Why This Mushroom Set Earns Its Place on the Table

This one works a cluster of woodland mushrooms at varying heights, caps domed and gilled, ringed by moss, ferns and scattered leaf litter into a Mushroom composition, coloured in earthy reds, ochres and deep greens with cream gills and stems. The effect is woodland and cosy and unfussy. Mushroom imagery has moved from seasonal novelty to year-round decor, and the woodland palette is why. It is for makers who prefer a project with an obvious job at the end. Designed for reading nooks and autumn styling, it holds up as decor rather than as something you finish and put in a drawer. Reference BD653. The gill detail under each cap uses fine line work that most kits skip — it is what sells the woodland realism That is the detail that separates this from a generic Mushroom print.

mushroom imagery has moved from seasonal novelty to year-round decor, and the woodland palette is why. It is why the piece settles into reading nooks and autumn styling without needing the rest of the scheme to match it.

DOTZSO builds these kits for slow evenings, with a finish good enough to leave out on the table. Box contents run to a colour-printed canvas, DOTZSO resin drills, a tray, a comfort-grip pen, a wax caddy and a pictorial reference sheet.

Nothing here is decorative-only. The base grips, the cork absorbs, and the drill surface is pressed flat so it survives ordinary use.

The 6-piece format covers seating for a full table without buying twice.

  • DOTZSO signature resin drills, sorted by colour (with extra drills included)
  • Diamond painting tray
  • Comfort-grip applicator pen
  • Wax caddy

How to Make It

  1. Unroll the canvas on a flat surface and let it settle under something weighted if it has been rolled tight.
  2. Find the legend strip and match the first symbol to its drill colour.
  3. Press the pen tip into the wax caddy, then touch it to a drill – the drill lifts and stays on the tip.
  4. Set the drill onto the matching printed symbol and press lightly. Work one coaster at a time rather than moving across the whole set.
  5. Complete all coasters, then press each finished surface flat with a book for an hour to seat every drill.
  6. Finally, leave the set on the table for a few hours before first use so the drills settle fully.

Work through it gradually, then let the finished coasters take their place in daily use.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are there any components of this coaster set I have to source myself?

Yes. The Mushroom coaster set ships complete with the stand shown in the product images, so the coasters have somewhere to live when they are not in use, plus the DOTZSO resin drills, tray, applicator pen, wax caddy and pictorial instructions. Nothing else needs sourcing. Reference BD653.

Is the Mushroom coaster set built to be handled, or is it delicate?

Once the drills are seated and the surface is sealed, the Mushroom design holds under normal use. The cork-backed base is what stops condensation reaching the table, and the sealing step is the single biggest factor in how long the finish lasts. The main variable is how well the final sealing pass is done.

What is the right way to care for the Mushroom coaster set?

Wipe with a damp cloth and dry immediately. Do not submerge them or put them through a dishwasher — the adhesive layer under the drills is not built for a soak. For the Mushroom palette, earthy reds, ochres and deep greens tones show dust less than pale grounds, so a light pass is usually enough. Dry immediately after any damp wipe.

How complete is the coverage on the Mushroom design?

The drilled finish and palette are matched across the whole set, but each coaster carries its own printed motif. The Mushroom artwork is drawn so that a cluster of woodland mushrooms at varying heights reads clearly at any distance. The Mushroom surface is evenly worked throughout.

Is the Mushroom coaster set a big time commitment?

Roughly 30 to 45 minutes each for most people, so a full set is a few evenings rather than one sitting. The Mushroom design is woodland and cosy, which tends to make it easier to work in short sessions. It is a comfortable multi-session project.

Is the Mushroom coaster set gentle enough for a newcomer?

Yes. The symbol key is printed directly on the cork-backed base and the pictorial instructions walk through the whole process, so no prior diamond painting experience is needed. The Mushroom layout is woodland and cosy, which helps on a first attempt. The kit includes everything needed to start.

I’ve tried a few brands and this one holds up well. Glue coverage was even, no dry patches anywhere. They’re a bit smaller than I pictured for a large tumbler. I brought it on a week at the lake and finished most of it there. The colors work beautifully with the room. Good kit overall, just a couple of small things.

Perfect little kit – not overwhelming like a full canvas. The edges are finished cleanly, no rough spots. Wish the cork backing were a touch thicker. Using them on the patio table and they’ve held up fine. Happy enough that I’d buy another.

  3. Marcella Gay (verified owner) –

Bought this after finishing my last kit and it was a good call. The cork backing is a nice touch, they don’t slide around on the table. I worked on it while the kids did homework. The holder doesn’t match the coasters exactly in finish. Would still recommend it.

These were a nice little project to knock out over a week. The sparkle on these drills is genuinely nice. They’re a bit smaller than I pictured for a large tumbler. I do it at the kitchen table while dinner simmers. They’ve held up well to daily coffee and tea. Small things aside, it’s a good buy.

Came quickly and was packaged really well. Finished piece looks even better in person than in the listing photos. It’s a charming mushroom piece and everyone comments on it. Took a bit longer to arrive than I expected. Good kit overall, just a couple of small things.

  6. Marcus D. –

These are my go-to when I want a small craft that still feels rewarding. Great value for what you get. The sorting tray is shallow, drills spill out if you’re not careful. Happy enough that I’d buy another.

I’ve been doing these for about a year and this is a solid kit. I gave a set to my son’s teacher and she was thrilled. Took a bit longer to arrive than I expected. Still worth it overall.

  8. Robbie Gifford (verified owner) –

These were a housewarming gift and I nearly kept them. The cork base means no scratches on our wood table. The finished work looks considered, not like a craft project. One of the 6 coasters had a slightly off-center print. Still a good kit overall.

Small enough to take along on a trip. The cottagecore detail is impressive up close. They make the whole table look more put together. The holder doesn’t match the coasters exactly in finish. A solid purchase with a couple of notes.

  10. Keith Lin (verified owner) –

Ordered this on a quiet Sunday and it arrived faster than expected. They stack away neatly when I want the table clear. The edges could be sealed a bit better for daily use. If you like cottagecore designs, this is a good example. Minor gripes aside, I’d buy it again.

Such a nice little project to have on the go. The drills are bright and consistent in size, no weird off-color batches. I work on it while listening to an audiobook and the time just disappears. The edges could be sealed a bit better for daily use. The mushroom detail comes together really nicely once it’s finished. I’d recommend it with that one note.

  12. Angela Stevens (verified owner) –

These are the first coasters I’ve made and I’m sold on the format. The edges are smooth, so nothing catches on a cloth when I wipe them. The holder is a little loose, the coasters rattle when you move it. I worked on this during my lunch breaks and it made the days feel better. Still glad I ordered it overall.

  13. Theodore Krueger (verified owner) –

Came across this while looking for craft ideas and bought it that day. The holder keeps the set together and tidy. They’ve held up well to daily coffee and tea. They’re a bit small for a large tumbler. I’d order it again knowing what I know now.

  14. Daniela C. (verified owner) –

These are my go-to when I want a small craft that still feels rewarding. Everyone who comes over picks one up to look at it. The adhesive picked up a bit of dust while I was working over several days. Happy enough that I’d buy another.

Was looking for something to do with my hands in the evenings. I bring them out for guests and always get asked about them. Some colors came with barely any extras, though I didn’t run out. Still worth it overall.

  16. Xavier H. (verified owner) –

Bought it for a rainy weekend and it was exactly what I needed. Made a set for my book club and everyone wanted the link. The pen that came with it is a bit flimsy, I swapped in my own. I’d recommend it with that one note.

  17. Dwayne Edwards (verified owner) –

Been eyeing this one for a while and finally pulled the trigger. Nothing was damaged in shipping and the packaging was neat. The sorting tray is shallow, drills spill out if you’re not careful. I like having something mindful to do that doesn’t need a screen. Happy with it, with a few caveats.

  18. Lucille Snow (verified owner) –

Bought a set as a hostess gift and kept a set for myself. The cork keeps them from sticking to the table when there’s condensation. Instructions were pretty minimal, though there are plenty of tutorials online. Perfect for slow evenings when you don’t want more screen time. My friends all want one now. Minor things, but I’d still buy it again.

Been eyeing this one for a while and finally pulled the trigger. The release paper peeled back cleanly without tearing. The tray was smaller than I’d like for a big session. They fit a standard mug or glass without overhang. Happy with it despite the small stuff.

  20. Jeffery Conrad (verified owner) –

Second time ordering this style, still happy with it. The drills sit flush, so glasses don’t wobble on top. The holder is a bit loose so they rattle when moved. The mushroom element makes it feel personal. I spread it over a week and enjoyed every session. Worth buying, just plan for those small quirks.

These were a housewarming gift and I nearly kept them. The drills sit flush, so glasses don’t wobble on top. Shipping took a few days longer than I expected. The finished piece has real presence. Mild quibbles, but a good purchase.

These little coasters are the perfect size for a quick project. The cork base means no scratches on our wood table. The colors are true to the listing photos. The wax ran out before I finished and I had to use my own. I take it to my book club and work on it while we chat. They’ve held up without a single scratch. Would order again despite the small issues.
