Why This Succulent Tray Earns Its Place on the Table

A Succulent study built on a rosette succulent seen from above, leaves layered in tightening spiral rows from the outer skirt to a closed centre. The palette stays in muted sage and dusty jade with rose-tipped edges against a soft grey ground, and the piece keeps a calm and botanical register throughout. Succulent motifs suit plant-lovers who want the form without the maintenance, and the muted palette keeps them from reading as novelty. It is for anyone tired of trays that warp or blister within a season. Designed for kitchens and plant-filled rooms, it holds up as decor rather than as something you finish and put in a drawer. Reference CP09. succulent motifs suit plant-lovers who want the form without the maintenance, and the muted palette keeps them from reading as novelty, and that is the standard the rest of the piece is held to.

succulent motifs suit plant-lovers who want the form without the maintenance, and the muted palette keeps them from reading as novelty. Which is what makes it easy to live with in kitchens and plant-filled rooms long after it is finished.

A DOTZSO tray is meant to be worked at an easy pace and then actually used to carry things. The package contains the printed wooden tray, DOTZSO resin drills, a tray, a comfort-grip applicator pen, a wax caddy and a full pictorial guide.

The tray body is the part that matters. The printed surface is sealed after the drills are seated, so the tray takes hot mugs and plates without marking.

Edge-to-edge drilling on the base is what stops the tray looking unfinished at the corners.

What’s in the Box

  • 1 × printed wooden tray with cut-in handles
  • DOTZSO signature resin drills, sorted by colour (with extra drills included)
  • Diamond painting tray
  • Comfort-grip applicator pen
  • Wax caddy
  • Pictorial step-by-step instructions

How to Make It

  1. Lay the printed tray face flat and let it settle before starting.
  2. Find the legend strip and match the first symbol to its drill colour.
  3. Press the pen tip into the wax caddy, then touch it to a drill – the drill lifts and stays on the tip.
  4. Set the drill onto the matching printed symbol and press lightly. Work one colour block at a time rather than across the whole tray.
  5. Continue until the face is covered, then press the finished surface flat with a book for an hour to seat every drill.
  6. Seal the surface fully before the tray goes into service, or the drills will lift under a plate.

Work at whatever speed you like, then move the finished tray straight into service.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is everything needed for the Succulent wooden tray kit in the pack?

Yes. The Succulent wooden tray kit ships complete with the wooden tray and cut-in handles; you drill the printed face and then the tray goes into service, plus the DOTZSO resin drills, tray, applicator pen, wax caddy and pictorial instructions. Nothing else needs sourcing. Reference CP09.

Is the Succulent design robust once the sealing step is done?

Once the drills are seated and the surface is sealed, the Succulent design holds under normal use. The surface is sealed, so it handles mugs and plates in normal use. Very hot pans straight from the hob are another matter — use a trivet, and the sealing step is the single biggest factor in how long the finish lasts. The Succulent surface tolerates being picked up and moved.

How do I freshen up the Succulent wooden tray kit?

Wipe with a damp cloth and dry immediately. Do not submerge it or put it through a dishwasher — the adhesive layer under the drills is not built for a soak. For the Succulent palette, muted sage and dusty jade tones show dust less than pale grounds, so a light pass is usually enough. Avoid abrasive pads, which would dull the Succulent surface.

How much of the Succulent wooden tray kit is covered in drills?

The face is drilled across the whole surface, so the finished tray has complete coverage without bare wood showing. The Succulent artwork is drawn so that a rosette succulent seen from above reads clearly at any distance. The Succulent pattern carries to the outer edge.

What is the realistic build time for the Succulent design?

Plan for a few sessions rather than one. Working a single colour block at a time is faster than moving across the tray at random. The Succulent design is calm and botanical, which tends to make it easier to work in short sessions. The Succulent pattern is easy to work in short bursts.

Does the Succulent wooden tray kit come in a large format?

The range covers 7.8 × 11.8 in, 9.8 × 13.8 in and 12.2 × 16.1 in, so there is a format for a bedside table or a full dinner service. This listing is the 7.8×11.8 in format. Reference CP09.

Heavier and nicer in person than it looked online. The handles make it genuinely practical, not just decorative. The wax ran out before I finished and I had to use my own. Still a solid purchase.

Made one for my sister and now she wants the kit too. Packaging was tidy and nothing had spilled in transit. The drills have a nice sparkle to them, not dull or flat. The wax ran out before I finished and I had to use my own. I do this on the porch in the summer and it’s lovely. Really happy with the end result. Good kit overall, just a couple of small things.

This arrived in perfect condition, nothing bent or spilled. Glue coverage was even, no dry patches anywhere. The pen that came with it is a bit flimsy, I swapped in my own. The handles make it genuinely practical, not just decorative. Still worth it overall.

I’ve tried a few brands and this one holds up well. Size is right for two mugs and a small plate. Handles are a bit narrow for larger hands. Would make a really nice gift, and it arrives boxed nicely. Worth buying, just plan for those small quirks.

  8. Eduardo Campos (verified owner) –

Bought this for our coffee table and it’s become a fixture. No missing colors and no shortage on the ones used most. The drill shapes were clean, not many chipped or stuck-together pieces. The rim could be a touch deeper. It’s easy to pick up and put down, which suits my schedule. It’s earned a spot on the wall. Would still recommend it.

Made this for our coffee table and get compliments on it constantly. Wood feels solid, much better than the thin pressed board I’ve seen. I found it a nice counterweight to a screen-heavy day. The handles are a bit narrow for larger hands. Happy with it, with a few caveats.

I bought this to have something to look forward to after work. The tray has a proper raised rim, so nothing rolls off. I wish it came pre-sealed. It’s the piece that made the entryway feel finished. Overall a good experience.

  12. Paige V. (verified owner) –

Really impressed with how solid the tray feels. Good weight to the materials, it doesn’t feel cheap. The adhesive picked up a bit of dust while I was working over several days. Perfect for a cozy evening in when you want to keep your hands busy. Good kit overall, just a couple of small things.

This was a fun change of pace from the usual canvas kits. I keep remotes and coasters on mine when it’s not in use. Handles are a bit narrow for larger hands. Would order again despite the small issues.

  14. Kristi Keith –

Ordered this after seeing it on a friend’s shelf. The backing held up fine and didn’t peel anywhere. The corners collect a little dust that’s fiddly to reach. Quiet Sunday mornings with this and a coffee is my favorite part of the week. It’s practical and it looks good doing the job. Still worth it overall.

  15. Christie Flint (verified owner) –

Ordered this as a gift for a friend who loves a tidy house. The wood is thick and sanded smooth, no splinters. The handles are a bit narrow for larger hands. I finished it faster than I expected because I kept coming back to it. The handles make it genuinely useful, not just decorative. Happy with it despite the small stuff.

  16. Mason Mixon –

The handles make it feel like real serveware, not just a craft. The proportions work well for a dresser or a vanity. One color had a couple of misshapen drills, but spares covered it. I’ve already had several people ask where it came from. Overall a good experience.

  17. Shirley Doss (verified owner) –

Bought this as a reward for getting through a busy stretch at work. Colors match the listing photo really closely. One color had a couple of misshapen drills, but spares covered it. My mother-in-law displays hers proudly. Still a good kit overall.

  18. Millard Summers (verified owner) –

I picked this up for the entryway table and it’s perfect there. The handles make it genuinely easy to carry. Drill colors are well separated, no squinting to tell two shades apart. Not something to soak or put in the dishwasher. I did most of it on weekend mornings with coffee. The finished piece looks far more expensive than the kit cost. Still a good kit overall.

Been eyeing this one for a while and finally pulled the trigger. The legend was easy to follow and matched the canvas printing. A few bags weren’t labeled as clearly as the rest. I do this on the porch in the summer and it’s lovely. I use it for serving when we have guests and it always gets noticed. Still a good kit overall.

This is a genuinely nice kit for the money. The drills are bright and consistent in size, no weird off-color batches. The tray was smaller than I’d like for a big session. Perfect for a cozy evening in when you want to keep your hands busy. Would buy again; the notes are minor.

I’ve wanted one of these trays for ages and finally made one. The wood finish is smooth and looks properly done. The packaging arrived a little dented. I brought it on a weekend trip and finished most of it there. I’d recommend it with that one note.

This was a step up from the smaller kits and I enjoyed it. Looks beautiful on the coffee table with a candle on it. The canvas had a faint mark from the printing on one edge. I’d order again, just knowing what to expect.

  26. Muriel Wilkerson (verified owner) –

Something about a functional project makes it more satisfying. Everything was bagged and labeled, so setup took five minutes. Glue coverage was even, no dry patches anywhere. Shipping took a bit longer than the estimate. The repetitive motion is oddly satisfying, one of those simple pleasures. It’s the kind of thing guests notice right away. Happy enough that I’d buy another.

Heavier and nicer in person than it looked online. The drilled panel is recessed so it’s protected from spills. I did most of it over a lazy weekend and enjoyed every minute. It’s on our ottoman and gets used for coffee every morning. Took a bit longer to arrive than I expected. Still worth it overall.

This was my first diamond painting kit and I’m officially hooked. The wood is thick and finished smoothly, no splinters anywhere. I brought it on a weekend trip and finished most of it there. You’ll want to seal it yourself if you’ll set wet glasses on it. A solid purchase with a couple of notes.
