Why This Succulent Tray Earns Its Place on the Table

A Succulent layout organised around a rosette succulent seen from above, leaves layered in tightening spiral rows from the outer skirt to a closed centre, pitched in muted sage and dusty jade with rose-tipped edges against a soft grey ground. The character stays calm and botanical rather than asking for attention. Succulent motifs suit plant-lovers who want the form without the maintenance, and the muted palette keeps them from reading as novelty. It is for people who want a handmade object to actually get used. Designed for kitchens and plant-filled rooms, it holds up as decor rather than as something you finish and put in a drawer. Reference CP10-2. The rosette spirals inward in a single continuous line, so the eye keeps travelling to the centre instead of resting on the outside Which is precisely why it does not read as a stock pattern.

succulent motifs suit plant-lovers who want the form without the maintenance, and the muted palette keeps them from reading as novelty. In kitchens and plant-filled rooms it carries the calm mood without overstating it.

DOTZSO builds these tray kits for slow evenings, with a surface sealed for everyday handling. Everything ships in one box — the printed wooden tray, DOTZSO resin drills, tray, comfort-grip pen, wax caddy and illustrated guidance.

The drilled face gets the attention, but the construction does the work. Solid tray body, seated drills, sealed surface.

The whole tray face is worked, so no section looks like an afterthought.

What’s in the Box

  • 1 × printed wooden tray with cut-in handles
  • DOTZSO signature resin drills, sorted by colour (with extra drills included)
  • Diamond painting tray
  • Comfort-grip applicator pen
  • Wax caddy
  • Pictorial step-by-step instructions

How to Make It

  1. Lay the printed tray face flat and let it settle before starting.
  2. Find the legend strip and match the first symbol to its drill colour.
  3. Press the pen tip into the wax caddy, then touch it to a drill – the drill lifts and stays on the tip.
  4. Set the drill onto the matching printed symbol and press lightly. Work one colour block at a time rather than across the whole tray.
  5. Continue until the face is covered, then press the finished surface flat with a book for an hour to seat every drill.
  6. Seal the surface fully before the tray goes into service, or the drills will lift under a plate.

Work through it at whatever pace suits, then start using the tray rather than displaying it.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the whole Succulent wooden tray kit contained in a single pack?

Yes. The Succulent wooden tray kit ships complete with the wooden tray and cut-in handles; you drill the printed face and then the tray goes into service, plus the DOTZSO resin drills, tray, applicator pen, wax caddy and pictorial instructions. Nothing else needs sourcing. Reference CP10-2.

Does the Succulent wooden tray kit hold together over time?

Once the drills are seated and the surface is sealed, the Succulent design holds under normal use. The surface is sealed, so it handles mugs and plates in normal use. Very hot pans straight from the hob are another matter — use a trivet, and the sealing step is the single biggest factor in how long the finish lasts. It is a working finish rather than a display-only one.

How do I keep the Succulent wooden tray kit in good order?

Wipe with a damp cloth and dry immediately. Do not submerge it or put it through a dishwasher — the adhesive layer under the drills is not built for a soak. For the Succulent palette, muted sage and dusty jade tones show dust less than pale grounds, so a light pass is usually enough. Avoid dishwashers entirely for the Succulent piece.

Is the Succulent design drilled as a whole?

The face is drilled across the whole surface, so the finished tray has complete coverage without bare wood showing. The Succulent artwork is drawn so that a rosette succulent seen from above reads clearly at any distance. Nothing on the Succulent face is left untreated.

What is the average time for the Succulent wooden tray kit?

Plan for a few sessions rather than one. Working a single colour block at a time is faster than moving across the tray at random. The Succulent design is calm and botanical, which tends to make it easier to work in short sessions. Progress on the Succulent piece is visibly steady.

How do I know which Succulent size to order?

The range covers 7.8 × 11.8 in, 9.8 × 13.8 in and 12.2 × 16.1 in, so there is a format for a bedside table or a full dinner service. This listing is the 12.2×16.1 in format. Reference CP10-2.

  1. Jean E. –

Bought it as a housewarming gift and it was a hit. Really nice piece to have out when people come over. The adhesive picked up a bit of dust while I was working over several days. Good kit overall, just a couple of small things.

  2. Oscar A. (verified owner) –

The wood base is much sturdier than I expected. Drill colors are well separated, no squinting to tell two shades apart. Did most of it over a long weekend and it was such a pleasant way to pass the time. The pen that came with it is a bit flimsy, I swapped in my own. Looks beautiful on the coffee table with a candle on it. Minor things, but I’d still buy it again.

  3. John T. (verified owner) –

Heavier and nicer in person than it looked online. The pen and wax worked fine, I didn’t need to dig out my own tools. The drills have a nice sparkle to them, not dull or flat. It’s become my evening ritual – an hour of this and I feel settled. My friends all want one now. Very happy with this purchase.

  4. Theo T. (verified owner) –

The handles make it feel like real serveware, not just a craft. The drill design sits flush with the tray surface. I keep it set up on a side table and do a bit whenever I have ten minutes. Loved it, no regrets.

  5. Terrence A. (verified owner) –

Finished it over a weekend and it looks great on the ottoman. Handles are cut well and comfortable to actually carry. The repetitive motion is oddly satisfying, one of those simple pleasures. The pen that came with it is a bit flimsy, I swapped in my own. Good kit overall, just a couple of small things.

I use mine for morning coffee and it’s held up well. Nice finish on the wood, not rough or unfinished. It turned into something I actually want to display, not shove in a drawer. The drilled panel sits slightly proud of the rim. Good kit overall, just a couple of small things.

I’ve tried a few brands and this one holds up well. The base is flat and doesn’t rock on the table. The handles make it genuinely practical, not just decorative. Instructions were pretty minimal, though there are plenty of tutorials online. Good kit overall, just a couple of small things.

  8. Valeria L. –

Bought it for a rainy weekend and it was exactly what I needed. Handles are cut well and comfortable to actually carry. Handles are a bit narrow for larger hands. I do a section after work with a cup of tea and it’s a nice way to unwind. I’m really proud of how it turned out. Minor things, but I’d still buy it again.

This one caught my eye and I’m glad it did. The drills have a nice sparkle to them, not dull or flat. Wish it came with a protective finish already applied. I’ll be buying more from this shop. Still worth it overall.

I bought this to have something to look forward to after work. Solid wood, much better than the pressed board versions. It’s the kind of thing people ask about when they see it. Very happy customer.

I’ve wanted one of these trays for ages and finally made one. The corners are finished cleanly with no gaps. It looks like something you’d buy, not something you assembled. The rim could be a touch deeper. Worth it despite the small things.

  14. Brooke Ludwig –

I ordered this for my dresser and it’s become a centerpiece. It’s the piece that made the entryway feel finished. Took a bit longer to arrive than I expected. Happy with it, with one small caveat.

My daughter chose this one for us to work on together. The bottom has a slight grip to it so it doesn’t slide. I did most of it over a lazy weekend and enjoyed every minute. Better than I expected.

Bought it for a rainy weekend and it was exactly what I needed. The drilled panel is recessed so it’s protected from spills. It’s my go-to when I want something enjoyable that doesn’t take much thought. Really nice piece to have out when people come over. Happy customer here.

Bought it for the guest room and it looks lovely there. I use it for serving when we have guests and it always gets noticed. The pen that came with it is a bit flimsy, I swapped in my own. I’d order it again knowing what I know now.

  18. Gerald Zamora (verified owner) –

This was a fun change of pace from the usual canvas kits. The kit came with a comfortable pen and enough wax for the whole project. The drill shapes were clean, not many chipped or stuck-together pieces. I keep it by my chair and pick it up whenever I have a few minutes. It turned out better than I pictured. Some colors came with barely any extras, though I didn’t run out. Worth it despite the small things.

Heavier and nicer in person than it looked online. Size is right for two mugs and a small plate. I did most of it on weekend mornings with coffee. The packaging arrived a little dented. Good enough that I’d buy another.

The tray format is such a nice change of pace. Nothing arrived damaged, and everything was sealed properly. I settled into a rhythm after the first section. It reads as a deliberate design choice, not a craft. Very happy customer.

The handles make it feel like real serveware, not just a craft. Wood feels solid, much better than the thin pressed board I’ve seen. You’ll want to seal it yourself if you’re putting wet glasses on it. Really nice piece to have out when people come over. Would order again despite the small issues.

Such an easy kit to get going with. The kit came complete, nothing extra needed from the craft store. I like that it’s creative without requiring any decisions. The sorting tray is shallow, drills spill out if you’re not careful. Still worth it overall.
