Why This Cat Set Earns Its Place on the Table

This one works a cat settled in profile with tail wrapped forward, fur rendered in overlapping short strokes across the flank and chest into a Cat composition, coloured in warm greys and soft browns with bright eye highlights against a tonal background. The effect is calm and companionable and unfussy. Cat portraits sell because the owner already has a relationship with the subject — the canvas just holds it. It is aimed at homes where the small objects on the table have been chosen on purpose. Designed for bedrooms and home offices, it holds up as decor rather than as something you finish and put in a drawer. Reference BD679. Cat portraits sell because the owner already has a relationship with the subject — the canvas just holds it It is also why the piece keeps working after the novelty fades.

cat portraits sell because the owner already has a relationship with the subject — the canvas just holds it. The calm colouring is what allows it to sit in bedrooms and home offices without dominating.

DOTZSO builds these kits for slow evenings, with a finish good enough to leave out on the table. Box contents run to a colour-printed canvas, DOTZSO resin drills, a tray, a comfort-grip pen, a wax caddy and a pictorial reference sheet.

Nothing here is decorative-only. The base grips, the cork absorbs, and the drill surface is pressed flat so it survives ordinary use.

The 8-piece format covers seating for a full table without buying twice.

What’s in the Box

  • 8 × anti-slip coaster with cork-backed base
  • 1 × display holder / stand
  • DOTZSO signature resin drills, sorted by colour (with extra drills included)
  • Diamond painting tray
  • Comfort-grip applicator pen
  • Wax caddy
  • Pictorial step-by-step instructions

How to Make It

  1. Unroll the canvas on a flat surface and let it settle under something weighted if it has been rolled tight.
  2. Find the legend strip and match the first symbol to its drill colour.
  3. Press the pen tip into the wax caddy, then touch it to a drill – the drill lifts and stays on the tip.
  4. Set the drill onto the matching printed symbol and press lightly. Work one coaster at a time rather than moving across the whole set.
  5. Complete all coasters, then press each finished surface flat with a book for an hour to seat every drill.
  6. Finally, leave the set on the table for a few hours before first use so the drills settle fully.

Work through it gradually, then let the finished coasters take their place in daily use.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does this Cat coaster set include the tools as well as the project?

Yes. The Cat coaster set ships complete with the stand shown in the product images, so the coasters have somewhere to live when they are not in use, plus the DOTZSO resin drills, tray, applicator pen, wax caddy and pictorial instructions. Nothing else needs sourcing. Reference BD679.

Is the Cat coaster set robust in normal conditions?

Once the drills are seated and the surface is sealed, the Cat design holds under normal use. The cork-backed base is what stops condensation reaching the table, and the sealing step is the single biggest factor in how long the finish lasts. Press the surface flat once you finish and the coverage stays put.

How should the Cat surface be handled during cleaning?

Wipe with a damp cloth and dry immediately. Do not submerge them or put them through a dishwasher — the adhesive layer under the drills is not built for a soak. For the Cat palette, warm greys and soft browns tones show dust less than pale grounds, so a light pass is usually enough. Routine care is minimal once the Cat piece is sealed.

Is the drilling on the Cat coaster set consistent?

The drilled finish and palette are matched across the whole set, but each coaster carries its own printed motif. The Cat artwork is drawn so that a cat settled in profile with tail wrapped forward reads clearly at any distance. The Cat design leaves nothing unworked at the margins.

How long should I budget for the Cat design?

Roughly 30 to 45 minutes each for most people, so a full set is a few evenings rather than one sitting. The Cat design is calm and companionable, which tends to make it easier to work in short sessions. The Cat pattern rewards steady work rather than rushing.

Does the Cat design need any training?

Yes. The symbol key is printed directly on the cork-backed base and the pictorial instructions walk through the whole process, so no prior diamond painting experience is needed. The Cat layout is calm and companionable, which helps on a first attempt. The kit is ready to work on arrival.

This was my first diamond painting kit and I’m officially hooked. The holder fits all 8 pieces neatly, keeps them from getting lost. Really calming, repetitive work, and satisfying when a section is finished. The edges could be sealed a bit better for daily use. Still a solid purchase.

Got these for the kitchen table and they look so cute. The drills came in labeled bags, which made sorting painless. I like having something mindful to do that doesn’t need a screen. Wish the cork backing were a touch thicker. Still worth it overall.

I grabbed these to have something small to work on in the evenings. Cork on the bottom plus the drill top makes them feel solid. They look great on the sideboard and are genuinely useful. Will be back for more.

Came quickly and was packaged really well. Each color was packed generously, I had plenty to spare. Nice to have something that gets me off my phone for a while. Everyone who sees it asks how long it took. Worth every penny.

I picked this up on a whim and ended up really enjoying it. The edges are finished cleanly, no rough spots. Everything I needed was in the box – pen, wax, tray and tweezers. It’s my go-to when I want something enjoyable that doesn’t take much thought. Made a set for my book club and everyone wanted the link. They’re a bit smaller than I pictured for a large tumbler. Good kit overall, just a couple of small things.

Bought a set to use at our lake house and ended up making all eight. The holder fits all 8 pieces neatly, keeps them from getting lost. The edges could be sealed a bit better for daily use. I set it up next to the window and do a few rows whenever the light is good. I gave a set to my son’s teacher and she was thrilled. Happy with it, with a few caveats.

Bought a set to use at our lake house and ended up making all eight. The edges are finished cleanly, no rough spots. A few bags weren’t labeled as clearly as the rest. Going to order a few more for Christmas presents. Happy enough that I’d buy another.

Got these for the kitchen table and they look so cute. The adhesive is plenty sticky, the drills stay exactly where I put them. I take it to my book club and work on it while we chat. I bring them out for guests and always get asked about them. Very happy with this purchase.

Perfect little kit – not overwhelming like a full canvas. The pen and wax worked fine, I didn’t need to dig out my own tools. I found it really peaceful to focus on one small area at a time. The holder is a little loose, the coasters rattle when you move it. Good kit overall, just a couple of small things.

These are great for a first-timer, not intimidating at all. I went with the kitty version and the colors are lovely. The canvas arrived flat rather than rolled tight. Great way to slow down at the end of a busy day. I keep them out for guests and always get asked about them. Would buy again in a heartbeat.

These are my go-to when I want a small craft that still feels rewarding. They’re a nice size for a standard mug, and even a wider tumbler fits. I did a section a night and looked forward to it each time. The cat colors are richer than the photos show. The adhesive picked up a bit of dust while I was working over several days. A solid purchase with a couple of notes.

I’ve made several sets of these now as gifts. Each color was in its own pouch, clearly numbered. It’s a calm, repetitive hobby and that’s exactly what I wanted. It looks like something you’d buy, not something you assembled. This shop has a repeat customer in me.

Found this while browsing and couldn’t leave without it. The base is thick enough that they don’t feel flimsy. I find it relaxing to just follow the chart and let my mind wander. The holder finish doesn’t quite match the coasters. A solid purchase with a couple of notes.

I did this with my granddaughter on the weekends and we both got into it. If you like cat designs, this is a good one to go for. I bring them out for guests and always get asked about them.
