Why This Mandala Tray Earns Its Place on the Table

Here the Mandala motif is built around a symmetrical mandala built in concentric rings, each band moving from geometric spokes to fine petal work toward the outer edge, carried by balanced jewel tones on a deep ground so the symmetry stays legible. The result reads as focused and meditative — considered rather than busy. Mandala work is chosen as much for the doing as the result — the symmetry turns placement into a ritual. It is aimed at hosts who care about what the food arrives on. Designed for meditation corners and home studios, it holds up as decor rather than as something you finish and put in a drawer. Reference CP09-1. Working a mandala ring by ring is the most repetitive version of this craft, and the repetition is the point Which keeps the design honest about what it is.

mandala work is chosen as much for the doing as the result — the symmetry turns placement into a ritual. Which is the reason it works as well in meditation corners and home studios as it does anywhere else.

A DOTZSO tray is meant to be worked at an easy pace and then actually used to carry things. Box contents run to the printed wooden tray, DOTZSO resin drills, a tray, a comfort-grip pen, a wax caddy and a pictorial reference sheet.

The drilled face gets the attention, but the construction does the work. Solid tray body, seated drills, sealed surface.

Working the base in full drill is what makes the tray look made rather than part-finished.

What’s in the Box

  • 1 × printed wooden tray with cut-in handles
  • DOTZSO signature resin drills, sorted by colour (with extra drills included)
  • Diamond painting tray
  • Comfort-grip applicator pen
  • Wax caddy
  • Pictorial step-by-step instructions

How to Make It

  1. Lay the printed tray face flat and let it settle before starting.
  2. Find the legend strip and match the first symbol to its drill colour.
  3. Press the pen tip into the wax caddy, then touch it to a drill – the drill lifts and stays on the tip.
  4. Set the drill onto the matching printed symbol and press lightly. Work one colour block at a time rather than across the whole tray.
  5. Continue until the face is covered, then press the finished surface flat with a book for an hour to seat every drill.
  6. Seal the surface fully before the tray goes into service, or the drills will lift under a plate.

Work through it gradually, then put the finished tray into rotation.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are the tools for the Mandala wooden tray kit included as well as the project?

Yes. The Mandala wooden tray kit ships complete with the wooden tray and cut-in handles; you drill the printed face and then the tray goes into service, plus the DOTZSO resin drills, tray, applicator pen, wax caddy and pictorial instructions. Nothing else needs sourcing. Reference CP09-1.

How long will the Mandala finish last with normal use?

Once the drills are seated and the surface is sealed, the Mandala design holds under normal use. The surface is sealed, so it handles mugs and plates in normal use. Very hot pans straight from the hob are another matter — use a trivet, and the sealing step is the single biggest factor in how long the finish lasts. It is a working finish rather than a display-only one.

What care keeps the Mandala design at its best?

Wipe with a damp cloth and dry immediately. Do not submerge it or put it through a dishwasher — the adhesive layer under the drills is not built for a soak. For the Mandala palette, balanced jewel tones on a deep ground so the symmetry stays legible tones show dust less than pale grounds, so a light pass is usually enough. A soft brush reaches the texture between drills.

Is the Mandala design worked edge to edge?

The face is drilled across the whole surface, so the finished tray has complete coverage without bare wood showing. The Mandala artwork is drawn so that a symmetrical mandala built in concentric rings reads clearly at any distance. The Mandala surface is treated as one complete unit.

How long does the Mandala wooden tray kit take for a beginner?

Plan for a few sessions rather than one. Working a single colour block at a time is faster than moving across the tray at random. The Mandala design is focused and meditative, which tends to make it easier to work in short sessions. Progress on the Mandala piece is visibly steady.

Does the Mandala wooden tray kit come in multiple sizes?

The range covers 7.8 × 11.8 in, 9.8 × 13.8 in and 12.2 × 16.1 in, so there is a format for a bedside table or a full dinner service. Reference CP09-1.

I’ve tried a few brands and this one holds up well. Great gift for anyone who likes hosting. Wish it came with a protective finish already applied. Minor things, but I’d still buy it again.

Made one for my sister and now she wants the kit too. Finished piece looks even better in person than in the listing photos. There were slightly more drills than needed, so it took longer than planned. Overall a good experience.

This tray kit felt like a real step up from the flat canvases. Looks beautiful on the coffee table with a candle on it. Not something I’d put in the dishwasher or soak, obviously. Worth buying, just plan for those small quirks.

I’ve tried a few brands and this one holds up well. I keep remotes and coasters on mine when it’s not in use. Not something I’d put in the dishwasher or soak, obviously. I’d recommend it with that one note.

Heavier and nicer in person than it looked online. Handles are sturdy, I can carry a full mug without worrying. I brought it on a week at the lake and finished most of it there. Definitely recommend giving it a try.

The wood base is much sturdier than I expected. The drills clicked into place without needing much pressure. A couple of the darker shades were hard to tell apart. The repetitive motion is oddly satisfying, one of those simple pleasures. Overall happy, just a few small things.

The handles make it feel like real serveware, not just a craft. The kit included more than enough drills for the full design. It’s slightly heavier than I expected. I finished it faster than I expected because I kept coming back to it. Happy with it despite the small stuff.

I’ve wanted a tray like this for a while. It’s practical and it looks good doing the job. The corners collect a little dust that’s fiddly to reach. Would recommend it with those notes.

I use mine every morning for coffee. The base is flat and doesn’t rock on the table. Everything was bagged and labeled, so setup took five minutes. I did it in short bursts and it never felt rushed. It looks lovely on the dresser. Solid choice, no regrets.

I added this to my cart at 11pm and had zero regrets the next morning. The rim is deep enough to actually hold things. Instructions were pretty minimal, though there are plenty of tutorials online. It’s easy to pick up and put down, which suits my schedule. It looks like a piece of decor, not a storage solution.
