Why This Succulent Tray Earns Its Place on the Table

The subject here is a rosette succulent seen from above, leaves layered in tightening spiral rows from the outer skirt to a closed centre, set in muted sage and dusty jade with rose-tipped edges against a soft grey ground. Rather than competing for attention, the piece holds a calm and botanical tone. Succulent motifs suit plant-lovers who want the form without the maintenance, and the muted palette keeps them from reading as novelty. It fits a kitchen with an open shelf and a reason to fill it. Designed for kitchens and plant-filled rooms, it holds up as decor rather than as something you finish and put in a drawer. Reference CP09-2. The rosette spirals inward in a single continuous line, so the eye keeps travelling to the centre instead of resting on the outside Which is a harder thing to draw than it sounds.

succulent motifs suit plant-lovers who want the form without the maintenance, and the muted palette keeps them from reading as novelty. That is why kitchens and plant-filled rooms is where it does its best work.

This is a DOTZSO tray kit for anyone who wants a useful piece of homeware at the end of it. The kit includes the printed wooden tray, DOTZSO resin drills, a sorting tray, a comfort-grip applicator pen, a wax caddy and pictorial steps.

A tray stays out on the counter if it can take a hot mug. That is what the sealed surface and solid body are for.

Full drill across the base keeps the finish consistent from handle to handle.

What’s in the Box

  • 1 × printed wooden tray with cut-in handles
  • DOTZSO signature resin drills, sorted by colour (with extra drills included)
  • Diamond painting tray
  • Comfort-grip applicator pen
  • Wax caddy
  • Pictorial step-by-step instructions

How to Make It

  1. Lay the printed tray face flat and let it settle before starting.
  2. Find the legend strip and match the first symbol to its drill colour.
  3. Press the pen tip into the wax caddy, then touch it to a drill – the drill lifts and stays on the tip.
  4. Set the drill onto the matching printed symbol and press lightly. Work one colour block at a time rather than across the whole tray.
  5. Continue until the face is covered, then press the finished surface flat with a book for an hour to seat every drill.
  6. Seal the surface fully before the tray goes into service, or the drills will lift under a plate.

Take it one colour at a time, and let the finished tray move onto the counter.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the wooden tray kit pictured the exact configuration that ships?

Yes. The Succulent wooden tray kit ships complete with the wooden tray and cut-in handles; you drill the printed face and then the tray goes into service, plus the DOTZSO resin drills, tray, applicator pen, wax caddy and pictorial instructions. Nothing else needs sourcing. Reference CP09-2.

Are the drills on the Succulent design fixed firmly once completed?

Once the drills are seated and the surface is sealed, the Succulent design holds under normal use. The surface is sealed, so it handles mugs and plates in normal use. Very hot pans straight from the hob are another matter — use a trivet, and the sealing step is the single biggest factor in how long the finish lasts. The sealing step at the end is what locks it in.

Can the Succulent wooden tray kit get wet?

Wipe with a damp cloth and dry immediately. Do not submerge it or put it through a dishwasher — the adhesive layer under the drills is not built for a soak. For the Succulent palette, muted sage and dusty jade tones show dust less than pale grounds, so a light pass is usually enough. The Succulent surface is not built for immersion.

Is the Succulent design drilled uniformly?

The face is drilled across the whole surface, so the finished tray has complete coverage without bare wood showing. The Succulent artwork is drawn so that a rosette succulent seen from above reads clearly at any distance. The Succulent piece has a uniform drilled finish.

Does the Succulent wooden tray kit work well as an ongoing project?

Plan for a few sessions rather than one. Working a single colour block at a time is faster than moving across the tray at random. The Succulent design is calm and botanical, which tends to make it easier to work in short sessions. It works well as an ongoing project.

What size Succulent wooden tray kit would suit a gift?

The range covers 7.8 × 11.8 in, 9.8 × 13.8 in and 12.2 × 16.1 in, so there is a format for a bedside table or a full dinner service. This listing is the 12.2×16.1 in format. Reference CP09-2.

  1. Wilfred Lilly (verified owner) –

I’ve wanted a tray like this for a while. Surface is flat and level, glasses don’t wobble on it. It needed a wipe down before the first use. I find it relaxing to just follow the chart and let my mind wander. It makes a lovely gift and arrives nicely packaged. Overall a good experience.

  2. Isabella Skinner –

This one took a bit more time and was worth it. The drilled panel is recessed so it’s protected from spills. The rim could be a touch deeper. Perfect for a cozy evening in when you want to keep your hands busy. It’s tidied up a spot that had been a mess for months. Happy with it, with a few caveats.

The wood base makes this feel like real decor. I’ll be buying more from this shop. Handles are a bit narrow for larger hands. Still worth it overall.

  4. Lloyd Marshall –

This arrived in perfect condition, nothing bent or spilled. The base is flat and doesn’t rock on the table. Handles are a bit narrow for larger hands. A really satisfying project from start to finish. Would buy again; the notes are minor.

Made one for my sister and now she wants the kit too. I use it for serving when we have guests and it always gets noticed. The wood arrived with one small scuff on the side. Overall a good experience.

This one caught my eye and I’m glad it did. The drilled panel is recessed so it’s protected from spills. Finished piece looks even better in person than in the listing photos. It needed a wipe down before the first use. Would recommend it with those notes.

  7. Fernando Houston (verified owner) –

Bought this as a reward for getting through a busy stretch at work. The size is right for the space I had in mind. This is the kind of craft that’s genuinely calming after a hectic day. The packaging was a little plain for a gift. Overall happy, just a few small things.

  8. Jason Warren –

Came quickly and was packaged really well. The drills are set evenly across the whole surface. It needed a wipe down before the first use. Perfect for winding down before bed, much better than watching another show. A solid purchase with a couple of notes.

  9. Zoe Lang –

I ordered this the day after finishing my last project. The adhesive held well across several weeks of working on it. I wish it came pre-sealed. Something about placing the drills is very settling. It sits by the door catching keys and mail. Happy with it, with a few caveats.

  10. Rebecca Heller (verified owner) –

A friend wouldn’t stop talking about hers, so I finally ordered one. The drills are set evenly across the whole surface. It’s slightly heavier than I expected. The repetitive motion is oddly satisfying, one of those simple pleasures. Small things aside, it’s a good buy.

  11. Elise Grant (verified owner) –

I keep coming back to this shop because the quality is consistent. Solid wood, much better than the pressed board versions. Worth the time it took. I wish the instructions went into a bit more detail for a first-timer. Would recommend it with those notes.

  12. Ted Patel (verified owner) –

Ordered two of these and gave one away as a gift. The drilled panel is recessed so it’s protected from spills. A really enjoyable way to pass a rainy afternoon. Some colors came with barely any extras, though I didn’t run out. Still worth it overall.

  13. Erick Byrne (verified owner) –

Made this for our coffee table and get compliments on it constantly. It’s sized right for two mugs and a small plate. Nothing arrived damaged, and everything was sealed properly. I wish it came pre-sealed. It’s become my evening ritual – an hour of this and I feel settled. Holds two mugs and a plate easily. Worth it despite the small things.

  14. Wilson Brennan (verified owner) –

The wood base is much sturdier than I expected. Everyone who sees it asks where it came from. Took a bit longer to arrive than I expected. Would order again despite the small issues.

  15. Chad Holloway (verified owner) –

The wood base makes this feel like real decor. The wood finish is smooth and looks properly done. The repetitive motion is oddly satisfying, one of those simple pleasures. There were slightly more drills than needed, so it took longer than planned. The handles make it genuinely useful, not just decorative. Would order again despite the small issues.

  16. Edwin Dillon (verified owner) –

Ordered it after seeing one a friend finished, and I get the appeal now. The size is right for the space I had in mind. The backing held up fine and didn’t peel anywhere. Only one finish is available, which is limiting. I listened to a podcast and the time went by without noticing. It’s on our ottoman and gets used for coffee every morning. I’d recommend it with that one note.

  17. Rodney Hackett (verified owner) –

Ordered this for a quiet weekend and it delivered. The handles make it genuinely practical, not just decorative. The wood arrived with one small scuff on the side. Still a solid purchase.

  18. Emmett Hatcher –

Gave one to my in-laws and they display it proudly. The finish is even across the whole piece. This is the kind of craft that’s genuinely calming after a hectic day. A few bags weren’t labeled as clearly as the rest. It’s become the anchor of the nightstand. I’d recommend it with that one note.

  19. Vickie Peters (verified owner) –

Honestly better quality than I expected for the price. The drill design sits flush with the tray surface. Really soothing to focus on one small area at a time. One bag of drills had come open in transit. Great value considering how many hours of enjoyment it gave me. Small issues, but nothing that would stop me ordering again.

  20. Mildred V. (verified owner) –

This tray kit felt like a real step up from the flat canvases. Nothing arrived damaged, and everything was sealed properly. The drilled panel sits slightly proud of the rim. Nice to have something that gets me off my phone for a while. It’s the kind of project you feel good about finishing. Still worth it overall.

  21. Wyatt Ferguson (verified owner) –

Picked this up during a sale and it was money well spent. The tray has a proper raised rim, so nothing rolls off. Not something I’d put in the dishwasher or soak, obviously. It’s tidied up a spot that had been a mess for months. Still worth it overall.

  22. Dora Sellers (verified owner) –

I’ve wanted one of these trays for ages and finally made one. The tray and tweezers included were better than I expected. You’ll want to seal it yourself if you’re putting wet glasses on it. A really enjoyable way to pass a rainy afternoon. I use it for serving when we have people over. Still worth it overall.

  23. Jon Newman (verified owner) –

Made one for my sister and now she wants the kit too. The drills arrived clean, not stuck together in clumps. Looks beautiful on the coffee table with a candle on it. The wax ran out before I finished and I had to use my own. Would still recommend it.

  24. Rosie Pope (verified owner) –

Made this as a wedding gift and it was a big hit. Solid wood, much better than the pressed board versions. I like that it’s creative without requiring any decisions. I keep remotes and candles on it when it’s not in use. Not something to soak or put in the dishwasher. Minor things, but I’d still buy it again.
