Why This Abstract Set Earns Its Place on the Table
The subject here is overlapping colour fields drifting across the canvas, with soft edges where one tone bleeds into the next and a single line of movement threading through, set in muted terracotta, dusty blue and soft graphite resolved against an off-white ground. Rather than competing for attention, the piece holds a modern and understated tone. Abstract canvases are the safest gift in this craft: they suit any room and carry no subject-matter risk. It fits anyone who wants a handmade set without the upkeep ceramics demand. Designed for contemporary interiors, it holds up as decor rather than as something you finish and put in a drawer. Reference BD448. Because there is no motif to resolve, abstract work lets the eye rest — it decorates without asking to be studied That is the detail that separates this from a generic Abstract print.
abstract canvases are the safest gift in this craft: they suit any room and carry no subject-matter risk. That is what puts it at home in contemporary interiors, with the modern tone of the colours carrying the room.
A DOTZSO kit is designed so the making is restful and the finished piece earns its place in the room. Alongside the canvas you get DOTZSO resin drills, a sorting tray, a comfort-grip applicator pen, a wax caddy and pictorial instructions.
What makes this a working set rather than a display piece is underneath – a cork backing that takes the moisture before it reaches the furniture.
Matched drills across all 8 pieces mean the set looks deliberate when stacked or spread out.

How to Make It
- Unroll the canvas on a flat surface and let it settle under something weighted if it has been rolled tight.
- Find the legend strip and match the first symbol to its drill colour.
- Press the pen tip into the wax caddy, then touch it to a drill – the drill lifts and stays on the tip.
- Set the drill onto the matching printed symbol and press lightly. Work one coaster at a time rather than moving across the whole set.
- Complete all coasters, then press each finished surface flat with a book for an hour to seat every drill.
- Finally, leave the set on the table for a few hours before first use so the drills settle fully.
Finish the set at an easy pace, then leave it on the table rather than boxing it up.
Frequently Asked Questions
Are the tools for the Abstract coaster set included as well as the project?
Yes. The Abstract coaster set ships complete with the stand shown in the product images, so the coasters have somewhere to live when they are not in use, plus the DOTZSO resin drills, tray, applicator pen, wax caddy and pictorial instructions. Nothing else needs sourcing. Reference BD448.
Does the Abstract finish stay intact under regular use?
Once the drills are seated and the surface is sealed, the Abstract design holds under normal use. The cork-backed base is what stops condensation reaching the table, and the sealing step is the single biggest factor in how long the finish lasts. It is a working finish rather than a display-only one.
What care keeps the Abstract design at its best?
Wipe with a damp cloth and dry immediately. Do not submerge them or put them through a dishwasher — the adhesive layer under the drills is not built for a soak. For the Abstract palette, muted terracotta, dusty blue and soft graphite resolved against an off-white ground tones show dust less than pale grounds, so a light pass is usually enough. A soft brush reaches the texture between drills.
Does the Abstract design leave any part untreated?
The drilled finish and palette are matched across the whole set, but each coaster carries its own printed motif. The Abstract artwork is drawn so that overlapping colour fields drifting across the canvas reads clearly at any distance. The Abstract surface is treated as one complete unit.
How long does the Abstract coaster set take for a beginner?
Roughly 30 to 45 minutes each for most people, so a full set is a few evenings rather than one sitting. The Abstract design is modern and understated, which tends to make it easier to work in short sessions. Progress on the Abstract piece is visibly steady.
Is the Abstract project a good place to start?
Yes. The symbol key is printed directly on the cork-backed base and the pictorial instructions walk through the whole process, so no prior diamond painting experience is needed. The Abstract layout is modern and understated, which helps on a first attempt. The set is complete as shipped.
