Why This Mandala Tray Earns Its Place on the Table

A Mandala layout organised around a symmetrical mandala built in concentric rings, each band moving from geometric spokes to fine petal work toward the outer edge, pitched in balanced jewel tones on a deep ground so the symmetry stays legible. The character stays focused and meditative rather than asking for attention. Mandala work is chosen as much for the doing as the result — the symmetry turns placement into a ritual. It is aimed at people who would rather serve on something made than something bought. Designed for meditation corners and home studios, it holds up as decor rather than as something you finish and put in a drawer. Reference CP08-1. Working a mandala ring by ring is the most repetitive version of this craft, and the repetition is the point Which is a harder thing to draw than it sounds.

mandala work is chosen as much for the doing as the result — the symmetry turns placement into a ritual. In meditation corners and home studios the piece holds its own against the surrounding colour rather than fighting it.

A DOTZSO tray is meant to be worked at an easy pace and then actually used to carry things. You receive the printed wooden tray, DOTZSO resin drills, a sorting tray, a comfort-grip pen, a wax caddy and clear pictorial instructions.

The detail most tray kits miss is the seal. It is what keeps the surface usable after the novelty has passed.

The base is drilled edge to edge, which keeps the tray looking deliberate at any angle.

What’s in the Box

  • 1 × printed wooden tray with cut-in handles
  • DOTZSO signature resin drills, sorted by colour (with extra drills included)
  • Diamond painting tray
  • Comfort-grip applicator pen
  • Wax caddy
  • Pictorial step-by-step instructions

How to Make It

  1. Lay the printed tray face flat and let it settle before starting.
  2. Find the legend strip and match the first symbol to its drill colour.
  3. Press the pen tip into the wax caddy, then touch it to a drill – the drill lifts and stays on the tip.
  4. Set the drill onto the matching printed symbol and press lightly. Work one colour block at a time rather than across the whole tray.
  5. Continue until the face is covered, then press the finished surface flat with a book for an hour to seat every drill.
  6. Seal the surface fully before the tray goes into service, or the drills will lift under a plate.

Finish it over a few evenings, then put the tray straight to work — it is designed for daily service, not shelf duty.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the wooden tray kit pictured the exact configuration that ships?

Yes. The Mandala wooden tray kit ships complete with the wooden tray and cut-in handles; you drill the printed face and then the tray goes into service, plus the DOTZSO resin drills, tray, applicator pen, wax caddy and pictorial instructions. Nothing else needs sourcing. Reference CP08-1.

How does the Mandala wooden tray kit stand up month to month?

Once the drills are seated and the surface is sealed, the Mandala design holds under normal use. The surface is sealed, so it handles mugs and plates in normal use. Very hot pans straight from the hob are another matter — use a trivet, and the sealing step is the single biggest factor in how long the finish lasts. Treat it as a normal household item and it behaves like one.

How do I look after the Mandala wooden tray kit day to day?

Wipe with a damp cloth and dry immediately. Do not submerge it or put it through a dishwasher — the adhesive layer under the drills is not built for a soak. For the Mandala palette, balanced jewel tones on a deep ground so the symmetry stays legible tones show dust less than pale grounds, so a light pass is usually enough. Keeping the Mandala piece dust-free is the whole routine.

Does the Mandala design use drills throughout?

The face is drilled across the whole surface, so the finished tray has complete coverage without bare wood showing. The Mandala artwork is drawn so that a symmetrical mandala built in concentric rings reads clearly at any distance. The Mandala surface is worked as one continuous piece.

Is the Mandala design a long-running project?

Plan for a few sessions rather than one. Working a single colour block at a time is faster than moving across the tray at random. The Mandala design is focused and meditative, which tends to make it easier to work in short sessions. Plan the Mandala piece around several sittings.

Which Mandala size is the most versatile?

The range covers 7.8 × 11.8 in, 9.8 × 13.8 in and 12.2 × 16.1 in, so there is a format for a bedside table or a full dinner service. This listing is the 9.8×13.8 in format. Reference CP08-1.

The handles make it feel like real serveware, not just a craft. Drill colors are well separated, no squinting to tell two shades apart. I set it up next to the window and do a few rows whenever the light is good. My friends all want one now. Thumbs up from our whole family.

Heavier and nicer in person than it looked online. The finished piece gets compliments from everyone who visits. I wish the printed legend was a little bigger. Happy enough that I’d buy another.

Honestly better quality than I expected for the price. Looks beautiful on the coffee table with a candle on it. Not something I’d put in the dishwasher or soak, obviously. Would order again despite the small issues.

I’ve tried a few brands and this one holds up well. Handles are sturdy, I can carry a full mug without worrying. Not something I’d put in the dishwasher or soak, obviously. If you like mandala designs, this is a good one to go for. It’s a slow, quiet hobby and I like that about it. I’d recommend it with that one note.

I don’t usually leave reviews but this one deserved it. The drill design sits flush with the tray surface. I picked the mandala-style version and the colors are lovely. It sits on the entry table and catches keys and mail. Great kit, no complaints.

Bought it as a housewarming gift and it was a hit. Each color was packed generously, I had plenty to spare. I like having something mindful to do that doesn’t need a screen. You’ll want to seal it yourself if you’re putting wet glasses on it. I’d recommend it with that one note.

The wood base is much sturdier than I expected. The mandala subject is rendered with more detail than I expected. Handles are sturdy, I can carry a full mug without worrying. This is the kind of craft that’s genuinely calming after a hectic day. Everyone who sees it asks how long it took. Highly recommend.

I ordered this for my dresser and it’s become a centerpiece. Wood feels solid, much better than the thin pressed board I’ve seen. The mandala motif makes it feel special. It was easy to pick up and put down without losing my place. It’s practical and it looks good doing the job. Couldn’t be happier with it.

I use mine for morning coffee and it’s held up well. Surface is flat and level, glasses don’t wobble on it. The mandala artwork comes together beautifully as you work. I found it a nice counterweight to a screen-heavy day. Two thumbs up from me.

I picked this up for the entryway table and it’s perfect there. The wood is thick and finished smoothly, no splinters anywhere. The wax ran low before I finished the last section. Nice to have a hobby that leaves you calmer than you started. Worth it despite the small things.

I’ve wanted one of these trays for ages and finally made one. Size is right for two mugs and a small plate. Really calming, repetitive work, and satisfying when a section is finished. My mother-in-law displays hers proudly. It needed a wipe down before the first use. Good enough that I’d buy another.

Made one for my sister and now she wants the kit too. Good weight to the materials, it doesn’t feel cheap. The repetitive motion is oddly satisfying, one of those simple pleasures. Instructions were pretty minimal, though there are plenty of tutorials online. Worth buying, just plan for those small quirks.

Ordered it after seeing one a friend finished, and I get the appeal now. The drills are bright and consistent in size, no weird off-color batches. I brought it on a week at the lake and finished most of it there. Made one for my mother-in-law and she was delighted. Would make a great gift too.
