Why This Mandala Tray Earns Its Place on the Table

This Mandala piece is about a symmetrical mandala built in concentric rings, each band moving from geometric spokes to fine petal work toward the outer edge, and it is finished in balanced jewel tones on a deep ground so the symmetry stays legible. Expect focused and meditative, not spectacle. Mandala work is chosen as much for the doing as the result — the symmetry turns placement into a ritual. It is made for anyone who serves breakfast in bed and wants the tray to be worth looking at. Designed for meditation corners and home studios, it holds up as decor rather than as something you finish and put in a drawer. Reference CP05-2. Mandala work is chosen as much for the doing as the result — the symmetry turns placement into a ritual Which is the harder half of the job, and it is done here.

mandala work is chosen as much for the doing as the result — the symmetry turns placement into a ritual. It slots into meditation corners and home studios because the focused palette is doing the talking.

Every DOTZSO wooden tray kit is built for people who want the making to be restful and the finished tray to be used. Inside the box you get a printed wooden tray with cut-in handles, DOTZSO resin drills, a sorting tray, a comfort-grip applicator pen, a wax caddy and pictorial instructions.

The tray body is the part that matters. The printed surface is sealed after the drills are seated, so the tray takes hot mugs and plates without marking.

The tray face is drilled in full, so the pattern reads completely across the base.

What’s in the Box

  • 1 × printed wooden tray with cut-in handles
  • DOTZSO signature resin drills, sorted by colour (with extra drills included)
  • Diamond painting tray
  • Comfort-grip applicator pen
  • Wax caddy
  • Pictorial step-by-step instructions

How to Make It

  1. Lay the printed tray face flat and let it settle before starting.
  2. Find the legend strip and match the first symbol to its drill colour.
  3. Press the pen tip into the wax caddy, then touch it to a drill – the drill lifts and stays on the tip.
  4. Set the drill onto the matching printed symbol and press lightly. Work one colour block at a time rather than across the whole tray.
  5. Continue until the face is covered, then press the finished surface flat with a book for an hour to seat every drill.
  6. Seal the surface fully before the tray goes into service, or the drills will lift under a plate.

Finish it over a few evenings, then put the tray straight to work — it is designed for daily service, not shelf duty.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is anything in the wooden tray kit sold separately?

Yes. The Mandala wooden tray kit ships complete with the wooden tray and cut-in handles; you drill the printed face and then the tray goes into service, plus the DOTZSO resin drills, tray, applicator pen, wax caddy and pictorial instructions. Nothing else needs sourcing. Reference CP05-2.

Is the Mandala surface tough enough for daily contact?

Once the drills are seated and the surface is sealed, the Mandala design holds under normal use. The surface is sealed, so it handles mugs and plates in normal use. Very hot pans straight from the hob are another matter — use a trivet, and the sealing step is the single biggest factor in how long the finish lasts. The Mandala surface tolerates being picked up and moved.

Does the Mandala wooden tray kit need special care?

Wipe with a damp cloth and dry immediately. Do not submerge it or put it through a dishwasher — the adhesive layer under the drills is not built for a soak. For the Mandala palette, balanced jewel tones on a deep ground so the symmetry stays legible tones show dust less than pale grounds, so a light pass is usually enough. A microfibre cloth works well on the Mandala surface.

Does the Mandala design rely on printed detail anywhere?

The face is drilled across the whole surface, so the finished tray has complete coverage without bare wood showing. The Mandala artwork is drawn so that a symmetrical mandala built in concentric rings reads clearly at any distance. The Mandala surface is worked as one continuous piece.

What is the pace like on the Mandala wooden tray kit?

Plan for a few sessions rather than one. Working a single colour block at a time is faster than moving across the tray at random. The Mandala design is focused and meditative, which tends to make it easier to work in short sessions. The Mandala pattern is easy to work in short bursts.

What sizes does the Mandala wooden tray kit come in?

The range covers 7.8 × 11.8 in, 9.8 × 13.8 in and 12.2 × 16.1 in, so there is a format for a bedside table or a full dinner service. This listing is the 12.2×16.1 in format. Reference CP05-2.

I picked this up on a whim and ended up really enjoying it. Looks beautiful on the coffee table with a candle on it. The packaging was a little crushed on one corner. Worth buying, just plan for those small quirks.

Finished it over a weekend and it looks great on the ottoman. Size is right for two mugs and a small plate. I use it for serving when we have guests and it always gets noticed. The adhesive picked up a bit of dust while I was working over several days. Still worth it overall.

So glad I added this one to my cart. The drills came in labeled bags, which made sorting painless. Not something I’d put in the dishwasher or soak, obviously. It’s a lovely quiet hobby, and I like having something to show for it at the end. Would order again despite the small issues.

  4. Gene Ewing (verified owner) –

This was a useful project that also happens to be pretty. The wood base has a nice weight to it, feels like real serveware. It’s the kind of hobby that makes an evening feel well spent. Took a bit longer to arrive than I expected. The finished piece genuinely surprised me. The mandala motif makes it feel special. I’d recommend it with that one note.

  5. Charlotte Horton –

I’ve had my eye on this design since last season. The base is flat and doesn’t rock on the table. It’s a good way to slow down at the end of the day. The rim could be a touch deeper. The mandala pattern is what made me choose this one. It looks lovely on the dresser. Small issues, but nothing that would stop me ordering again.

  6. Dean Coles (verified owner) –

I keep coming back to this shop because the quality is consistent. It’s on the bathroom counter and looks intentional. The drilled panel sits slightly proud of the rim. Would still recommend it.

  7. Ivy Benson (verified owner) –

Bought it as a starter kit for myself and it worked out great. Each color was in its own pouch, clearly numbered. A really enjoyable way to pass a rainy afternoon. The handles are a bit narrow for larger hands. The handles make it genuinely practical, not just decorative. Worth it, just go in with the right expectations.

Bought it as a starter kit for myself and it worked out great. Nice finish on the wood, not rough or unfinished. The wood arrived with one small scuff on the side. Nice to have something that gets me off my phone for a while. Overall a good experience.

  9. Priya V. (verified owner) –

This tray kit felt like a real step up from the flat canvases. The pen and wax worked fine, I didn’t need to dig out my own tools. Some colors came with barely any extras, though I didn’t run out. Did most of it over a long weekend and it was such a pleasant way to pass the time. Looks beautiful on the coffee table with a candle on it. Happy with it, with a few caveats.

The handles make it feel like real serveware, not just a craft. It sits by the door catching keys and mail. The handles are a bit narrow for larger hands. Solid overall, just a couple of nitpicks.

  11. Steve Kirby (verified owner) –

Was looking for something to do with my hands in the evenings. I can carry a full mug without worrying about the handles. A few drills had rough edges that needed picking off. It’s become the quiet part of my day that I look forward to. Would order again despite the small issues.

  12. Rodney Spencer (verified owner) –

Not my first diamond painting, but one of my favorites. Looks beautiful on the coffee table with a candle on it. Only small gripe is that a few drills had little burrs on them. Would order again despite the small issues.

  13. Alyssa T. (verified owner) –

Finished it over a weekend and it looks great on the ottoman. Surface is flat and level, glasses don’t wobble on it. I worked on this during my lunch breaks and it made the days feel better. I’ve had three people ask me where I bought it. The drilled panel sits slightly proud of the rim. Worth buying, just plan for those small quirks.

I don’t usually leave reviews but this one deserved it. Surface is flat and level, glasses don’t wobble on it. I’ve been doing it in the evenings with my partner, we take turns on sections. Took a bit longer to arrive than I expected. Very pleased with how it came together. Good kit overall, just a couple of small things.

  15. Rosalind Watkins (verified owner) –

This showed up faster than I expected and I started it the same night. The base is flat and doesn’t rock on the table. I wish it came pre-sealed. Really calming, repetitive work, and satisfying when a section is finished. Would order again despite the small issues.

  16. Wyatt Martin (verified owner) –

Picked this up to try something different and really enjoyed it. The wax and pen that came with it worked fine right out of the box. One small scuff on the wood when it arrived. It’s a slow, quiet hobby and I like that about it. Minor things, but I’d still buy it again.

  17. Constance Thompson (verified owner) –

Gave one to my in-laws and they display it proudly. The interior surface is smooth and easy to wipe down. I went with the mandala-style version and the colors are lovely. I did most of it over a lazy weekend and enjoyed every minute. Only small gripe is that a few drills had little burrs on them. Great gift for anyone who likes hosting. A solid purchase with a couple of notes.

  18. Isabela Coleman (verified owner) –

The wood base makes this feel like real decor. Solid wood, much better than the pressed board versions. The printed chart could have been a touch larger. I do this on the porch in the summer and it’s lovely. Minor quibbles aside, I’d buy it again.

  19. Debbie Brooks (verified owner) –

This was a fun change of pace from the usual canvas kits. It sits on the entry table and catches keys and mail. Wish it came with a protective finish already applied. Still a solid purchase.

  20. Jackie Villarreal (verified owner) –

Bought it for the guest room and it looks lovely there. Colors match the listing photo really closely. The drill shapes were clean, not many chipped or stuck-together pieces. It’s the kind of task that quiets a busy mind. You’ll want to seal it yourself if you’re putting wet glasses on it. It looks like a piece of decor, not a storage solution. Would buy again; the notes are minor.

Made this for our coffee table and get compliments on it constantly. The chart was large enough to read without squinting. I use it for serving when we have people over. The adhesive picked up lint over the days I worked on it. Overall happy, just a few small things.

  22. Mavis Marks (verified owner) –

Made one for my sister and now she wants the kit too. It’s the kind of thing guests notice right away. It’s a lovely take on a mandala design. The wood arrived with one small scuff on the side. Happy with it, with a few caveats.
