Why This Mandala Tray Earns Its Place on the Table

A symmetrical mandala built in concentric rings, each band moving from geometric spokes to fine petal work toward the outer edge anchors this Mandala design, and balanced jewel tones on a deep ground so the symmetry stays legible sets the temperature. The result is focused and meditative in a way that survives daily use. Mandala work is chosen as much for the doing as the result — the symmetry turns placement into a ritual. It is aimed at hosts who care about what the food arrives on. Designed for meditation corners and home studios, it holds up as decor rather than as something you finish and put in a drawer. Reference CP08. Working a mandala ring by ring is the most repetitive version of this craft, and the repetition is the point Everything else in the design follows from it.

mandala work is chosen as much for the doing as the result — the symmetry turns placement into a ritual. That makes it straightforward to place in meditation corners and home studios, where the focused tone already fits.

DOTZSO designed this one for slow sessions and long service, not for a display cabinet. Packed with the tray are DOTZSO resin drills, a sorting tray, a comfort-grip applicator pen, a wax caddy and step-by-step pictorial guidance.

The tray body is the part that matters. The printed surface is sealed after the drills are seated, so the tray takes hot mugs and plates without marking.

The base is drilled edge to edge, which keeps the tray looking deliberate at any angle.

What’s in the Box

  • 1 × printed wooden tray with cut-in handles
  • DOTZSO signature resin drills, sorted by colour (with extra drills included)
  • Diamond painting tray
  • Comfort-grip applicator pen
  • Wax caddy
  • Pictorial step-by-step instructions

How to Make It

  1. Lay the printed tray face flat and let it settle before starting.
  2. Find the legend strip and match the first symbol to its drill colour.
  3. Press the pen tip into the wax caddy, then touch it to a drill – the drill lifts and stays on the tip.
  4. Set the drill onto the matching printed symbol and press lightly. Work one colour block at a time rather than across the whole tray.
  5. Continue until the face is covered, then press the finished surface flat with a book for an hour to seat every drill.
  6. Seal the surface fully before the tray goes into service, or the drills will lift under a plate.

Work through it at whatever pace suits, then start using the tray rather than displaying it.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the wooden tray kit a single complete purchase?

Yes. The Mandala wooden tray kit ships complete with the wooden tray and cut-in handles; you drill the printed face and then the tray goes into service, plus the DOTZSO resin drills, tray, applicator pen, wax caddy and pictorial instructions. Nothing else needs sourcing. Reference CP08.

How does the Mandala wooden tray kit stand up month to month?

Once the drills are seated and the surface is sealed, the Mandala design holds under normal use. The surface is sealed, so it handles mugs and plates in normal use. Very hot pans straight from the hob are another matter — use a trivet, and the sealing step is the single biggest factor in how long the finish lasts. Press the surface flat once you finish and the coverage stays put.

How do I remove marks from the Mandala surface?

Wipe with a damp cloth and dry immediately. Do not submerge it or put it through a dishwasher — the adhesive layer under the drills is not built for a soak. For the Mandala palette, balanced jewel tones on a deep ground so the symmetry stays legible tones show dust less than pale grounds, so a light pass is usually enough. Keep it out of prolonged direct sun to hold the Mandala colours.

Does the Mandala artwork rely on printed areas as well as drills?

The face is drilled across the whole surface, so the finished tray has complete coverage without bare wood showing. The Mandala artwork is drawn so that a symmetrical mandala built in concentric rings reads clearly at any distance. The Mandala face is drilled as a single continuous field.

Is the Mandala design suited to evening work?

Plan for a few sessions rather than one. Working a single colour block at a time is faster than moving across the tray at random. The Mandala design is focused and meditative, which tends to make it easier to work in short sessions. Progress on the Mandala piece is visibly steady.

Which Mandala format is the most versatile?

The range covers 7.8 × 11.8 in, 9.8 × 13.8 in and 12.2 × 16.1 in, so there is a format for a bedside table or a full dinner service. This listing is the 7.8×11.8 in format. Reference CP08.

The wood base is much sturdier than I expected. I use it for serving when we have guests and it always gets noticed. The mandala-style detail comes together really nicely once it’s finished. Took me a while to get the hang of the multi-placer tip. Good kit overall, just a couple of small things.

This was my first diamond painting kit and I’m officially hooked. Each color was packed generously, I had plenty to spare. I found it really peaceful to focus on one small area at a time. My friends all want one now. A few bags weren’t labeled as clearly as the rest. Still a solid purchase.

  3. Lynda Guerrero (verified owner) –

Heavier and nicer in person than it looked online. The drilled section is recessed and protected from spills. I went with the mandala-style version and the colors are lovely. I like that it’s creative without requiring any decisions. It looks lovely on the dresser. The drilled panel sits slightly proud of the rim. Good kit overall, just a couple of small things.

I’ve wanted one of these trays for ages and finally made one. The mandala-style pattern is what drew me in and it didn’t disappoint. Great gift for anyone who likes hosting. You’ll want to seal it yourself if you’re putting wet glasses on it. Minor things, but I’d still buy it again.

  5. Garrett J. (verified owner) –

Finished it over a weekend and it looks great on the ottoman. Very pleased with how it came together. Handles are a bit narrow for larger hands. Would order again despite the small issues.

  6. Bethany Bullock (verified owner) –

Bought this after finishing my last kit and it was a good call. The corners are finished cleanly with no gaps. One small scuff on the wood when it arrived. I do a section a night with a podcast on. I’d order again, just knowing what to expect.

  7. Eric Baxter (verified owner) –

This is a genuinely nice kit for the money. The drills came in labeled bags, which made sorting painless. Only one finish is available, which is limiting. It’s a good way to slow down at the end of the day. Solid overall, just a couple of nitpicks.

  8. Melissa F. (verified owner) –

The wood base is much sturdier than I expected. Handles are cut well and comfortable to actually carry. Drill colors are well separated, no squinting to tell two shades apart. Wish it came with a protective finish already applied. I do this on the porch in the summer and it’s lovely. The colors work beautifully with the room. The mandala-style detail comes together really nicely once it’s finished. Still worth it overall.

  9. Kathryn Dickerson –

The wood base is much sturdier than I expected. The rim is deep enough to actually hold things. The pen that came with it is a bit flimsy, I swapped in my own. Looks beautiful on the coffee table with a candle on it. Good kit — the notes above are minor.

  10. Rosemary Ashley (verified owner) –

This was my first tray kit and I’d do another. The edges are sealed so nothing catches on them. The pen was fine, though I ended up using my own. I keep remotes and coasters on mine when it’s not in use. Would buy again; the notes are minor.

I bought this to organize my nightstand and it looks lovely. It looks lovely on the dresser. Instructions were minimal, though it’s easy enough to figure out. Worth it, just go in with the right expectations.

  12. Kathy Barnes (verified owner) –

Made this as a wedding gift and it was a big hit. The pen and wax worked fine, I didn’t need to dig out my own tools. Not something I’d put in the dishwasher or soak, obviously. It’s a calm, repetitive hobby and that’s exactly what I wanted. Worth it despite the small things.

  13. Trisha Schneider (verified owner) –

Was looking for something to do with my hands in the evenings. I can carry a full mug without worrying about the handles. Only small gripe is that a few drills had little burrs on them. I take it on the porch in the evenings when the weather is nice. I’d order again, just knowing what to expect.

Exactly what the listing described, no surprises. The drills are bright and consistent in size, no weird off-color batches. The finished piece gets compliments from everyone who visits. Only small gripe is that a few drills had little burrs on them. Good kit overall, just a couple of small things.

Ordered two kits, this was the one I finished first. The base is flat and doesn’t rock on the table. I found it really peaceful to focus on one small area at a time. The wood arrived with one small scuff on the side. My friends all want one now. Good kit overall, just a couple of small things.

  16. Trudy Frye (verified owner) –

Ordered this as a gift for a friend who loves a tidy house. The release paper peeled back cleanly without tearing. I did a section a night and looked forward to it each time. I’d have liked it a size larger. Happy enough that I’d buy another.

  17. Neil Levine (verified owner) –

This is a genuinely nice kit for the money. The wood is thick and sanded smooth, no splinters. The handles are a bit narrow for larger hands. I do this instead of scrolling and feel much better for it. The mandala-style motif makes it feel special. Good kit overall, just a couple of small things.

Bought this for our coffee table and it’s become a fixture. The drills are set evenly across the whole surface. It’s a good way to slow down at the end of the day. The mandala detail is impressive up close. It’s become a fixture in the living room. I’d have liked it a size larger. Worth it, just go in with the right expectations.

Made this as a wedding gift and it was a big hit. The adhesive is plenty sticky, the drills stay exactly where I put them. This is a lovely mandala-style piece for the price. Perfect for slow evenings when you don’t want more screen time. The multi-placer tip took some practice. Overall happy, just a few small things.

This tray is the perfect size for the kitchen island. The wax and pen that came with it worked fine right out of the box. Only one finish is available, which is limiting. It’s on the bathroom counter and looks intentional. Overall happy, just a few small things.
