Why This Mushroom Set Earns Its Place on the Table

The subject here is a cluster of woodland mushrooms at varying heights, caps domed and gilled, ringed by moss, ferns and scattered leaf litter, set in earthy reds, ochres and deep greens with cream gills and stems. Rather than competing for attention, the piece holds a woodland and cosy tone. Mushroom imagery has moved from seasonal novelty to year-round decor, and the woodland palette is why. It is designed for regular use in a busy house, not occasional display. Designed for reading nooks and autumn styling, it holds up as decor rather than as something you finish and put in a drawer. Reference BD368-OPP. The gill detail under each cap uses fine line work that most kits skip — it is what sells the woodland realism.

mushroom imagery has moved from seasonal novelty to year-round decor, and the woodland palette is why. That makes it straightforward to place in reading nooks and autumn styling, where the woodland tone already fits.

Every DOTZSO diamond painting kit is built for people who want the make to feel calm and the result to be something they actually use. Contents: colour-printed canvas, DOTZSO resin drills, sorting tray, comfort-grip pen, wax caddy and illustrated step-by-step instructions.

The construction is deliberately simple: anti-slip body, cork backing, seated drill surface. That combination is what keeps the set out of a drawer.

The set runs to 6 coasters, each on the same cork-backed base for a consistent feel in the hand.

  • DOTZSO signature resin drills, sorted by colour (with extra drills included)
  • Diamond painting tray
  • Comfort-grip applicator pen
  • Wax caddy
  • Pictorial step-by-step instructions

How to Make It

  1. Unroll the canvas on a flat surface and let it settle under something weighted if it has been rolled tight.
  2. Find the legend strip and match the first symbol to its drill colour.
  3. Press the pen tip into the wax caddy, then touch it to a drill – the drill lifts and stays on the tip.
  4. Set the drill onto the matching printed symbol and press lightly. Work one coaster at a time rather than moving across the whole set.
  5. Complete all coasters, then press each finished surface flat with a book for an hour to seat every drill.
  6. Finally, leave the set on the table for a few hours before first use so the drills settle fully.

Complete the set over a few quiet evenings, then put it to work — these are made to be handled.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the coaster set shipped whole, or in parts to assemble yourself?

Yes. The Mushroom coaster set ships complete with the stand shown in the product images, so the coasters have somewhere to live when they are not in use, plus the DOTZSO resin drills, tray, applicator pen, wax caddy and pictorial instructions. Nothing else needs sourcing. Reference BD368-OPP.

Does the Mushroom coaster set stand up to being used rather than just displayed?

Once the drills are seated and the surface is sealed, the Mushroom design holds under normal use. The cork-backed base is what stops condensation reaching the table, and the sealing step is the single biggest factor in how long the finish lasts. Sealing is the step that decides the Mushroom finish’s lifespan.

What should I avoid when caring for the Mushroom design?

Wipe with a damp cloth and dry immediately. Do not submerge them or put them through a dishwasher — the adhesive layer under the drills is not built for a soak. For the Mushroom palette, earthy reds, ochres and deep greens tones show dust less than pale grounds, so a light pass is usually enough. A quick wipe is normally all the Mushroom piece needs.

Is the Mushroom design drilled uniformly across the face?

The drilled finish and palette are matched across the whole set, but each coaster carries its own printed motif. The Mushroom artwork is drawn so that a cluster of woodland mushrooms at varying heights reads clearly at any distance. The Mushroom artwork is fully drilled rather than partly printed.

Is the Mushroom design a slow project?

Roughly 30 to 45 minutes each for most people, so a full set is a few evenings rather than one sitting. The Mushroom design is woodland and cosy, which tends to make it easier to work in short sessions. The Mushroom design is paced, not rushed.

Can the Mushroom coaster set be completed without prior practice?

Yes. The symbol key is printed directly on the cork-backed base and the pictorial instructions walk through the whole process, so no prior diamond painting experience is needed. The Mushroom layout is woodland and cosy, which helps on a first attempt. The kit is complete on delivery.

Bought a set as a hostess gift and kept a set for myself. Finish is even and the whole thing looks tidy once you’re done. Nothing arrived damaged, and everything was sealed properly. The adhesive picked up a bit of dust while I was working over several days. Really calming, repetitive work, and satisfying when a section is finished. Would make a really nice gift, and it arrives boxed nicely. Happy with it, with a few caveats.

Bought it for a rainy weekend and it was exactly what I needed. Each coaster is a good thickness and feels sturdy in the hand. They’re a bit smaller than I pictured for a large tumbler. It’s a slow, quiet hobby and I like that about it. Still a solid purchase.

I grabbed these to have something small to work on in the evenings. Nothing arrived damaged, and everything was sealed properly. I did a section a night and looked forward to it each time. The holder is a little loose, the coasters rattle when you move it. I’d recommend it with that one note.

  4. Kristopher Sellers (verified owner) –

Bought these to replace a tired set and the upgrade is obvious. The set stacks neatly in the holder on the shelf. I like that it’s creative without requiring any decisions. It photographs well, which is a bonus for sharing. They’re a bit small for a large tumbler. Happy with it, with one small caveat.

  5. Juan Nicholson (verified owner) –

These are my go-to when I want a small craft that still feels rewarding. The cork backing keeps them from sliding and protects the table. I keep it set up on a side table and do a bit whenever I have ten minutes. Some colors came with barely any extras, though I didn’t run out. This one might be my favorite finish yet. Good enough that I’d buy another.

Picked this up because I wanted a hobby that didn’t involve a screen. The cork keeps them from sticking to the table when there’s condensation. The edges could be sealed a bit better for daily use. Everyone who comes over picks one up to look at it. Still a good kit overall.

  7. Clifford Burns (verified owner) –

These are the perfect size to actually finish. The cork backing is a nice touch, they don’t slide around on the table. The wax ran low before I finished the last section. It became my end-of-day wind-down. It’s the kind of thing guests notice right away. Still worth it overall.

I added this to my cart at 11pm and had zero regrets the next morning. The finished piece looks far better than I expected. I’d prefer slightly thicker cork on the base. I’d order again, just knowing what to expect.

These are the perfect size to actually finish. Colors matched the numbers exactly, so there was no guessing. Each color was in its own pouch, clearly numbered. I do a section a night with a podcast on. The cottagecore palette works really well with the design. Definitely ordering more as gifts. The holder finish doesn’t quite match the coasters. Still a good kit overall.

I bought two sets so I could gift one and keep one. They make the whole table look more put together. One color had a couple of misshapen drills, but spares covered it. Still glad I ordered it overall.

  11. Ariana Steele (verified owner) –

Bought this after finishing my last kit and it was a good call. Each coaster is a good thickness and feels sturdy in the hand. It’s the kind of project that feels creative without being stressful. We actually use them every day, not just display them. They’re a bit small for a large tumbler. Worth buying, just plan for those small quirks.

Perfect little kit – not overwhelming like a full canvas. The sparkle on these drills is genuinely nice. The chart was large enough to read without squinting. The set is eight, which is more than I strictly needed. A really enjoyable way to pass a rainy afternoon. A useful gift that people actually keep out. Still worth it overall.

  13. Rochelle Howard –

Bought these for our patio table and they look charming. The adhesive is plenty sticky, the drills stay exactly where I put them. The packaging arrived a little dented. The mushroom motif makes it feel special. They sit by the coffee maker and get used constantly. Minor things, but I’d still buy it again.

Got these for the kitchen table and they look so cute. There were extra drills left over in every color when I finished. They sit by the coffee maker and get used constantly. One coaster had a marginally off-center print. I’d order again, just knowing what to expect.

Bought these for our patio table and they look charming. Each one took about an evening, quicker than I expected. They sit by the coffee maker and get used constantly. Only small gripe is that a few drills had little burrs on them. A solid purchase with a couple of notes.

I grabbed these to have something small to work on in the evenings. Each color was packed generously, I had plenty to spare. Perfect for a cozy evening in when you want to keep your hands busy. The holder is a little loose, the coasters rattle when you move it. Everyone who sees it asks how long it took. Still a solid purchase.

These are the perfect size to actually finish. Plenty of margin around the edges for framing or trimming. They’re a bit smaller than I pictured for a large tumbler. Great way to slow down at the end of a busy day. I’d recommend it with that one note.

I do these while dinner is in the oven. Great little time filler. Each one took about an evening, quicker than I expected. It makes a lovely gift and arrives nicely packaged. I’d have liked a slightly longer chart, but it was workable. I’d recommend it with that one note.

I do these while dinner is in the oven. Great little time filler. Everyone who sees it asks how long it took. The adhesive picked up lint over the days I worked on it. The mushroom detail is impressive up close. Would recommend it with those notes.

Such a fun format – one coaster at a time, no big commitment. Already ordered another one from DOTZSO. Some colors came with barely any extras, though I didn’t run out. I’d recommend it with that one note.

Ordered it after seeing one a friend finished, and I get the appeal now. The autumn pattern is what drew me in and it didn’t disappoint. The adhesive picked up a bit of dust while I was working over several days. Colors match the listing photo really closely. Everyone who comes over picks one up to look at it. Good kit overall, just a couple of small things.

I needed a screen-free hobby and this fit the bill. The drills sit nice and flush, no gaps showing the surface underneath. It’s my go-to when I need a quiet evening. Only small gripe is that a few drills had little burrs on them. A solid purchase with a couple of notes.

These are the perfect size to actually finish. They’re a nice size for a standard mug, and even a wider tumbler fits. Keeps my hands busy while I watch something. The holder finish doesn’t quite match the coasters. Great little housewarming gift. Minor things, but I’d still buy it again.

I needed a screen-free hobby and this fit the bill. The cork keeps them from sticking to the table when there’s condensation. It’s a lovely quiet hobby, and I like having something to show for it at the end. The wax ran out before I finished and I had to use my own. If this style appeals to you, it delivers. I’ll be buying more from this shop. Small issues, but nothing that would stop me ordering again.

These are my go-to when I want a small craft that still feels rewarding. The cork base means no scratches on our wood table. The cottagecore element makes it feel personal. I wish the box were sturdier for storage. They’ve held up without a single scratch. Still a good kit overall.
