Why This Butterfly Set Earns Its Place on the Table

Here the Butterfly motif is built around a butterfly with wings held open, each panel showing graded colour from deep centre to translucent edge, antennae and body picked out in fine detail, carried by iridescent blues and violets shifting toward warm orange at the wing edges. The result reads as delicate and alive — considered rather than busy. Butterfly motifs work in the transitional spaces of a home — the places that do not need a theme, just something with life in it. It is aimed at homes where the small objects on the table have been chosen on purpose. Designed for hallways and entryways, it holds up as decor rather than as something you finish and put in a drawer. Reference BD479-OPP. butterfly motifs work in the transitional spaces of a home — the places that do not need a theme, just something with life in it. In hallways and entryways the piece holds its own against the surrounding colour rather than fighting it.

DOTZSO builds these kits for slow evenings, with a finish good enough to leave out on the table. Box contents run to a colour-printed canvas, DOTZSO resin drills, a tray, a comfort-grip pen, a wax caddy and a pictorial reference sheet.

Nothing here is decorative-only. The base grips, the cork absorbs, and the drill surface is pressed flat so it survives ordinary use.

The 8-piece format covers seating for a full table without buying twice.

What’s in the Box

  • 8 × anti-slip coaster with cork-backed base
  • 1 × display holder / stand
  • DOTZSO signature resin drills, sorted by colour (with extra drills included)
  • Diamond painting tray
  • Comfort-grip applicator pen
  • Wax caddy
  • Pictorial step-by-step instructions

How to Make It

  1. Unroll the canvas on a flat surface and let it settle under something weighted if it has been rolled tight.
  2. Find the legend strip and match the first symbol to its drill colour.
  3. Press the pen tip into the wax caddy, then touch it to a drill – the drill lifts and stays on the tip.
  4. Set the drill onto the matching printed symbol and press lightly. Work one coaster at a time rather than moving across the whole set.
  5. Complete all coasters, then press each finished surface flat with a book for an hour to seat every drill.
  6. Finally, leave the set on the table for a few hours before first use so the drills settle fully.

Work through it gradually, then let the finished coasters take their place in daily use.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will I need to buy anything else to finish this coaster set?

Yes. The Butterfly coaster set ships complete with the stand shown in the product images, so the coasters have somewhere to live when they are not in use, plus the DOTZSO resin drills, tray, applicator pen, wax caddy and pictorial instructions. Nothing else needs sourcing. Reference BD479-OPP.

Is the drilling on the Butterfly design likely to loosen?

Once the drills are seated and the surface is sealed, the Butterfly design holds under normal use. The cork-backed base is what stops condensation reaching the table, and the sealing step is the single biggest factor in how long the finish lasts. The resin drills bond firmly across the Butterfly pattern.

Is the Butterfly coaster set straightforward to look after?

Wipe with a damp cloth and dry immediately. Do not submerge them or put them through a dishwasher — the adhesive layer under the drills is not built for a soak. For the Butterfly palette, iridescent blues and violets shifting toward warm orange at the wing edges tones show dust less than pale grounds, so a light pass is usually enough. Avoid dishwashers entirely for the Butterfly piece.

How much bare surface does the Butterfly coaster set have?

The drilled finish and palette are matched across the whole set, but each coaster carries its own printed motif. The Butterfly artwork is drawn so that a butterfly with wings held open reads clearly at any distance. The Butterfly pattern is applied across the entire surface.

Is the Butterfly coaster set a big time commitment?

Roughly 30 to 45 minutes each for most people, so a full set is a few evenings rather than one sitting. The Butterfly design is delicate and alive, which tends to make it easier to work in short sessions. The Butterfly layout is easy to put down and pick up again.

Can someone with no craft background do the Butterfly coaster set?

Yes. The symbol key is printed directly on the cork-backed base and the pictorial instructions walk through the whole process, so no prior diamond painting experience is needed. The Butterfly layout is delicate and alive, which helps on a first attempt. The kit is ready to work on arrival.

  1. Jasmine L. –

Such a fun format – one coaster at a time, no big commitment. The drills are bright and consistent in size, no weird off-color batches. They’re a bit smaller than I pictured for a large tumbler. Nice to have something that gets me off my phone for a while. Made a set for my book club and everyone wanted the link. Minor things, but I’d still buy it again.

Perfect little kit – not overwhelming like a full canvas. The cork keeps them from sticking to the table when there’s condensation. I wish the printed legend was a little bigger. Gave a set to my neighbor as a housewarming gift and she loved them. Still worth it overall.

  3. Terence Peters (verified owner) –

Was looking for something to do with my hands in the evenings. If you like butterfly designs, this is a good example. Each coaster is a good thickness and feels sturdy in the hand. The packaging was a little crushed on one corner. I bring them out for guests and always get asked about them. Small things aside, it’s a good buy.

Perfect little kit – not overwhelming like a full canvas. They’ve survived a house full of guests without a mark. Only small gripe is that a few drills had little burrs on them. A good buy, with one or two caveats.

  5. Tabitha Marsh (verified owner) –

Bought these to have on hand for last-minute hostess gifts. Cork base means no scratches on our wood table, which I was worried about. It’s found a permanent spot in the house. The wax was a little stiff at first. Minor quibbles aside, I’d buy it again.

  6. Tessa Adkins (verified owner) –

Bought a set for the camper and they’ve been great. The kit included more than enough drills for the full design. I kept it on the coffee table and worked on it in small bites. I’d prefer slightly thicker cork on the base. The butterfly colors are richer than the photos show. Would recommend it with those notes.

I took a chance on this and it paid off. They live on the side table and look good there. A couple of the darker shades were hard to tell apart. Still a solid purchase.

So glad I added this one to my cart. They look like a proper matched set. The cork on one had a small rough patch. Would buy again; the notes are minor.

This arrived in perfect condition, nothing bent or spilled. The edges are finished cleanly, no rough spots. Packaging was tidy and nothing had spilled in transit. The fall palette is softer in person, which I actually prefer. One of the 8 coasters had a slightly off-center print. I did this with my sister-in-law on the weekends and we both got into it. I’ve had three people ask me where I bought it. Worth buying, just plan for those small quirks.

These were a nice little project to knock out over a week. Gave it to my brother as a gift and it was a big hit. The winged subject matter is right up my street. A couple of the darker shades were hard to tell apart in low light. Good enough that I’d buy another.

  11. Sue Vasquez (verified owner) –

I’ve bought from this shop a few times now and this is another good one. The cork keeps them from sticking to the table when there’s condensation. I keep it set up on a side table and do a bit whenever I have ten minutes. The sorting tray is shallow, drills spill out if you’re not careful. Minor quibbles aside, I’d buy it again.

These are my go-to when I want a small craft that still feels rewarding. Cork on the bottom plus the drill top makes them feel solid. Took a bit longer to arrive than I expected. Perfect for a cozy evening in when you want to keep your hands busy. Great value for what you get. Overall a good experience.

  13. TheTidyTable –

I’ve finished four of these now and this might be my favorite. It’s a lovely take on a winged design. I wish the instructions went into a bit more detail for a first-timer. It’s the sort of object that makes a room feel more finished. Still a solid purchase.

  14. Alyssa P. (verified owner) –

Exactly what the listing described, no surprises. There were extra drills left over in every color when I finished. The fall subject is rendered with more detail than I expected. I did this with my niece on the weekends and we both got into it. They sit by the coffee maker and get used constantly. A couple of the darker shades were hard to tell apart in low light. Minor things, but I’d still buy it again.

  15. Miguel Lynch –

Was looking for a small diamond art project and these nailed it. They’re a nice size for a standard mug, and even a wider tumbler fits. Surprisingly calming, even for someone with a short attention span. The edges could be sealed a little better for daily use. A solid purchase with a couple of notes.

I like having a small kit that doesn’t take a month. This is a lovely butterfly piece for the price. We actually use them every day, not just display them. The holder finish doesn’t quite match the coasters. Still glad I ordered it overall.

Second time ordering this style, still happy with it. They’re sized well for a standard mug and a wider tumbler too. Nice mindful work that keeps you present. The printed chart could have been a touch larger. Would order again despite the small issues.

I keep a set going on the kitchen counter. Cork base means no scratches on our wood table, which I was worried about. The packaging arrived a little dented. I’m already planning my next one from this shop. Worth it despite the small things.

These are my favorite style of kit to give away. The sparkle on these drills is genuinely nice. It’s found a permanent spot in the house. The edges could be sealed a little better for daily use. Would still recommend it.

Ordered this as a small pick-me-up and it worked. The tweezers included were actually good quality. The packaging kept everything organized and undamaged. I finished it faster than I expected because I kept coming back to it. The set is eight, which is more than I strictly needed. They bring a bit of charm to the coffee table. Mild quibbles, but a good purchase.

I like having a small kit that doesn’t take a month. The finish is even across the whole piece. Keeps my hands busy during long flights and hotel evenings. Wish the cork backing were a touch thicker. They sit by the coffee maker and get used constantly. Overall happy, just a few small things.

Been doing these for about two years and this kit is solid. The edges are finished cleanly, no rough spots. Nice to have a hobby that leaves you calmer than you started. They’re a bit smaller than I pictured for a large tumbler. I’ll be ordering from this shop again. Minor things, but I’d still buy it again.

I’ve bought from this shop a few times now and this is another good one. The set stacks neatly in the holder on the shelf. It’s easy to pick up and put down, which suits my schedule. Instructions were minimal, though it’s easy enough to figure out. I’ll be ordering from this shop again. Overall happy, just a few small things.

This one caught my eye and I’m glad it did. The holder fits all 8 pieces neatly, keeps them from getting lost. I keep it by my chair and pick it up whenever I have a few minutes. A couple of the darker shades were hard to tell apart. Minor things, but I’d still buy it again.

Such a fun format – one coaster at a time, no big commitment. They’re a nice size for a standard mug, and even a wider tumbler fits. Perfect for a cozy evening in when you want to keep your hands busy. One bag of drills had come open in transit. I gave a set to my son’s teacher and she was thrilled. A solid purchase with a couple of notes.

I like having a small kit that doesn’t take a month. The artwork looks even better in person than the photos. The edges could be sealed a little better for daily use. Cork on the bottom plus the drill top makes them feel solid. The repetitive motion is oddly satisfying, one of those simple pleasures. Overall a good experience.

These coasters have become the little project I look forward to. The edges are finished cleanly, no rough spots. Nice to have something that gets me off my phone for a while. The pen that came with it is a bit flimsy, I swapped in my own. I chose this one for the winged look. Worth buying, just plan for those small quirks.

Ordered this after seeing it on a friend’s shelf. The symbols on the chart were easy to follow from start to finish. I’d have preferred more spare drills in the least-used color. I did a section a night and looked forward to it each time. Worth it despite the small things.

Got a set for the office and they dress up my desk. The kit came complete, nothing extra needed from the craft store. I gave a set to my son’s teacher and she was thrilled. They’re a bit smaller than I pictured for a large tumbler. The butterfly colors are richer than the photos show. Small issues, but nothing that would stop me ordering again.
