Why This Dog Set Earns Its Place on the Table

A Dog study built on a dog seated facing outward, ears relaxed, coat textured in layered strokes with the muzzle and eyes worked in finer detail. The palette stays in warm tans and creams with darker shading at the ears and back, and the piece keeps a warm and loyal register throughout. A dog portrait is one of the few decorations a household will keep permanently, which is why the detailing matters. It fits anyone who wants a handmade set without the upkeep ceramics demand. Designed for entryways and family rooms, it holds up as decor rather than as something you finish and put in a drawer. Reference BD666. a dog portrait is one of the few decorations a household will keep permanently, which is why the detailing matters. That is the part that matters most here.

a dog portrait is one of the few decorations a household will keep permanently, which is why the detailing matters. Placed in entryways and family rooms, it reads as part of the room rather than an addition to it.

This is a DOTZSO set for anyone who wants a quiet hour and a practical result at the end of it. The set ships with a colour-printed canvas, DOTZSO resin drills, a sorting tray, a comfort-grip pen, a wax caddy and printed instructions.

The practical detail most sets miss is the backing. Cork here means a wet glass leaves no ring on the table beneath.

Consistent colour work across the 6 coasters is what makes the set look intentional.

What’s in the Box

  • 6 × anti-slip coaster with cork-backed base
  • 1 × display holder / stand
  • DOTZSO signature resin drills, sorted by colour (with extra drills included)
  • Diamond painting tray
  • Comfort-grip applicator pen
  • Wax caddy
  • Pictorial step-by-step instructions

How to Make It

  1. Unroll the canvas on a flat surface and let it settle under something weighted if it has been rolled tight.
  2. Find the legend strip and match the first symbol to its drill colour.
  3. Press the pen tip into the wax caddy, then touch it to a drill – the drill lifts and stays on the tip.
  4. Set the drill onto the matching printed symbol and press lightly. Work one coaster at a time rather than moving across the whole set.
  5. Complete all coasters, then press each finished surface flat with a book for an hour to seat every drill.
  6. Finally, leave the set on the table for a few hours before first use so the drills settle fully.

Take your time across the set, then put it straight into service on the table.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the Dog coaster set complete on arrival?

Yes. The Dog coaster set ships complete with the stand shown in the product images, so the coasters have somewhere to live when they are not in use, plus the DOTZSO resin drills, tray, applicator pen, wax caddy and pictorial instructions. Nothing else needs sourcing. Reference BD666.

Will the Dog surface keep its finish with regular contact?

Once the drills are seated and the surface is sealed, the Dog design holds under normal use. The cork-backed base is what stops condensation reaching the table, and the sealing step is the single biggest factor in how long the finish lasts. The sealing step at the end is what locks it in.

What should I avoid when cleaning the Dog design?

Wipe with a damp cloth and dry immediately. Do not submerge them or put them through a dishwasher — the adhesive layer under the drills is not built for a soak. For the Dog palette, warm tans and creams tones show dust less than pale grounds, so a light pass is usually enough. The Dog surface cleans up with minimal effort.

Is the Dog design full drill or partial drill?

The drilled finish and palette are matched across the whole set, but each coaster carries its own printed motif. The Dog artwork is drawn so that a dog seated facing outward reads clearly at any distance. There are no unworked sections on the Dog piece.

Does the Dog project take longer than expected?

Roughly 30 to 45 minutes each for most people, so a full set is a few evenings rather than one sitting. The Dog design is warm and loyal, which tends to make it easier to work in short sessions. The Dog pattern is easy to work in short bursts.

What would a beginner find tricky on the Dog design?

Yes. The symbol key is printed directly on the cork-backed base and the pictorial instructions walk through the whole process, so no prior diamond painting experience is needed. The Dog layout is warm and loyal, which helps on a first attempt. All parts are included as standard.

Exactly what the listing described, no surprises. Good weight to the materials, it doesn’t feel cheap. I wish the printed legend was a little bigger. It’s a slow, quiet hobby and I like that about it. Still worth it overall.

Got these for the kitchen table and they look so cute. Cork on the bottom plus the drill top makes them feel solid. The drills have a nice sparkle to them, not dull or flat. Great way to slow down at the end of a busy day. It fits perfectly with the decor in the front entry. One of the 6 coasters had a slightly off-center print. Still worth it overall.

  3. Katrina Estes (verified owner) –

I’ve had my eye on this design since last season. The base is thick enough that they don’t feel flimsy. The work never felt like a chore. They sit by the coffee maker and get used constantly. One color had a couple of misshapen drills, but spares covered it. Happy with it despite the small stuff.

  4. Pam French (verified owner) –

These are great for a first-timer, not intimidating at all. Everything felt well made, from the tools to the drills. A really enjoyable way to pass a rainy afternoon. There were slightly more drills than needed, so it took longer than planned. Mild quibbles, but a good purchase.

These are great for a first-timer, not intimidating at all. The end result made all the evenings worth it. I wish the box were sturdier for storage. Good kit overall, just a couple of small things.

  6. Melanie Blackburn (verified owner) –

Bought these to have on hand for last-minute hostess gifts. The overall look is clean and cohesive. The set is eight, which is more than I strictly needed. The dog motif is what drew me in. Worth buying, just plan for those small quirks.

  7. Jerome Baxter (verified owner) –

These little coasters are the perfect size for a quick project. They’re a hit whenever we have people over. Instructions were minimal, though it’s easy enough to figure out. Still glad I ordered it overall.

  8. Darla Wallace (verified owner) –

Bought a set to use at our lake house and ended up making all eight. They fit a standard mug or glass without overhang. One of the 6 coasters had a slightly off-center print. Happy with it despite the small stuff.

  9. Elizabeth Finch (verified owner) –

A set of coasters felt like the perfect bite-sized project. The cork backing is properly attached, not just glued on the edges. Really calming, repetitive work, and satisfying when a section is finished. One coaster was slightly thicker than the others. They stack away neatly when I want the table clear. The dog artwork is the reason I clicked. A good buy, with one or two caveats.

This one caught my eye and I’m glad it did. Using them on the patio table and they’ve held up fine. It only comes in sets, so I couldn’t buy a single extra. Small issues, but nothing that would stop me ordering again.

  11. Chloe Babcock –

These little coasters are the perfect size for a quick project. The set stacks neatly in the holder on the shelf. I work on it after dinner and it helps me switch off. The finished piece genuinely surprised me. Took a bit longer to arrive than I expected. Worth it despite the small things.

  12. Miranda Mcmahon –

Wasn’t sure what to expect, but I’m very happy with it. Each color was packed generously, I had plenty to spare. Everything felt well made, from the tools to the drills. I went with the puppy version and the colors are lovely. Genuinely peaceful to work on one row at a time. The adhesive picked up lint over the days I worked on it. We actually use them every day, not just display them. Would still recommend it.

  13. Norman Powell (verified owner) –

Perfect little kit – not overwhelming like a full canvas. Gave a set to my neighbor as a housewarming gift and she loved them. They’re a bit smaller than I pictured for a large tumbler. Minor things, but I’d still buy it again.

  14. Jack H. –

Got these for the kitchen table and they look so cute. The edges are finished cleanly, no rough spots. I work on it while listening to an audiobook and the time just disappears. There were slightly more drills than needed, so it took longer than planned. Made a set for my book club and everyone wanted the link. The holiday design is even prettier in person than in the photos. Happy with it, with a few caveats.

  15. Roy Sawyer –

My third kit from this shop and still really pleased. Cork on the bottom stops condensation from sticking them down. Made a set for my book club and everyone wanted the link. One coaster had a marginally off-center print. Overall a good experience.

  16. GardenClubGwen (verified owner) –

Was looking for a small diamond art project and these nailed it. Each one took me about three hours to finish, quicker than I expected. The drills came in labeled bags, which made sorting painless. They’re a bit smaller than I pictured for a large tumbler. Really relaxing to do in the evening instead of scrolling. They look lovely stacked in the holder on the coffee table. Happy enough that I’d buy another.

Bought this as a reward for getting through a busy stretch at work. Cork on the bottom stops condensation from sticking them down. I went with the dog version and the colors are lovely. Each color was in its own pouch, clearly numbered. I keep it by my chair and pick it up whenever I have a few minutes. The finished piece looks far more expensive than the kit cost. The cork on one had a small rough patch. Still a good kit overall.

  18. Karen V. –

Such a fun format – one coaster at a time, no big commitment. Packaging was tidy and nothing had spilled in transit. They’re a hit whenever we have people over. The edges could be sealed a bit better for daily use. Happy with it, with a few caveats.

Saw a finished version online and tracked down this kit the same day. I chose this one for the puppy look. A really satisfying project from start to finish. The cork on one had a small rough patch. Worth buying, just plan for those small quirks.

Perfect for when you want a finished project fast. Good weight to the materials, it doesn’t feel cheap. The dog palette works really well with the design. Wish the cork backing were a touch thicker. My daughter wants one now after seeing mine. A solid purchase with a couple of notes.
