Why This Dog Set Earns Its Place on the Table

A dog seated facing outward, ears relaxed, coat textured in layered strokes with the muzzle and eyes worked in finer detail forms the subject of this Dog piece, worked in warm tans and creams with darker shading at the ears and back. The character is warm and loyal, and it stays that way at any distance. A dog portrait is one of the few decorations a household will keep permanently, which is why the detailing matters. It suits a table that gets used every evening and hosts at weekends. Designed for entryways and family rooms, it holds up as decor rather than as something you finish and put in a drawer. Reference BD591. A dog portrait is one of the few decorations a household will keep permanently, which is why the detailing matters.

a dog portrait is one of the few decorations a household will keep permanently, which is why the detailing matters. That is what puts it at home in entryways and family rooms, with the warm tone of the colours carrying the room.

A DOTZSO kit is designed so the making is restful and the finished piece earns its place in the room. Alongside the canvas you get DOTZSO resin drills, a sorting tray, a comfort-grip applicator pen, a wax caddy and pictorial instructions.

What makes this a working set rather than a display piece is underneath – a cork backing that takes the moisture before it reaches the furniture.

Matched drills across all 6 pieces mean the set looks deliberate when stacked or spread out.

What’s in the Box

  • 6 × anti-slip coaster with cork-backed base
  • 1 × display holder / stand
  • DOTZSO signature resin drills, sorted by colour (with extra drills included)
  • Diamond painting tray
  • Comfort-grip applicator pen
  • Wax caddy
  • Pictorial step-by-step instructions

How to Make It

  1. Unroll the canvas on a flat surface and let it settle under something weighted if it has been rolled tight.
  2. Find the legend strip and match the first symbol to its drill colour.
  3. Press the pen tip into the wax caddy, then touch it to a drill – the drill lifts and stays on the tip.
  4. Set the drill onto the matching printed symbol and press lightly. Work one coaster at a time rather than moving across the whole set.
  5. Complete all coasters, then press each finished surface flat with a book for an hour to seat every drill.
  6. Finally, leave the set on the table for a few hours before first use so the drills settle fully.

Finish the set at an easy pace, then leave it on the table rather than boxing it up.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the coaster set complete as pictured, or are parts extra?

Yes. The Dog coaster set ships complete with the stand shown in the product images, so the coasters have somewhere to live when they are not in use, plus the DOTZSO resin drills, tray, applicator pen, wax caddy and pictorial instructions. Nothing else needs sourcing. Reference BD591.

Is the Dog piece reliable once finished?

Once the drills are seated and the surface is sealed, the Dog design holds under normal use. The cork-backed base is what stops condensation reaching the table, and the sealing step is the single biggest factor in how long the finish lasts. The bond across the Dog face is consistent throughout.

Does the Dog coaster set need dusting often?

Wipe with a damp cloth and dry immediately. Do not submerge them or put them through a dishwasher — the adhesive layer under the drills is not built for a soak. For the Dog palette, warm tans and creams tones show dust less than pale grounds, so a light pass is usually enough. A quick wipe is normally all the Dog piece needs.

Does the Dog coaster set have complete drill work?

The drilled finish and palette are matched across the whole set, but each coaster carries its own printed motif. The Dog artwork is drawn so that a dog seated facing outward reads clearly at any distance. All of the Dog face is drill-covered.

How does the Dog project break down time-wise?

Roughly 30 to 45 minutes each for most people, so a full set is a few evenings rather than one sitting. The Dog design is warm and loyal, which tends to make it easier to work in short sessions. The Dog piece is easy to spread over several sittings.

Is the Dog coaster set gentle enough for a newcomer?

Yes. The symbol key is printed directly on the cork-backed base and the pictorial instructions walk through the whole process, so no prior diamond painting experience is needed. The Dog layout is warm and loyal, which helps on a first attempt. All materials are included.

My third kit from this shop and still really pleased. I love how the autumn colors turned out. The drill shapes were clean, not many chipped or stuck-together pieces. The holder is a little loose, the coasters rattle when you move it. Did most of it over a long weekend and it was such a pleasant way to pass the time. Minor things, but I’d still buy it again.

These little coasters are the perfect size for a quick project. Nice thickness – not the flimsy cardboard kind. I’ve been doing it in the evenings with my partner, we take turns on sections. The holder doesn’t match the coasters exactly in finish. Still worth it overall.

  3. Gayle Fry (verified owner) –

Ordered it after seeing one a friend finished, and I get the appeal now. Each one took about an evening, quicker than I expected. The wax was a little stiff at first. Nice mindful work that keeps you present. Minor things, but I’d still buy it again.

  4. Wade Nichols (verified owner) –

These are my go-to when I want a small craft that still feels rewarding. The adhesive is plenty sticky, the drills stay exactly where I put them. I work on it while listening to an audiobook and the time just disappears. One bag of drills had come open in transit. Solid overall, just a couple of nitpicks.

I do these while dinner is in the oven. Great little time filler. Each coaster is a good thickness and feels sturdy in the hand. The holder is a little loose, the coasters rattle when you move it. I brought it on a week at the lake and finished most of it there. Still worth it overall.

  6. Antonio Vaughn –

Perfect for when you want a finished project fast. The artwork looks even better in person than the photos. I wish the box were sturdier for storage. It makes a lovely gift and arrives nicely packaged. Good enough that I’d buy another.

These were a housewarming gift and I nearly kept them. Everything felt well made, from the tools to the drills. They’ve survived a house full of guests without a mark. Wish the cork backing were a touch thicker. Would still recommend it.

  8. Teddy Jernigan –

These are great for a first-timer, not intimidating at all. I bring them out for guests and always get asked about them. They’re a bit smaller than I pictured for a large tumbler. Still a solid purchase.

I’ve tried a few brands and this one holds up well. I gave a set to my son’s teacher and she was thrilled. The holder is a bit loose so they rattle when moved. Still worth it overall.

  10. Nancy Mccall (verified owner) –

Bought a set for the camper and they’ve been great. The set stacks neatly in the drawer when not in use. The adhesive picked up lint over the days I worked on it. I do this instead of scrolling and feel much better for it. A good buy, with one or two caveats.

  11. Susanna Goff (verified owner) –

These are the first coasters I’ve made and I’m sold on the format. The holder keeps the set together and tidy. We actually use them every day, not just display them. Instructions were pretty minimal, though there are plenty of tutorials online. Worth it despite the small things.

  12. Everett Moreno (verified owner) –

I’ve bought from this shop a few times now and this is another good one. No missing colors and nothing short in the high-use shades. One of the 6 coasters had a slightly off-center print. Keeps my hands busy during long flights and hotel evenings. Minor quibbles aside, I’d buy it again.

  13. Howard Felton (verified owner) –

This was my first diamond painting kit and I’m officially hooked. The drills clicked into place without needing much pressure. The packaging was a little crushed on one corner. It’s easy to pick up and put down, which suits my schedule. Still a good kit overall.

  14. Blake Lang (verified owner) –

A friend wouldn’t stop talking about hers, so I finally ordered one. Finish is even and the whole thing looks tidy once you’re done. The packaging was a little crushed on one corner. It’s become the quiet part of my day that I look forward to. It came out better than the product photos suggested. Still a solid purchase.

I added this to my cart at 11pm and had zero regrets the next morning. Nice thickness – not the flimsy cardboard kind. This is the kind of craft that’s genuinely calming after a hectic day. The edges could be sealed a little better for daily use. Would recommend it with those notes.

Exactly what the listing described, no surprises. They’ve held up well to daily coffee and tea. Shipping took a bit longer than the estimate. Good enough that I’d buy another.

I do these while dinner is in the oven. Great little time filler. The cork keeps them from sticking to the table when there’s condensation. I do a section after work with a cup of tea and it’s a nice way to unwind. They’re a bit smaller than I pictured for a large tumbler. Still worth it overall.

I made one the first night just to see how it went, then did the rest over the week. Using them on the patio table and they’ve held up fine. Took a bit longer to arrive than I expected. Overall a good experience.

Second time ordering this style, still happy with it. Each one took me a weekend to finish, quicker than I expected. It’s the kind of project that feels creative without being stressful. The holder doesn’t match the coasters exactly in finish. Gave a set to my neighbor as a housewarming gift and she loved them. Still a solid purchase.

Bought a set for the camper and they’ve been great. Colors match the listing photo really closely. I’d have liked a slightly longer chart, but it was workable. They’re on the coffee table and get used every day. I’d order again, just knowing what to expect.

I wanted something I could finish in a sitting or two and these were it. The puppy artwork comes together beautifully as you work. Extra drills were included for every color, which I appreciated. It’s my go-to when I want something enjoyable that doesn’t take much thought. It makes a lovely gift and arrives nicely packaged. The wax ran out before I finished and I had to use my own. Happy enough that I’d buy another.

This showed up faster than I expected and I started it the same night. It turned into something I actually want to display, not shove in a drawer. Some colors had very few spare drills. Good kit overall, just a couple of small things.

Perfect little kit – not overwhelming like a full canvas. The wax and pen that came with it worked fine right out of the box. I do a section a night with a podcast on. The puppy detail is impressive up close. They sit by the coffee maker and get used constantly. Took me a while to get the hang of the multi-placer tip. I’d order again, just knowing what to expect.

I wanted something I could finish in a sitting or two and these were it. The drills sit nice and flush, no gaps showing the surface underneath. I worked on this during my lunch breaks and it made the days feel better. Great little housewarming gift. The edges could be sealed a bit better for daily use. Still a solid purchase.

Got these for the kitchen table and they look so cute. The cork base means no scratches on our wood table. The finished piece looks far better than I expected. The artwork looks even better in person than the photos. They’re a bit small for a large tumbler. Worth buying, just plan for those small quirks.

Not my first diamond painting, but one of my favorites. Each one took about an evening, quicker than I expected. One of the 6 coasters had a slightly off-center print. They’ve become part of the everyday routine here. Would still recommend it.

I like having a small kit that doesn’t take a month. They’re a nice size for a standard mug, and even a wider tumbler fits. The puppy pattern is what made me choose this one. My friends all want one now. The sorting tray is shallow, drills spill out if you’re not careful. I’d order again, just knowing what to expect.

  33. Maryann Brennan (verified owner) –

These are the perfect size to actually finish. Cork on the bottom plus the drill top makes them feel solid. Instructions were minimal, though it’s easy enough to figure out. I worked through this over a few weeks of evenings and loved it. Good kit overall, just a couple of small things.

  34. Travis Glass (verified owner) –

Picked this up to try something different and really enjoyed it. The finish on each coaster is consistent across the set. Nice mindful project – you can’t think about much else while you’re placing drills. The dog palette works really well with the design. The set is eight, which is more than I strictly needed. I keep them out for guests and always get asked about them. Minor quibbles aside, I’d buy it again.
