Why This Mandala Tray Earns Its Place on the Table

Built on a symmetrical mandala built in concentric rings, each band moving from geometric spokes to fine petal work toward the outer edge and finished in balanced jewel tones on a deep ground so the symmetry stays legible, this Mandala piece lands in a focused and meditative register that suits a working room. Mandala work is chosen as much for the doing as the result — the symmetry turns placement into a ritual. It suits a household where practical pieces also have to look deliberate. Designed for meditation corners and home studios, it holds up as decor rather than as something you finish and put in a drawer. Reference CP07. Mandala work is chosen as much for the doing as the result — the symmetry turns placement into a ritual It is also why the piece keeps working after the novelty fades.

mandala work is chosen as much for the doing as the result — the symmetry turns placement into a ritual. In practice that means the finished piece sits comfortably in meditation corners and home studios, where the focused character of the palette does the decorating for you.

With DOTZSO, the kit contents and the pacing are set so the whole thing stays enjoyable. Inside the box you get a printed wooden tray with cut-in handles, DOTZSO resin drills, a sorting tray, a comfort-grip applicator pen, a wax caddy and pictorial instructions.

A tray only earns its place if it gets used. The drilled surface is sealed, so nothing lifts when a plate slides across it.

Coverage runs across the whole tray face, so nothing is left printed-only.

What’s in the Box

  • 1 × printed wooden tray with cut-in handles
  • DOTZSO signature resin drills, sorted by colour (with extra drills included)
  • Diamond painting tray
  • Comfort-grip applicator pen
  • Wax caddy
  • Pictorial step-by-step instructions

How to Make It

  1. Lay the printed tray face flat and let it settle before starting.
  2. Find the legend strip and match the first symbol to its drill colour.
  3. Press the pen tip into the wax caddy, then touch it to a drill – the drill lifts and stays on the tip.
  4. Set the drill onto the matching printed symbol and press lightly. Work one colour block at a time rather than across the whole tray.
  5. Continue until the face is covered, then press the finished surface flat with a book for an hour to seat every drill.
  6. Seal the surface fully before the tray goes into service, or the drills will lift under a plate.

Take it one colour at a time, and let the finished tray move onto the counter.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the wooden tray kit packaged with everything for the Mandala design?

Yes. The Mandala wooden tray kit ships complete with the wooden tray and cut-in handles; you drill the printed face and then the tray goes into service, plus the DOTZSO resin drills, tray, applicator pen, wax caddy and pictorial instructions. Nothing else needs sourcing. Reference CP07.

Is the Mandala wooden tray kit tough enough for a busy household?

Once the drills are seated and the surface is sealed, the Mandala design holds under normal use. The surface is sealed, so it handles mugs and plates in normal use. Very hot pans straight from the hob are another matter — use a trivet, and the sealing step is the single biggest factor in how long the finish lasts. The Mandala piece is robust once the final pass is complete.

Does the Mandala piece require any upkeep?

Wipe with a damp cloth and dry immediately. Do not submerge it or put it through a dishwasher — the adhesive layer under the drills is not built for a soak. For the Mandala palette, balanced jewel tones on a deep ground so the symmetry stays legible tones show dust less than pale grounds, so a light pass is usually enough. Regular light cleaning keeps the Mandala finish crisp.

Will the Mandala wooden tray kit look complete when finished?

The face is drilled across the whole surface, so the finished tray has complete coverage without bare wood showing. The Mandala artwork is drawn so that a symmetrical mandala built in concentric rings reads clearly at any distance. The Mandala design is worked without breaks in coverage.

Is the Mandala design a weekend project?

Plan for a few sessions rather than one. Working a single colour block at a time is faster than moving across the tray at random. The Mandala design is focused and meditative, which tends to make it easier to work in short sessions. It works well as an ongoing project.

Does the Mandala design scale well across sizes?

The range covers 7.8 × 11.8 in, 9.8 × 13.8 in and 12.2 × 16.1 in, so there is a format for a bedside table or a full dinner service. This listing is the 7.8×11.8 in format. Reference CP07.

This was a fun change of pace from the usual canvas kits. The drills came in labeled bags, which made sorting painless. The mandala-style subject is rendered with more detail than I expected. Not something I’d put in the dishwasher or soak, obviously. Really calming, repetitive work, and satisfying when a section is finished. Happy enough that I’d buy another.

I’ve been doing these for about a year and this is a solid kit. The drill shapes were clean, not many chipped or stuck-together pieces. I brought it on a week at the lake and finished most of it there. You’ll want to seal it yourself if you’re putting wet glasses on it. Looks beautiful on the coffee table with a candle on it. Happy enough that I’d buy another.

  3. Luciana Funk (verified owner) –

Bought this as a reward for getting through a busy stretch at work. The tray has real weight to it, feels like serveware. The wax ran out before I finished and I had to use my own. I worked through this over a few weeks of evenings and loved it. It looks like a piece of decor, not a storage solution. Worth buying, just plan for those small quirks.

  4. Linda Garner (verified owner) –

This was a step up from the smaller kits and I enjoyed it. It’s on the bathroom counter and looks intentional. The packaging arrived a little dented. Minor things, but I’d still buy it again.

  5. Wilbur Newman (verified owner) –

I keep a project going at all times and this is the current one. Solid wood, much better than the pressed board versions. One small scuff on the wood when it arrived. It’s my screen-free hour in the evening. I use it for serving when we have guests and it always gets noticed. Worth buying, just plan for those small quirks.

  6. Shaun Brock –

This arrived on a rainy Tuesday and turned the week around. Wood feels solid, much better than the thin pressed board I’ve seen. The finished piece looks far more expensive than the kit cost. The pen that came with it is a bit flimsy, I swapped in my own. The mandala-style artwork is the reason I clicked. I’d order it again knowing what I know now.

  7. Kurt Kelly (verified owner) –

This was a step up from the smaller kits and I enjoyed it. The mandala colors are richer than the photos show. The adhesive is plenty sticky, the drills stay exactly where I put them. I keep it set up on a side table and do a bit whenever I have ten minutes. My mother-in-law displays hers proudly. It needed a wipe down before the first use. Worth it, just go in with the right expectations.

I’ve wanted one of these trays for ages and finally made one. The overall look is clean and cohesive. The wood arrived with one small scuff on the side. Worth buying, just plan for those small quirks.

  9. Maggie Humphries (verified owner) –

Bought it for the guest room and it looks lovely there. The rim is deep enough to actually hold things. It looks beautiful with a candle and a book on it. Only one finish is available, which is limiting. Small issues, but nothing that would stop me ordering again.

  10. Isaiah D. (verified owner) –

I’ve done a handful of these now and this one is up there with the best. The drills have a nice sparkle to them, not dull or flat. The adhesive picked up a bit of dust while I was working over several days. It’s on our ottoman and gets used for coffee every morning. Still a solid purchase.

This was a fun change of pace from the usual canvas kits. My friends all want one now. If you like mandala-style designs, this is a good one to go for. The wood arrived with one small scuff on the side. Overall a good experience.

  12. Cora Swanson (verified owner) –

Bought it for the guest room and it looks lovely there. Wood feels solid, much better than the thin pressed board I’ve seen. Really soothing to focus on one small area at a time. The tray included is on the small side. It turned into something I actually want to display, not shove in a drawer. A solid purchase with a couple of notes.

  13. Jim Rodriguez (verified owner) –

This was my first tray kit and I’d do another. The mandala detail is impressive up close. The wood arrived with one small scuff on the side. The wood finish is smooth and looks properly done. Really soothing to focus on one small area at a time. Overall a good experience.

  14. Logan Gibson (verified owner) –

Really impressed with how solid the tray feels. It sits by the door catching keys and mail. A couple of the darker shades were hard to tell apart. Minor things, but I’d still buy it again.

  15. Pearl Watson (verified owner) –

This was a step up from the smaller kits and I enjoyed it. Holds two mugs and a plate easily. The artwork looks even better in person than the photos. Not something to soak or put in the dishwasher. Good enough that I’d buy another.

  16. Nick Hammond (verified owner) –

Bought this for our coffee table and it’s become a fixture. The drilled section is recessed and protected from spills. Good quality drills with clean edges, not chipped. I take it to my book club and work on it while we chat. I’m proud to have this on display. Wish it came with a protective finish already applied. Happy with it, with one small caveat.

  17. Irving Carroll –

I bought this to have something to look forward to after work. It makes a lovely gift and arrives nicely packaged. The drilled panel sits slightly proud of the rim. Happy with it, with one small caveat.

Grabbed this on a whim after a long week. The base is flat and doesn’t rock on the table. The handles are a bit narrow for larger hands. I work on it after dinner and it helps me switch off. Worth the time it took. Minor things, but I’d still buy it again.
