Why This Dog Set Earns Its Place on the Table

This Dog design shows a dog seated facing outward, ears relaxed, coat textured in layered strokes with the muzzle and eyes worked in finer detail. The colour work runs through warm tans and creams with darker shading at the ears and back — an overall feel that is warm and loyal, never busy. A dog portrait is one of the few decorations a household will keep permanently, which is why the detailing matters. It fits anyone who wants a handmade set without the upkeep ceramics demand. Designed for entryways and family rooms, it holds up as decor rather than as something you finish and put in a drawer. Reference BD575. The eyes are worked last and in the finest drill available — that sequence is what gives the finished portrait expression.

a dog portrait is one of the few decorations a household will keep permanently, which is why the detailing matters. In practice that means the finished piece sits comfortably in entryways and family rooms, where the warm character of the palette does the decorating for you.

A DOTZSO kit is designed so the making is restful and the finished piece earns its place in the room. Alongside the canvas you get DOTZSO resin drills, a sorting tray, a comfort-grip applicator pen, a wax caddy and pictorial instructions.

What makes this a working set rather than a display piece is underneath – a cork backing that takes the moisture before it reaches the furniture.

Matched drills across all 8 pieces mean the set looks deliberate when stacked or spread out.

What’s in the Box

  • 8 × anti-slip coaster with cork-backed base
  • 1 × display holder / stand
  • DOTZSO signature resin drills, sorted by colour (with extra drills included)
  • Diamond painting tray
  • Comfort-grip applicator pen
  • Wax caddy
  • Pictorial step-by-step instructions

How to Make It

  1. Unroll the canvas on a flat surface and let it settle under something weighted if it has been rolled tight.
  2. Find the legend strip and match the first symbol to its drill colour.
  3. Press the pen tip into the wax caddy, then touch it to a drill – the drill lifts and stays on the tip.
  4. Set the drill onto the matching printed symbol and press lightly. Work one coaster at a time rather than moving across the whole set.
  5. Complete all coasters, then press each finished surface flat with a book for an hour to seat every drill.
  6. Finally, leave the set on the table for a few hours before first use so the drills settle fully.

Finish the set at an easy pace, then leave it on the table rather than boxing it up.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the coaster set complete, or is the base sold separately?

Yes. The Dog coaster set ships complete with the stand shown in the product images, so the coasters have somewhere to live when they are not in use, plus the DOTZSO resin drills, tray, applicator pen, wax caddy and pictorial instructions. Nothing else needs sourcing. Reference BD575.

Will the Dog finish dull or lift with use?

Once the drills are seated and the surface is sealed, the Dog design holds under normal use. The cork-backed base is what stops condensation reaching the table, and the sealing step is the single biggest factor in how long the finish lasts. The resin drills bond firmly across the Dog pattern.

Is there a wrong way to clean the Dog coaster set?

Wipe with a damp cloth and dry immediately. Do not submerge them or put them through a dishwasher — the adhesive layer under the drills is not built for a soak. For the Dog palette, warm tans and creams tones show dust less than pale grounds, so a light pass is usually enough. Keep the Dog piece away from standing water.

How dense is the drilling on the Dog design?

The drilled finish and palette are matched across the whole set, but each coaster carries its own printed motif. The Dog artwork is drawn so that a dog seated facing outward reads clearly at any distance. There is no printed fill showing through on the Dog design.

Is the Dog coaster set a quick make or a longer project?

Roughly 30 to 45 minutes each for most people, so a full set is a few evenings rather than one sitting. The Dog design is warm and loyal, which tends to make it easier to work in short sessions. The Dog layout is easy to put down and pick up again.

Would I cope with the Dog design as a novice?

Yes. The symbol key is printed directly on the cork-backed base and the pictorial instructions walk through the whole process, so no prior diamond painting experience is needed. The Dog layout is warm and loyal, which helps on a first attempt. No separate tools are required.

These little coasters are the perfect size for a quick project. The pen and wax worked fine, I didn’t need to dig out my own tools. There were slightly more drills than needed, so it took longer than planned. The dog pattern is what drew me in and it didn’t disappoint. It turned into something I actually want to display, not shove in a drawer. Would order again despite the small issues.

I made one the first night just to see how it went, then did the rest over the week. Cork base means no scratches on our wood table, which I was worried about. A couple of the darker shades were hard to tell apart in low light. It’s become my evening ritual – an hour of this and I feel settled. Good kit overall, just a couple of small things.

I made one the first night just to see how it went, then did the rest over the week. Each one took me a couple of hours to finish, quicker than I expected. Keeps my hands busy during long flights and hotel evenings. I gave a set to my son’s teacher and she was thrilled. The dog pattern is what drew me in and it didn’t disappoint. The wax ran out before I finished and I had to use my own. Would order again despite the small issues.

  4. Madge Dunn (verified owner) –

Such a fun format – one coaster at a time, no big commitment. The puppy pattern is what made me choose this one. Cork on the bottom stops condensation from sticking them down. Took me a while to get the hang of the multi-placer tip. The finish is even across the whole piece. It’s the kind of hobby that makes an evening feel well spent. Everyone who comes over picks one up to look at it. Good enough that I’d buy another.

These little coasters are the perfect size for a quick project. It photographs well, which is a bonus for sharing. The pen was fine, though I ended up using my own. Would buy again; the notes are minor.

Bought a set as a hostess gift and kept a set for myself. Great housewarming gift, small and thoughtful. The set is eight, which is more than I strictly needed. Minor quibbles aside, I’d buy it again.

I keep a set going on the kitchen counter. The adhesive is plenty sticky, the drills stay exactly where I put them. I wish the box were sturdier for storage. Nice to have something that gets me off my phone for a while. Would recommend it with those notes.

I made one the first night just to see how it went, then did the rest over the week. The cork keeps them from sticking to the table when there’s condensation. It’s easy to lose track of time once you get going. They live on the side table and look good there. The adhesive picked up a bit of dust while I was working over several days. I’d recommend it with that one note.

I wanted something I could finish in a sitting or two and these were it. They’re a hit whenever we have people over. They’re a bit small for a large tumbler. Worth buying, just plan for those small quirks.

  10. Orlando Chadwick (verified owner) –

This was exactly the kind of project I needed this month. They bring a bit of charm to the coffee table. The edges could be sealed a little better for daily use. Good kit — the notes above are minor.

  11. Conor Sinclair –

A set of coasters felt like the perfect bite-sized project. Packaging was tidy and nothing had spilled in transit. The sorting tray is shallow, drills spill out if you’re not careful. I do a section a night with a podcast on. I’d order again, just knowing what to expect.

  12. Luis T. (verified owner) –

Ordered on a Monday, had it by the weekend. The puppy palette is softer in person, which I actually prefer. I bring them out for guests and always get asked about them. The holder is a little loose, the coasters rattle when you move it. Overall a good experience.

  13. Shane K. –

I keep coming back to this shop because the quality is consistent. No missing colors and no shortage on the ones used most. I do a section after work with a cup of tea and it’s a nice way to unwind. Everyone who comes over picks one up to look at it. The puppy design is even prettier in person than in the photos. Instructions were pretty minimal, though there are plenty of tutorials online. Still a solid purchase.

This showed up faster than I expected and I started it the same night. No missing colors and no shortage on the ones used most. They’re a bit smaller than I pictured for a large tumbler. Perfect for a cozy evening in when you want to keep your hands busy. Happy with it, with a few caveats.

Perfect for when you want a finished project fast. I bring them out for guests and always get asked about them. A couple of the darker shades were hard to tell apart. Still worth it overall.

These are the perfect size to actually finish. They’re sized well for a standard mug and a wider tumbler too. One of the 8 coasters had a slightly off-center print. Worth the time it took. Good kit overall, just a couple of small things.

  17. Greg Hutchinson (verified owner) –

Bought a set to use at our lake house and ended up making all eight. All eight coasters came out the same size, which isn’t always the case. I’d have liked a few more spare drills in the pale colors. The pace of it suits me — no pressure, no deadline. They look like a proper matched set. Still worth it overall.

I grabbed these to have something small to work on in the evenings. The dog pattern is what drew me in and it didn’t disappoint. I’ve had three people ask me where I bought it. The holder doesn’t match the coasters exactly in finish. Good kit overall, just a couple of small things.

  19. Delores Edwards (verified owner) –

I keep a set going on the kitchen counter. The drills arrived clean, not stuck together in clumps. It’s a calm, repetitive hobby and that’s exactly what I wanted. They look lovely stacked in the holder on the coffee table. One of the 8 coasters had a slightly off-center print. The puppy palette works really well with the design. Overall happy, just a few small things.

Perfect little kit – not overwhelming like a full canvas. I’m a sucker for anything puppy-themed. Shipping took a few days longer than I expected. It turned into something I actually want to display, not shove in a drawer. Worth it, just go in with the right expectations.

  21. Emma Warren (verified owner) –

Honestly better quality than I expected for the price. Each one took me a rainy day to finish, quicker than I expected. This one might be my favorite finish yet. The pen that came with it is a bit flimsy, I swapped in my own. Overall a good experience.

  22. Renee Sanders –

This showed up faster than I expected and I started it the same night. The edges are finished cleanly, no rough spots. The puppy artwork comes together beautifully as you work. The packaging was a little crushed on one corner. It’s the kind of project that feels creative without being stressful. We actually use them every day, not just display them. I’d order again, just knowing what to expect.

Got these for the kitchen table and they look so cute. Each color was packed generously, I had plenty to spare. Instructions were pretty minimal, though there are plenty of tutorials online. Made a set for my book club and everyone wanted the link. Good kit overall, just a couple of small things.

I wanted something I could finish in a sitting or two and these were it. The kit came complete, nothing extra needed from the craft store. Wish the cork backing were a touch thicker. Keeps my hands busy during long flights and hotel evenings. They look lovely stacked in the holder on the table. Still worth it overall.

I picked these up to add something handmade to the coffee table. The cork keeps them from sticking to the table when there’s condensation. I did most of it on weekend mornings with coffee. Some colors came with barely any extras, though I didn’t run out. Made a set for my book club and everyone wanted the link. Worth buying, just plan for those small quirks.
