Why This Turtle Tray Earns Its Place on the Table

The Turtle motif reads as a sea turtle in mid-glide with the shell plated in distinct segments, flippers extended and reef detail behind here, cleared of clutter and coloured in emerald and olive shell segments with turquoise water and warm coral behind. The mood is slow and serene, and it holds. Turtle designs are the calmest ocean motif — the slow subject suits a slow craft. It is made for anyone who serves breakfast in bed and wants the tray to be worth looking at. Designed for bathrooms, bedrooms and ocean-toned rooms, it holds up as decor rather than as something you finish and put in a drawer. Reference CP19-1. turtle designs are the calmest ocean motif — the slow subject suits a slow craft That constraint is what gives the artwork its shape.

turtle designs are the calmest ocean motif — the slow subject suits a slow craft. In bathrooms, bedrooms and ocean-toned rooms the slow register means it never has to compete for the eye.

Every DOTZSO wooden tray kit is built for people who want the making to be restful and the finished tray to be used. Inside the box you get a printed wooden tray with cut-in handles, DOTZSO resin drills, a sorting tray, a comfort-grip applicator pen, a wax caddy and pictorial instructions.

The tray body is the part that matters. The printed surface is sealed after the drills are seated, so the tray takes hot mugs and plates without marking.

The tray face is drilled in full, so the pattern reads completely across the base.

What’s in the Box

  • 1 × printed wooden tray with cut-in handles
  • DOTZSO signature resin drills, sorted by colour (with extra drills included)
  • Diamond painting tray
  • Comfort-grip applicator pen
  • Wax caddy
  • Pictorial step-by-step instructions

How to Make It

  1. Lay the printed tray face flat and let it settle before starting.
  2. Find the legend strip and match the first symbol to its drill colour.
  3. Press the pen tip into the wax caddy, then touch it to a drill – the drill lifts and stays on the tip.
  4. Set the drill onto the matching printed symbol and press lightly. Work one colour block at a time rather than across the whole tray.
  5. Continue until the face is covered, then press the finished surface flat with a book for an hour to seat every drill.
  6. Seal the surface fully before the tray goes into service, or the drills will lift under a plate.

Finish it over a few evenings, then put the tray straight to work — it is designed for daily service, not shelf duty.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the Turtle wooden tray kit delivered as one complete package?

Yes. The Turtle wooden tray kit ships complete with the wooden tray and cut-in handles; you drill the printed face and then the tray goes into service, plus the DOTZSO resin drills, tray, applicator pen, wax caddy and pictorial instructions. Nothing else needs sourcing. Reference CP19-1.

Is the Turtle work fixed securely once complete?

Once the drills are seated and the surface is sealed, the Turtle design holds under normal use. The surface is sealed, so it handles mugs and plates in normal use. Very hot pans straight from the hob are another matter — use a trivet, and the sealing step is the single biggest factor in how long the finish lasts. Light contact and normal carrying cause no lift on the Turtle surface.

How should I clean the Turtle wooden tray kit?

Wipe with a damp cloth and dry immediately. Do not submerge it or put it through a dishwasher — the adhesive layer under the drills is not built for a soak. For the Turtle palette, emerald and olive shell segments tones show dust less than pale grounds, so a light pass is usually enough. A dry, soft cloth handles the routine dusting.

Will any part of the Turtle wooden tray kit look unfinished?

The face is drilled across the whole surface, so the finished tray has complete coverage without bare wood showing. The Turtle artwork is drawn so that a sea turtle in mid-glide with the shell plated in distinct segments reads clearly at any distance. There is no printed fill showing through on the Turtle design.

How long will the Turtle wooden tray kit take overall?

Plan for a few sessions rather than one. Working a single colour block at a time is faster than moving across the tray at random. The Turtle design is slow and serene, which tends to make it easier to work in short sessions. It works well as an ongoing project.

How should I choose between Turtle sizes?

The range covers 7.8 × 11.8 in, 9.8 × 13.8 in and 12.2 × 16.1 in, so there is a format for a bedside table or a full dinner service. This listing is the 9.8×13.8 in format. Reference CP19-1.

  1. Isabella P. –

I use mine for morning coffee and it’s held up well. Each color was packed generously, I had plenty to spare. The drills have a nice sparkle to them, not dull or flat. Great way to slow down at the end of a busy day. Took me a while to get the hang of the multi-placer tip. Already ordered another one from DOTZSO. Minor things, but I’d still buy it again.

Honestly better quality than I expected for the price. The sea turtle subject is rendered with more detail than I expected. The drilled panel sits slightly proud of the rim. The drill design sits flush with the tray surface. Holds two mugs and a plate easily. Good kit overall, just a couple of small things.

I use mine for morning coffee and it’s held up well. The wood is thick and finished smoothly, no splinters anywhere. The drill shapes were clean, not many chipped or stuck-together pieces. The repetitive motion is oddly satisfying, one of those simple pleasures. Handles are a bit narrow for larger hands. Makes a lovely breakfast-in-bed tray. Happy with it, with a few caveats.

Gave one to my in-laws and they display it proudly. It looks lovely on the dresser. Shipping took a bit longer than the estimate. Good enough that I’d buy another.

A friend recommended this shop and I see why. The ocean turtle artwork is the reason I clicked. It’s found a permanent spot in the house. The canvas had a faint mark from the printing on one edge. Would buy again; the notes are minor.

I saw this on the shop page and couldn’t talk myself out of it. Good quality drills with clean edges, not chipped. The final result has a nice depth to it. The wax ran out before I finished and I had to use my own. The sea turtle colors are richer than the photos show. Overall happy, just a few small things.

Bought it as a starter kit for myself and it worked out great. Makes a lovely breakfast-in-bed tray. A few bags weren’t labeled as clearly as the rest. I’d recommend it with that one note.

Bought this to do with my daughter on rainy days. The wood is thick and finished smoothly, no splinters anywhere. I found the repetition genuinely calming rather than tedious. You’ll want to seal it yourself if you’re putting wet glasses on it. Gave one as a housewarming gift and it was a favorite. Good kit overall, just a couple of small things.

Picked this up for our coffee table and it ties the room together. I’m really proud of how it turned out. It’s slightly heavier than I expected. Worth buying, just plan for those small quirks.

The wood base makes this feel like real decor. Each color was packed generously, I had plenty to spare. A few bags weren’t labeled as clearly as the rest. I worked on it while the kids did homework. It’s practical and it looks good doing the job. Still a solid purchase.

I picked this up on a whim and ended up really enjoying it. The final result has a nice depth to it. You’ll want to seal it yourself if you’ll set wet glasses on it. The sea turtle motif makes it feel special. Small issues, but nothing that would stop me ordering again.

Second time ordering this style, still happy with it. The tray has real weight to it, feels like serveware. The drilled panel sits slightly proud of the rim. I listened to a podcast and the time went by without noticing. Happy with it, with a few caveats.

  13. Theo B. –

Heavier and nicer in person than it looked online. Nothing arrived damaged, and everything was sealed properly. Holds two mugs and a plate easily. There were slightly more drills than needed, so it took longer than planned. Still worth it overall.

  14. Rob Harding (verified owner) –

This one took a bit more time and was worth it. Colors are distinct enough that I never mixed two shades up. It turned into something I actually want to display, not shove in a drawer. Instructions were pretty minimal, though there are plenty of tutorials online. I’d recommend it with that one note.

Something about a functional project makes it more satisfying. Gave one as a housewarming gift and it was a favorite. Took me a while to get the hang of the multi-placer tip. Happy with it, with one small caveat.

Really nice kit, especially for the money. The sea turtle subject is rendered with more detail than I expected. Each color was packed generously, I had plenty to spare. Really relaxing to do in the evening instead of scrolling. The packaging was a little crushed on one corner. Really nice piece to have out when people come over. Would order again despite the small issues.

  17. Margie Schmidt (verified owner) –

This is a genuinely nice kit for the money. Wood feels solid, much better than the thin pressed board I’ve seen. Not something I’d put in the dishwasher or soak, obviously. I like having something mindful to do that doesn’t need a screen. Still a good kit overall.

  18. Courtney Freeman (verified owner) –

My sister got me into these and this is my latest one. The handles are cut comfortably and easy to grip. I do a section after work with a cup of tea and it’s a nice way to unwind. The wood arrived with one small scuff on the side. Really happy with the end result. Worth buying, just plan for those small quirks.

  19. Ted Manning (verified owner) –

Bought it as a housewarming gift and it was a hit. I can carry a full mug without worrying about the handles. I’d have liked it a size larger. Surprisingly calming, even for someone with a short attention span. The finished piece looks far better than I expected. Still a good kit overall.

Made this for our coffee table and get compliments on it constantly. Extra drills were included for every color, which I appreciated. It’s slightly heavier than I expected. It’s satisfying to watch a section fill in. Makes a lovely breakfast-in-bed tray. Would recommend it with those notes.

  21. Brendan Pennington –

Ordered two kits, this was the one I finished first. The ocean turtle motif makes it feel special. The packaging arrived a little dented. I use it for serving when we have guests and it always gets noticed. Still a solid purchase.

  22. Bill Graham (verified owner) –

Bought it for the guest room and it looks lovely there. Everything was bagged and labeled, so setup took five minutes. Colors match the listing photo really closely. I brought it on a week at the lake and finished most of it there. Handles are a bit narrow for larger hands. I use it for serving when we have people over. Minor quibbles aside, I’d buy it again.

  23. Hannah Olson (verified owner) –

This was a fun change of pace from the usual canvas kits. The wax and pen that came with it worked fine right out of the box. I work on it while listening to an audiobook and the time just disappears. The sorting tray is shallow, drills spill out if you’re not careful. This one might be my favorite finish yet. Still a good kit overall.

  24. Dolores Dahl (verified owner) –

This was a fun change of pace from the usual canvas kits. It reads as a deliberate design choice, not a craft. The ocean turtle palette works really well with the design. One bag of drills had come open in transit. Worth it despite the small things.

I bought this to organize my nightstand and it looks lovely. Everything was bagged and labeled, so setup took five minutes. It sits by the door catching keys and mail. The packaging was a little crushed on one corner. Still a solid purchase.

Bought this to hold the remotes and it’s a huge improvement. The surface is flat and level, glasses don’t wobble. It’s become the anchor of the nightstand. Handles are a bit narrow for larger hands. Good kit overall, just a couple of small things.
