Why This Succulent Tray Earns Its Place on the Table

This one works a rosette succulent seen from above, leaves layered in tightening spiral rows from the outer skirt to a closed centre into a Succulent composition, coloured in muted sage and dusty jade with rose-tipped edges against a soft grey ground. The effect is calm and botanical and unfussy. Succulent motifs suit plant-lovers who want the form without the maintenance, and the muted palette keeps them from reading as novelty. It appeals to anyone who wants a piece of homeware with a story attached. Designed for kitchens and plant-filled rooms, it holds up as decor rather than as something you finish and put in a drawer. Reference CP10-1. Succulent motifs suit plant-lovers who want the form without the maintenance, and the muted palette keeps them from reading as novelty The colour is not decoration here; it is the structure.

succulent motifs suit plant-lovers who want the form without the maintenance, and the muted palette keeps them from reading as novelty. Which is exactly what a piece meant for kitchens and plant-filled rooms should do.

With DOTZSO, the kit contents and the pacing are set so the whole thing stays enjoyable. You receive the printed wooden tray, DOTZSO resin drills, a sorting tray, a comfort-grip pen, a wax caddy and clear pictorial instructions.

A tray stays out on the counter if it can take a hot mug. That is what the sealed surface and solid body are for.

Full drill coverage across the tray face is what gives it an even finish rather than bare wood showing through.

What’s in the Box

  • 1 × printed wooden tray with cut-in handles
  • DOTZSO signature resin drills, sorted by colour (with extra drills included)
  • Diamond painting tray
  • Comfort-grip applicator pen
  • Wax caddy
  • Pictorial step-by-step instructions

How to Make It

  1. Lay the printed tray face flat and let it settle before starting.
  2. Find the legend strip and match the first symbol to its drill colour.
  3. Press the pen tip into the wax caddy, then touch it to a drill – the drill lifts and stays on the tip.
  4. Set the drill onto the matching printed symbol and press lightly. Work one colour block at a time rather than across the whole tray.
  5. Continue until the face is covered, then press the finished surface flat with a book for an hour to seat every drill.
  6. Seal the surface fully before the tray goes into service, or the drills will lift under a plate.

Finish it at an easy pace, then let the tray carry breakfast rather than look at it.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the Succulent wooden tray kit ship with the mounting hardware included?

Yes. The Succulent wooden tray kit ships complete with the wooden tray and cut-in handles; you drill the printed face and then the tray goes into service, plus the DOTZSO resin drills, tray, applicator pen, wax caddy and pictorial instructions. Nothing else needs sourcing. Reference CP10-1.

Will the Succulent wooden tray kit look the same after a year of use?

Once the drills are seated and the surface is sealed, the Succulent design holds under normal use. The surface is sealed, so it handles mugs and plates in normal use. Very hot pans straight from the hob are another matter — use a trivet, and the sealing step is the single biggest factor in how long the finish lasts. Sealing properly is the whole of the maintenance story here.

Is the Succulent wooden tray kit easy to wipe down?

Wipe with a damp cloth and dry immediately. Do not submerge it or put it through a dishwasher — the adhesive layer under the drills is not built for a soak. For the Succulent palette, muted sage and dusty jade tones show dust less than pale grounds, so a light pass is usually enough. Handle the Succulent piece with dry hands where possible.

Is the Succulent wooden tray kit a full coverage piece?

The face is drilled across the whole surface, so the finished tray has complete coverage without bare wood showing. The Succulent artwork is drawn so that a rosette succulent seen from above reads clearly at any distance. There are no unworked sections on the Succulent piece.

How long will the Succulent wooden tray kit occupy me?

Plan for a few sessions rather than one. Working a single colour block at a time is faster than moving across the tray at random. The Succulent design is calm and botanical, which tends to make it easier to work in short sessions. The Succulent design is paced, not rushed.

Is there a size chart for the Succulent range?

The range covers 7.8 × 11.8 in, 9.8 × 13.8 in and 12.2 × 16.1 in, so there is a format for a bedside table or a full dinner service. This listing is the 9.8×13.8 in format. Reference CP10-1.

  1. Jasmine R. (verified owner) –

Really impressed with how solid the tray feels. Looks beautiful on the coffee table with a candle on it. Handles are a bit narrow for larger hands. Happy enough that I’d buy another.

  2. Mark J. (verified owner) –

This was a fun change of pace from the usual canvas kits. The wood base has a nice weight to it, feels like real serveware. The pen that came with it is a bit flimsy, I swapped in my own. Makes a lovely breakfast-in-bed tray. Worth buying, just plan for those small quirks.

  3. Nancy V. (verified owner) –

The handles make it feel like real serveware, not just a craft. I’ll be buying more from this shop. Not something I’d put in the dishwasher or soak, obviously. I’d recommend it with that one note.

  4. Terri Beverly (verified owner) –

This was a fun change of pace from the usual canvas kits. Holds two mugs and a plate easily. Wish it came with a protective finish already applied. Solid overall, just a couple of nitpicks.

  5. Luis C. –

This was a fun change of pace from the usual canvas kits. The drills came in labeled bags, which made sorting painless. Keeps my hands busy during long flights and hotel evenings. Finished piece looks even better in person than in the listing photos. Wish it came with a protective finish already applied. Good kit overall, just a couple of small things.

  6. Judith Eckert (verified owner) –

I’ve wanted a tray like this for a while. The tray doesn’t flex or bow when I pick it up. I wish the instructions went into a bit more detail for a first-timer. Makes a lovely gift for anyone who hosts. Good enough that I’d buy another.

  7. Bridget Raymond (verified owner) –

I bought this to organize my nightstand and it looks lovely. Glue coverage was even, no dry patches anywhere. It’s my go-to when I want something enjoyable that doesn’t take much thought. The wood arrived with one small scuff on the side. I keep remotes and coasters on mine when it’s not in use. Would still recommend it.

  8. Olive Clanton (verified owner) –

This tray is the perfect size for the kitchen island. The rim is deep enough to actually hold things. It’s my go-to when I need a quiet evening. Handles are a bit narrow for larger hands. Worth it despite the small things.

  9. Mildred Castillo (verified owner) –

This is my third order from DOTZSO and it did not disappoint. The drill panel sits flush with the tray surface. I’d have liked it a size larger. I found it a nice counterweight to a screen-heavy day. Still worth it overall.

  10. Jessica Ryan (verified owner) –

Bought this to do with my daughter on rainy days. Definitely ordering more as gifts. Only one finish is available, which is limiting. Minor gripes aside, I’d buy it again.

  11. SunbeltSparkle (verified owner) –

Bought this to hold the remotes and it’s a huge improvement. The finish looks polished rather than homemade. No missing colors and nothing short in the high-use shades. I take it to my book club and work on it while we chat. The multi-placer tip took some practice. Made one for my mother-in-law and she was delighted. Small issues, but nothing that would stop me ordering again.

This was a fun change of pace from the usual canvas kits. Great gift for anyone who likes hosting. Handles are a bit narrow for larger hands. I’d recommend it with that one note.

  13. Miguel V. (verified owner) –

I’m a repeat DOTZSO customer at this point and this kit did not disappoint. Finish is even and the whole thing looks tidy once you’re done. The drills are bright and consistent in size, no weird off-color batches. Only small gripe is that a few drills had little burrs on them. Really relaxing to do in the evening instead of scrolling. The colors work beautifully with the room. Good kit overall, just a couple of small things.

  14. Javier M. (verified owner) –

Finished it over a weekend and it looks great on the ottoman. Everything I needed was in the box – pen, wax, tray and tweezers. The pen that came with it is a bit flimsy, I swapped in my own. I do this on the porch in the summer and it’s lovely. It’s on our ottoman and gets used for coffee every morning. Would order again despite the small issues.

  15. Zelma Rodgers (verified owner) –

I’ve wanted a tray like this for a while. Solid wood, much better than the pressed board versions. Would make a really nice gift, and it arrives boxed nicely. Not something I’d put in the dishwasher or soak, obviously. Happy with it, with one small caveat.

I picked this up on a whim and ended up really enjoying it. Makes a lovely breakfast-in-bed tray. The handles are a bit narrow for larger hands. I’d recommend it with that one note.

  17. Shirley Rocha (verified owner) –

Finished it over a weekend and it looks great on the ottoman. The adhesive is plenty sticky, the drills stay exactly where I put them. I worked on this during my lunch breaks and it made the days feel better. I wish it came pre-sealed. Happy enough that I’d buy another.

  18. Marlene Marsh (verified owner) –

Bought it to have something to look forward to after work. The legend was easy to follow and matched the canvas printing. Not something to soak or put in the dishwasher. I like having a project that doesn’t demand much thought. Made one for my mother-in-law and she was delighted. Still a solid purchase.

Ordered this for a quiet weekend and it delivered. Holds two mugs and a plate easily. The multi-placer tip took some practice. I’d order again, just knowing what to expect.

  20. Leigh Miller (verified owner) –

This was a practical project and it turned out prettier than expected. The rim is deep enough to actually hold things. The work never felt like a chore. A couple of the darker shades were hard to tell apart in low light. Going to order a few more for Christmas presents. Minor things, but I’d still buy it again.

  21. Johanna Benitez (verified owner) –

I’m not usually a craft person, but this one converted me. Handles make it easy to carry from the kitchen to the couch. The wax ran out before I finished and I had to use my own. It looks like a piece of decor, not a storage solution. Small things aside, it’s a good buy.

  22. Gordon Garner (verified owner) –

This was a step up from the smaller kits and I enjoyed it. The wood is thick and finished smoothly, no splinters anywhere. Shipping took a bit longer than the estimate. I like having a project that doesn’t demand much thought. Happy with it, with one small caveat.

  23. Johnathan Martin (verified owner) –

Made this as a wedding gift and it was a big hit. Good quality drills with clean edges, not chipped. The repetitive motion is oddly satisfying, one of those simple pleasures. It looks like something from a home decor shop. I wish the printed legend was a little bigger. Happy with it, with one small caveat.

  24. Roman Higgins (verified owner) –

Really impressed with how solid the tray feels. The finish looks polished rather than homemade. The drills clicked into place without needing much pressure. The corners collect a little dust that’s fiddly to reach. It’s a good way to slow down at the end of the day. The handles make it genuinely practical, not just decorative. Minor things, but I’d still buy it again.

I use mine every morning for coffee. Makes a lovely gift for anyone who hosts. You’ll want to seal it yourself if you’ll set wet glasses on it. Still a solid purchase.

  26. Jennifer Patterson (verified owner) –

This was a step up from the smaller kits and I enjoyed it. The sparkle on these drills is genuinely nice. The adhesive picked up lint over the days I worked on it. It turned into something I actually want to display, not shove in a drawer. Still a solid purchase.

  27. Mickey Bennett (verified owner) –

The wood base makes this feel like real decor. The base is flat and sits steady on the counter. Definitely ordering more as gifts. You’ll want to seal it yourself if you’re putting wet glasses on it. Minor things, but I’d still buy it again.

  28. Zelma Bailey (verified owner) –

Bought it for a rainy weekend and it was exactly what I needed. The bottom has a slight grip to it so it doesn’t slide. Colors are distinct enough that I never mixed two shades up. The handles are a bit narrow for larger hands. Nice mindful work that keeps you present. The final result has a nice depth to it. Happy with it, with a few caveats.
