Why This Blue Ocean Set Earns Its Place on the Table

Deep ocean water with surface swells, layered from bright surface to dark depth, with light breaking through forms the subject of this Blue Ocean piece, worked in graded blues from bright aqua at the surface to near-navy in the depths. The character is deep and immersive, and it stays that way at any distance. Single-tone ocean pieces suit modern interiors where a multicolour scene would clash. It is for makers who prefer a project with an obvious job at the end. Designed for bathrooms and modern interiors, it holds up as decor rather than as something you finish and put in a drawer. Reference BD500. The depth gradation runs across the whole canvas rather than in bands, which is what makes the water feel continuous That is the detail that separates this from a generic Blue Ocean print.

single-tone ocean pieces suit modern interiors where a multicolour scene would clash. In bathrooms and modern interiors the piece holds its own against the surrounding colour rather than fighting it.

Every DOTZSO diamond painting kit is built for people who want the make to feel calm and the result to be something they actually use. Contents: colour-printed canvas, DOTZSO resin drills, sorting tray, comfort-grip pen, wax caddy and illustrated step-by-step instructions.

The construction is deliberately simple: anti-slip body, cork backing, seated drill surface. That combination is what keeps the set out of a drawer.

The set runs to 8 coasters, each on the same cork-backed base for a consistent feel in the hand.

What’s in the Box

  • 8 × anti-slip coaster with cork-backed base
  • 1 × display holder / stand
  • DOTZSO signature resin drills, sorted by colour (with extra drills included)
  • Diamond painting tray
  • Comfort-grip applicator pen
  • Wax caddy
  • Pictorial step-by-step instructions

How to Make It

  1. Unroll the canvas on a flat surface and let it settle under something weighted if it has been rolled tight.
  2. Find the legend strip and match the first symbol to its drill colour.
  3. Press the pen tip into the wax caddy, then touch it to a drill – the drill lifts and stays on the tip.
  4. Set the drill onto the matching printed symbol and press lightly. Work one coaster at a time rather than moving across the whole set.
  5. Complete all coasters, then press each finished surface flat with a book for an hour to seat every drill.
  6. Finally, leave the set on the table for a few hours before first use so the drills settle fully.

Complete the set over a few quiet evenings, then put it to work — these are made to be handled.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the coaster set ready to use straight away?

Yes. The Ocean coaster set ships complete with the stand shown in the product images, so the coasters have somewhere to live when they are not in use, plus the DOTZSO resin drills, tray, applicator pen, wax caddy and pictorial instructions. Nothing else needs sourcing. Reference BD500.

Does the Ocean coaster set resist normal wear and tear?

Once the drills are seated and the surface is sealed, the Ocean design holds under normal use. The cork-backed base is what stops condensation reaching the table, and the sealing step is the single biggest factor in how long the finish lasts. Regular use does not compromise the Ocean surface.

Can the Ocean coaster set be cleaned with a soft brush?

Wipe with a damp cloth and dry immediately. Do not submerge them or put them through a dishwasher — the adhesive layer under the drills is not built for a soak. For the Ocean palette, turquoise shifting to deep teal, tones show dust less than pale grounds, so a light pass is usually enough. Keep it out of prolonged direct sun to hold the Ocean colours.

How even is the coverage on the Ocean coaster set?

The drilled finish and palette are matched across the whole set, but each coaster carries its own printed motif. The Ocean artwork is drawn so that breaking waves rolling toward a shallow shore reads clearly at any distance. The Ocean artwork is fully drilled rather than partly printed.

What time should I allow for the Ocean design?

Roughly 30 to 45 minutes each for most people, so a full set is a few evenings rather than one sitting. The Ocean design is cool and restorative, which tends to make it easier to work in short sessions. Work it a colour at a time and the Ocean piece moves quickly.

Is the Ocean project simple enough to learn on?

Yes. The symbol key is printed directly on the cork-backed base and the pictorial instructions walk through the whole process, so no prior diamond painting experience is needed. The Ocean layout is cool and restorative, which helps on a first attempt. There is no follow-up order to make.

Bought a set to use at our lake house and ended up making all eight. Nice thickness – not the flimsy cardboard kind. It’s the kind of project that feels creative without being stressful. I gave a set to my son’s teacher and she was thrilled. They’re a bit smaller than I pictured for a large tumbler. Minor things, but I’d still buy it again.

Ordered two of these and gave one away as a gift. They get used every single day at our house. The tropical artwork comes together beautifully as you work. Instructions were pretty minimal, though there are plenty of tutorials online. Minor gripes aside, I’d buy it again.

Bought a set to use at our lake house and ended up making all eight. Nothing arrived damaged, and everything was sealed properly. Some colors came with barely any extras, though I didn’t run out. Great way to slow down at the end of a busy day. Made a set for my book club and everyone wanted the link. Happy enough that I’d buy another.

A set of coasters felt like the perfect bite-sized project. Using them on the patio table and they’ve held up fine. One of the 8 coasters had a slightly off-center print. Happy with it, with one small caveat.

  5. Justin W. (verified owner) –

I wanted something I could finish in a sitting or two and these were it. Each color was packed generously, I had plenty to spare. The holder doesn’t match the coasters exactly in finish. It’s a lovely quiet hobby, and I like having something to show for it at the end. I gave a set to my son’s teacher and she was thrilled. Minor things, but I’d still buy it again.

  6. Nelson Ruiz (verified owner) –

Bought these to replace a tired set and the upgrade is obvious. The cork keeps them from sticking to the table when there’s condensation. A few drills had rough edges that needed picking off. They look like a proper matched set. Happy enough that I’d buy another.

  7. Joanna Cook (verified owner) –

I picked these up to add something handmade to the coffee table. The set stacks neatly in the drawer when not in use. Good quality drills with clean edges, not chipped. I picked it up whenever I had a spare twenty minutes. I gave a set to my son’s teacher and she was thrilled. The holder doesn’t match the coasters exactly in finish. Solid overall, just a couple of nitpicks.

Such a fun format – one coaster at a time, no big commitment. Nice thickness – not the flimsy cardboard kind. It’s my go-to when I want something enjoyable that doesn’t take much thought. Using them on the patio table and they’ve held up fine. The wax ran out before I finished and I had to use my own. Good kit overall, just a couple of small things.

Got a set for the office and they dress up my desk. Nothing was crushed or bent in transit. It only comes in sets, so I couldn’t buy a single extra. I worked on it a little each evening and it added up quickly. Still a solid purchase.

These were a housewarming gift and I nearly kept them. If this style appeals to you, it delivers. The symbols on the chart were easy to follow from start to finish. The adhesive picked up a bit of dust while I was working over several days. I kept it by the window and worked on it in the afternoons. Guests always comment on them. Worth it despite the small things.

I’ve done a handful of these now and this one is up there with the best. Made a set for my book club and everyone wanted the link. I’m a sucker for anything palm tree-themed. The edges could be sealed a little better for daily use. Still a solid purchase.

  12. Eileen Velasquez (verified owner) –

Bought a set as a hostess gift and kept a set for myself. The edges are finished cleanly, no rough spots. Quiet Sunday mornings with this and a coffee is my favorite part of the week. The holder finish doesn’t quite match the coasters. Everyone who sees it asks how long it took. Mild quibbles, but a good purchase.

Small enough to take along on a trip. A useful gift that people actually keep out. The packaging arrived a little dented. I’d recommend it with that one note.

Was looking for something to do with my hands in the evenings. Made a set for my sister and now she wants more. Some colors came with barely any extras, though I didn’t run out. If this style appeals to you, it delivers. Good enough that I’d buy another.

  15. Matthew James (verified owner) –

These are my go-to when I want a small craft that still feels rewarding. They’re a nice size for a standard mug, and even a wider tumbler fits. It’s become my evening ritual – an hour of this and I feel settled. The holder is a bit loose so they rattle when moved. A solid purchase with a couple of notes.

Bought a set as a hostess gift and kept a set for myself. The drills sit nice and flush, no gaps showing the surface underneath. The holder doesn’t match the coasters exactly in finish. Perfect for winding down before bed, much better than watching another show. The tropical subject is rendered with more detail than I expected. Good kit overall, just a couple of small things.

Bought a set as a hostess gift and kept a set for myself. No missing colors and nothing short in the high-use shades. The holder finish doesn’t quite match the coasters. Quiet Sunday mornings with this and a coffee is my favorite part of the week. I’d recommend it with that one note.

  18. Christopher Clark (verified owner) –

Bought these for our patio table and they look charming. They look lovely stacked in the holder on the coffee table. A couple of the darker shades were hard to tell apart. Happy with it, with one small caveat.

  19. Lillian Brookins (verified owner) –

I grabbed these to have something small to work on in the evenings. The tropical subject matter is right up my street. Cork base means no scratches on our wood table, which I was worried about. I’d have liked a few more spare drills in the pale colors. I like having something mindful to do that doesn’t need a screen. Happy with it, with a few caveats.

I do these while dinner is in the oven. Great little time filler. The backing grips the table instead of sliding around. The holder is a little loose, the coasters rattle when you move it. Guests always comment on them. I’d recommend it with that one note.

Wasn’t sure what to expect, but I’m very happy with it. The finished piece gets compliments from everyone who visits. The adhesive picked up a bit of dust while I was working over several days. I’d recommend it with that one note.

I bought two sets so I could gift one and keep one. Symbols on the chart are printed clearly enough to follow without guessing. Everyone who sees it asks how long it took. The cork on one had a small rough patch. Would still recommend it.

Perfect little kit – not overwhelming like a full canvas. The holder fits all 8 pieces neatly, keeps them from getting lost. The drills came in labeled bags, which made sorting painless. Quiet Sunday mornings with this and a coffee is my favorite part of the week. They’re a bit small for a large tumbler. They sit by the coffee maker and get used constantly. Overall happy, just a few small things.

Came quickly and was packaged really well. I’ll be buying more from this shop. The holder doesn’t match the coasters exactly in finish. Would order again despite the small issues.

Came across this while looking for craft ideas and bought it that day. The finish is even across the whole piece. The sorting tray is shallow, drills spill out if you’re not careful. I work on it while listening to an audiobook and the time just disappears. Made a set for my sister and now she wants more. Good enough that I’d buy another.

I bought this for our weekend place and it’s been a hit. Each coaster is a solid thickness and feels durable. I do this while listening to music and the time disappears. Took a bit longer to arrive than I expected. I’d order it again knowing what I know now.
