Cat wooden tray kit by DOTZSO — a cat settled in profile with tail wrapped forward in warm greys and soft browns. The fur direction changes at the shoulder and haunch, and following that line is what makes the finish read as animal rather than pattern. It suits a home where the counter objects have been chosen on purpose. No separate purchases required — the box has the printed wooden tray, DOTZSO resin drills, tray, pen, wax and instructions.

Why This Cat Tray Earns Its Place on the Table

Here the Cat pattern is a cat settled in profile with tail wrapped forward, fur rendered in overlapping short strokes across the flank and chest, worked through warm greys and soft browns with bright eye highlights against a tonal background. The finished character is calm and companionable — deliberate, not accidental. Cat portraits sell because the owner already has a relationship with the subject — the canvas just holds it. It suits a home where the counter objects have been chosen on purpose. Designed for bedrooms and home offices, it holds up as decor rather than as something you finish and put in a drawer. Reference CP17-2. cat portraits sell because the owner already has a relationship with the subject — the canvas just holds it. That is the part that matters most here.

cat portraits sell because the owner already has a relationship with the subject — the canvas just holds it. Kept in bedrooms and home offices, it earns its place by staying quiet while the calm palette carries the interest.

Everything DOTZSO supplies here is aimed at a tray sturdy enough for regular service. What is in the box: the printed wooden tray, DOTZSO resin drills, a sorting tray, a comfort-grip applicator pen, a wax caddy and a pictorial instruction sheet.

A tray stays out on the counter if it can take a hot mug. That is what the sealed surface and solid body are for.

Coverage runs across the whole tray face, so nothing is left printed-only.

What’s in the Box

  • 1 × printed wooden tray with cut-in handles
  • DOTZSO signature resin drills, sorted by colour (with extra drills included)
  • Diamond painting tray
  • Comfort-grip applicator pen
  • Wax caddy
  • Pictorial step-by-step instructions

How to Make It

  1. Lay the printed tray face flat and let it settle before starting.
  2. Find the legend strip and match the first symbol to its drill colour.
  3. Press the pen tip into the wax caddy, then touch it to a drill – the drill lifts and stays on the tip.
  4. Set the drill onto the matching printed symbol and press lightly. Work one colour block at a time rather than across the whole tray.
  5. Continue until the face is covered, then press the finished surface flat with a book for an hour to seat every drill.
  6. Seal the surface fully before the tray goes into service, or the drills will lift under a plate.

Complete it over a few sessions, then let the tray settle into everyday use.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the Cat wooden tray kit a complete set for the money?

Yes. The Cat wooden tray kit ships complete with the wooden tray and cut-in handles; you drill the printed face and then the tray goes into service, plus the DOTZSO resin drills, tray, applicator pen, wax caddy and pictorial instructions. Nothing else needs sourcing. Reference CP17-2.

How well does the Cat design survive handling?

Once the drills are seated and the surface is sealed, the Cat design holds under normal use. The surface is sealed, so it handles mugs and plates in normal use. Very hot pans straight from the hob are another matter — use a trivet, and the sealing step is the single biggest factor in how long the finish lasts. Sealing properly is the whole of the maintenance story here.

What should I avoid when caring for the Cat design?

Wipe with a damp cloth and dry immediately. Do not submerge it or put it through a dishwasher — the adhesive layer under the drills is not built for a soak. For the Cat palette, warm greys and soft browns tones show dust less than pale grounds, so a light pass is usually enough. A quick wipe is normally all the Cat piece needs.

How much of the Cat design is covered in drills?

The face is drilled across the whole surface, so the finished tray has complete coverage without bare wood showing. The Cat artwork is drawn so that a cat settled in profile with tail wrapped forward reads clearly at any distance. The Cat piece has complete drill coverage.

Will the Cat wooden tray kit take more than one session?

Plan for a few sessions rather than one. Working a single colour block at a time is faster than moving across the tray at random. The Cat design is calm and companionable, which tends to make it easier to work in short sessions. The Cat design is paced, not rushed.

Which Cat size is best for display?

The range covers 7.8 × 11.8 in, 9.8 × 13.8 in and 12.2 × 16.1 in, so there is a format for a bedside table or a full dinner service. This listing is the 12.2×16.1 in format. Reference CP17-2.

I’ve wanted one of these trays for ages and finally made one. Handles make it easy to carry from the kitchen to the couch. The cat design is even prettier in person than in the photos. I set it up next to the window and do a few rows whenever the light is good. I keep remotes and coasters on mine when it’s not in use. You’ll want to seal it yourself if you’re putting wet glasses on it. I’d recommend it with that one note.

  2. John J. (verified owner) –

I’ve been doing these for about a year and this is a solid kit. The drilled panel is recessed so it’s protected from spills. The drill shapes were clean, not many chipped or stuck-together pieces. Nice mindful project – you can’t think about much else while you’re placing drills. It turned into something I actually want to display, not shove in a drawer. Not something I’d put in the dishwasher or soak, obviously. The cat design is even prettier in person than in the photos. Still worth it overall.

  3. Lily T. (verified owner) –

Bought it as a starter kit for myself and it worked out great. The drills came in labeled bags, which made sorting painless. The wood arrived with one small scuff on the side. Really relaxing to do in the evening instead of scrolling. I’d recommend it with that one note.

  4. Nathan C. (verified owner) –

Came quickly and was packaged really well. Handles are cut well and comfortable to actually carry. Makes a lovely breakfast-in-bed tray. The wood arrived with one small scuff on the side. Worth buying, just plan for those small quirks.

  5. MidwestMakes (verified owner) –

The wood base is much sturdier than I expected. Packaging was tidy and nothing had spilled in transit. Not something I’d put in the dishwasher or soak, obviously. I work on it while listening to an audiobook and the time just disappears. I use it for serving when we have guests and it always gets noticed. Minor things, but I’d still buy it again.

  6. Kathleen F. (verified owner) –

This arrived in perfect condition, nothing bent or spilled. The drills sit nice and flush, no gaps showing the surface underneath. The wax ran out before I finished and I had to use my own. Looks beautiful on the coffee table with a candle on it. Happy with it, with a few caveats.

  7. Laurel Pena –

Something about a functional project makes it more satisfying. The sparkle on these drills is genuinely nice. Something about placing the drills is very settling. It holds two mugs and a plate with room to spare. Some colors had very few spare drills. I chose this one for the kitty look. Would order again despite the small issues.

  8. Ida Nichols (verified owner) –

Exactly what the listing described, no surprises. The base is flat and doesn’t rock on the table. You’ll want to seal it yourself if you’ll set wet glasses on it. The kitty artwork comes together beautifully as you work. The overall look is clean and cohesive. Minor gripes aside, I’d buy it again.

  9. Tim Harper (verified owner) –

Ordered two of these and gave one away as a gift. The tray has a proper raised rim, so nothing rolls off. Perfect for winding down before bed, much better than watching another show. The finished piece looks far more expensive than the kit cost. Shipping took a few days longer than I expected. Would order again despite the small issues.

  10. HarvestHobbies (verified owner) –

Bought it for a rainy weekend and it was exactly what I needed. Handles are cut well and comfortable to actually carry. One small scuff on the wood when it arrived. It’s the sort of object that makes a room feel more finished. Solid overall, just a couple of nitpicks.

  11. Wyatt Ramos (verified owner) –

Bought this to hold the remotes and it’s a huge improvement. Surface is flat and level, glasses don’t wobble on it. I got through it faster than I thought I would. The finished piece looks far better than I expected. It needed a wipe down before the first use. Overall a good experience.

  12. Rosetta Carlson (verified owner) –

I ordered this for my dresser and it’s become a centerpiece. It’s become a fixture in the living room. The handles are a bit narrow for larger hands. Still a good kit overall.

Been eyeing this one for a while and finally pulled the trigger. The colors work together better than I expected. It’s slightly heavier than I expected. Good kit — the notes above are minor.

Bought this as a birthday present to myself. The rim is deep enough to actually hold things. Would make a really nice gift, and it arrives boxed nicely. The drilled panel sits slightly proud of the rim. Would buy again; the notes are minor.

I picked this up for the entryway table and it’s perfect there. The surface is flat and level, glasses don’t wobble. I worked through this over a few weeks of evenings and loved it. The wax ran out before I finished and I had to use my own. It turned out better than I pictured. Still glad I ordered it overall.

  17. Elmer Reyes (verified owner) –

Not my first diamond painting, but one of my favorites. I can carry a full mug without worrying about the handles. It’s a good way to slow down at the end of the day. Some colors came with barely any extras, though I didn’t run out. Happy with it, with one small caveat.

The wood base makes this feel like real decor. The surface is flat and level, glasses don’t wobble. Not something to soak or put in the dishwasher. Quiet Sunday mornings with this and a coffee is my favorite part of the week. I’m really proud of how it turned out. Worth it despite the small things.

So glad I added this one to my cart. The kitty detail is impressive up close. Gave it as a housewarming gift and it was the favorite present. I wish it came pre-sealed. I’d recommend it with that one note.

Picked this up for our coffee table and it ties the room together. The chart was large enough to read without squinting. I did most of it on weekend mornings with coffee. The handles are a bit narrow for larger hands. Would still recommend it.

The tray format is such a nice change of pace. Colors match the listing photo really closely. You’ll want to seal it yourself if you’re putting wet glasses on it. I brought it on a week at the lake and finished most of it there. Definitely ordering more as gifts. Minor things, but I’d still buy it again.

This was a fun change of pace from the usual canvas kits. The colors are true to the listing photos. I’ve been doing it in the evenings with my partner, we take turns on sections. Not something to soak or put in the dishwasher. The handles make it genuinely practical, not just decorative. Still a solid purchase.

Made this for our coffee table and get compliments on it constantly. The drills arrived clean, not stuck together in clumps. Everything was bagged and labeled, so setup took five minutes. Quiet Sunday mornings with this and a coffee is my favorite part of the week. You’ll want to seal it yourself if you’ll set wet glasses on it. It looks like something from a home decor shop. Would order again despite the small issues.
