Why This Mandala Tray Earns Its Place on the Table

This piece takes a symmetrical mandala built in concentric rings, each band moving from geometric spokes to fine petal work toward the outer edge as its subject, rendered in balanced jewel tones on a deep ground so the symmetry stays legible. The mood settles at focused and meditative, which is what keeps it easy to live with. Mandala work is chosen as much for the doing as the result — the symmetry turns placement into a ritual. It fits a kitchen with an open shelf and a reason to fill it. Designed for meditation corners and home studios, it holds up as decor rather than as something you finish and put in a drawer. Reference CP07-2. Working a mandala ring by ring is the most repetitive version of this craft, and the repetition is the point That is the through-line of the whole design.

mandala work is chosen as much for the doing as the result — the symmetry turns placement into a ritual. Given a spot in meditation corners and home studios, the focused colouring settles the whole corner.

With DOTZSO, the kit contents and the pacing are set so the whole thing stays enjoyable. Packed with the tray are DOTZSO resin drills, a sorting tray, a comfort-grip applicator pen, a wax caddy and step-by-step pictorial guidance.

Built to be used rather than displayed, the tray pairs a solid body with a fully seated and sealed drill face.

Edge-to-edge coverage is what makes the tray read as a finished piece of homeware.

What’s in the Box

  • 1 × printed wooden tray with cut-in handles
  • DOTZSO signature resin drills, sorted by colour (with extra drills included)
  • Diamond painting tray
  • Comfort-grip applicator pen
  • Wax caddy
  • Pictorial step-by-step instructions

How to Make It

  1. Lay the printed tray face flat and let it settle before starting.
  2. Find the legend strip and match the first symbol to its drill colour.
  3. Press the pen tip into the wax caddy, then touch it to a drill – the drill lifts and stays on the tip.
  4. Set the drill onto the matching printed symbol and press lightly. Work one colour block at a time rather than across the whole tray.
  5. Continue until the face is covered, then press the finished surface flat with a book for an hour to seat every drill.
  6. Seal the surface fully before the tray goes into service, or the drills will lift under a plate.

Take the making at an easy pace, then put the finished tray to work rather than away.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does this wooden tray kit contain the full Mandala project?

Yes. The Mandala wooden tray kit ships complete with the wooden tray and cut-in handles; you drill the printed face and then the tray goes into service, plus the DOTZSO resin drills, tray, applicator pen, wax caddy and pictorial instructions. Nothing else needs sourcing. Reference CP07-2.

Will the Mandala surface keep its finish with regular contact?

Once the drills are seated and the surface is sealed, the Mandala design holds under normal use. The surface is sealed, so it handles mugs and plates in normal use. Very hot pans straight from the hob are another matter — use a trivet, and the sealing step is the single biggest factor in how long the finish lasts. Normal wear leaves the Mandala surface unaffected.

How do I maintain the Mandala wooden tray kit long term?

Wipe with a damp cloth and dry immediately. Do not submerge it or put it through a dishwasher — the adhesive layer under the drills is not built for a soak. For the Mandala palette, balanced jewel tones on a deep ground so the symmetry stays legible tones show dust less than pale grounds, so a light pass is usually enough. The Mandala surface asks for very little upkeep.

Is the Mandala surface fully worked, or is it a partial-drill piece?

The face is drilled across the whole surface, so the finished tray has complete coverage without bare wood showing. The Mandala artwork is drawn so that a symmetrical mandala built in concentric rings reads clearly at any distance. That applies across the whole Mandala face.

How long does the Mandala design typically take?

Plan for a few sessions rather than one. Working a single colour block at a time is faster than moving across the tray at random. The Mandala design is focused and meditative, which tends to make it easier to work in short sessions. The Mandala pattern rewards steady work rather than rushing.

What is the smallest Mandala size?

The range covers 7.8 × 11.8 in, 9.8 × 13.8 in and 12.2 × 16.1 in, so there is a format for a bedside table or a full dinner service. This listing is the 12.2×16.1 in format. Reference CP07-2.

Finished it over a weekend and it looks great on the ottoman. No missing colors and no shortage on the ones used most. The wood arrived with one small scuff on the side. Holds two mugs and a plate easily. I’d recommend it with that one note.

The wood base is much sturdier than I expected. Handles are sturdy, I can carry a full mug without worrying. The repetitive motion is oddly satisfying, one of those simple pleasures. You’ll want to seal it yourself if you’re putting wet glasses on it. Still worth it overall.

This arrived in perfect condition, nothing bent or spilled. Holds two mugs and a plate easily. The packaging was a little plain for a gift. I’d order again, just knowing what to expect.

  4. Walter Fritz –

Ordered two so my sister and I could work on them side by side. Each color was packed generously, I had plenty to spare. I got through it faster than I thought I would. Really nice piece to have out when people come over. One small scuff on the wood when it arrived. Overall a good experience.

Added this to my cart at the last minute and I’m glad I did. My mother-in-law displays hers proudly. The corners collect a little dust that’s fiddly to reach. I’d recommend it with that one note.

  6. Sung Deaton (verified owner) –

Gave one to my in-laws and they display it proudly. The adhesive held well across several weeks of working on it. You’ll want to seal it yourself if you’ll set wet glasses on it. Keeps my hands busy during long flights and hotel evenings. I use it for serving when we have people over. Still worth it overall.

The wood base is much sturdier than I expected. The drills are set evenly across the whole surface. The sparkle on these drills is genuinely nice. I do this instead of scrolling and feel much better for it. Only one finish is available, which is limiting. Makes a lovely breakfast-in-bed tray. Minor gripes aside, I’d buy it again.

  8. Daniela Maguire (verified owner) –

The handles make it feel like real serveware, not just a craft. The canvas print is sharp and the symbols are legible. Extra drills were included for every color, which I appreciated. Really calming, repetitive work, and satisfying when a section is finished. It holds two mugs and a plate with room to spare. I wish it came pre-sealed. Small issues, but nothing that would stop me ordering again.

  9. Tom Lucas (verified owner) –

This one took a bit more time and was worth it. The mandala-style palette works really well with the design. Surface is flat and level, glasses don’t wobble on it. I worked through this over a few weeks of evenings and loved it. The adhesive picked up lint over the days I worked on it. It sits by the door catching keys and mail. Still worth it overall.

  10. Ivan Moreno (verified owner) –

This one caught my eye and I’m glad it did. Wood feels solid, much better than the thin pressed board I’ve seen. It looks beautiful with a candle and a book on it. The wax ran low before I finished the last section. Good enough that I’d buy another.

Was looking for something to do with my hands in the evenings. It’s on the coffee table and gets used every morning. Instructions were minimal, though it’s easy enough to figure out. Worth buying, just plan for those small quirks.

I use mine for morning coffee and it’s held up well. Makes a lovely breakfast-in-bed tray. Wish it came with a protective finish already applied. Still a solid purchase.

  13. Kyle Schmidt –

Not my first diamond painting, but one of my favorites. Nice finish on the wood, not rough or unfinished. Everything I needed was in the box – pen, wax, tray and tweezers. It’s become my evening ritual – an hour of this and I feel settled. It’s on our ottoman and gets used for coffee every morning. One small scuff on the wood when it arrived. Minor quibbles aside, I’d buy it again.

  14. Lester Dean (verified owner) –

Came across this while looking for craft ideas and bought it that day. The drills are uniform and sit flat with no gaps. Would make a really nice gift, and it arrives boxed nicely. The packaging arrived a little dented. The mandala pattern is what made me choose this one. Would still recommend it.

  15. Ashley Wilcox (verified owner) –

I’ve wanted one of these trays for ages and finally made one. Nice finish on the wood, not rough or unfinished. Each color was packed generously, I had plenty to spare. I brought it on a weekend trip and finished most of it there. The mandala motif makes it feel special. The handles are a bit narrow for larger hands. It looks beautiful with a candle and a book on it. Good kit overall, just a couple of small things.

  16. Stacey Wilkinson (verified owner) –

Finished it over a weekend and it looks great on the ottoman. Colors match the listing photo really closely. Perfect for a cozy evening in when you want to keep your hands busy. The mandala colors are richer than the photos show. The canvas had a faint mark from the printing on one edge. Would still recommend it.

  17. Viola Valencia (verified owner) –

Gave one to my in-laws and they display it proudly. The wax and pen that came with it worked fine right out of the box. The colors are true to the listing photos. Perfect for winding down before bed, much better than watching another show. A few bags weren’t labeled as clearly as the rest. It’s become the anchor of the nightstand. Happy with it despite the small stuff.

  18. Heather Evans (verified owner) –

The wood base is much sturdier than I expected. The legend was easy to follow and matched the canvas printing. The drills came in labeled bags, which made sorting painless. I keep it by my chair and pick it up whenever I have a few minutes. The mandala-style artwork comes together beautifully as you work. The drilled panel sits slightly proud of the rim. Worth the time it took. A solid purchase with a couple of notes.

  19. Angela Cunningham (verified owner) –

This is a genuinely nice kit for the money. The drills are uniform and sit flat with no gaps. Great way to slow down at the end of a busy day. Took a bit longer to arrive than I expected. Made one for my mother-in-law and she was delighted. Worth it despite the small things.

  20. Merrill Mann (verified owner) –

I’ve been doing these for about a year and this is a solid kit. The proportions work well for a dresser or a vanity. The packaging kept everything organized and undamaged. The sorting tray is shallow, drills spill out if you’re not careful. I worked on this during my lunch breaks and it made the days feel better. It’s the sort of object that makes a room feel more finished. Overall a good experience.

This tray kit felt like a real step up from the flat canvases. The drill design sits flush with the tray surface. Took me a while to get the hang of the multi-placer tip. It’s my screen-free hour in the evening. Good kit overall, just a couple of small things.

Bought it as a housewarming gift and it was a hit. Glue coverage was even, no dry patches anywhere. Genuinely peaceful to work on one row at a time. Looks beautiful on the coffee table with a candle on it. The tray included is on the small side. The mandala-style palette works really well with the design. Small issues, but nothing that would stop me ordering again.

Heavier and nicer in person than it looked online. The mandala-style colors are richer than the photos show. Handles are a bit narrow for larger hands. The wood finish is smooth and looks properly done. It sits on the entry table and catches keys and mail. Overall a good experience.

Ordered this as a gift for a friend who loves a tidy house. There were extra drills left over in every color when I finished. The corners collect a little dust that’s fiddly to reach. It became my end-of-day wind-down. Overall happy, just a few small things.
