trust in a bag. It became my end-of-day wind-down. The finished piece gets compliments from everyone who visits. Wish it came in a larger size option. Good enough that I’d buy another.

Bought two so I could keep one and gift one. My glasses don’t rattle around inside. A little snug for oversized frames. It became my end-of-day wind-down. It fits perfectly with the decor in in my reading nook. A solid purchase with a couple of notes.

  16. Deanna Morrison (verified owner) –

I ordered these after losing my glasses behind the couch for the tenth time. The adhesive held firmly without any lifting at the edges. There were extra drills left over in every color when I finished. Slightly snug for my oversized sunglasses. I settled into a rhythm after the first section. Made one for my mother and she carries it everywhere. I’d order again, just knowing what to expect.

  17. Rudolph Vaughn (verified owner) –

Got this for my mom and she uses it every single day. Nice solid feel, not the flimsy fabric kind. It’s my go-to when I need a quiet evening. A magnetic closure would be nicer than the snap. Happy enough that I’d buy another.

  18. LoneStarLoops (verified owner) –

These are such a small project that I finished one in an evening. The case is rigid enough to trust in a bag. Finish is even and the whole thing looks tidy once you’re done. I worked on it a little each evening and it added up quickly. Finished piece looks even better in person than in the listing photos. A little snug for oversized frames. I’d recommend it with that one note.

  19. Lorene Shea –

Finished it in one evening and it turned out adorable. The closure snaps shut properly and hasn’t come loose. The seam is visible up close. My sister asked me to make her two more. Happy enough that I’d buy another.

Got this for my mom and she uses it every single day. It keeps its shape even when empty. The interior could use more padding. I like having something mindful to do that doesn’t need a screen. Worth it, just go in with the right expectations.

  25. Colin Terrell (verified owner) –

I saw this on the shop page and couldn’t talk myself out of it. Really neat stitching where the two sides join. No missing colors and nothing short in the high-use shades. The interior could use more padding. It’s a lovely quiet hobby, and I like having something to show for it at the end. Gave one to my mom for Mother’s Day and she carries it everywhere. Still a good kit overall.
