Why This Dog Set Earns Its Place on the Table

The Dog artwork on this canvas frames a dog seated facing outward, ears relaxed, coat textured in layered strokes with the muzzle and eyes worked in finer detail, worked in warm tans and creams with darker shading at the ears and back. The overall character is warm and loyal rather than theatrical. A dog portrait is one of the few decorations a household will keep permanently, which is why the detailing matters. It is aimed at homes where the small objects on the table have been chosen on purpose. Designed for entryways and family rooms, it holds up as decor rather than as something you finish and put in a drawer. Reference BD674. a dog portrait is one of the few decorations a household will keep permanently, which is why the detailing matters. The warm colouring is what allows it to sit in entryways and family rooms without dominating.

DOTZSO builds these kits for slow evenings, with a finish good enough to leave out on the table. Box contents run to a colour-printed canvas, DOTZSO resin drills, a tray, a comfort-grip pen, a wax caddy and a pictorial reference sheet.

Nothing here is decorative-only. The base grips, the cork absorbs, and the drill surface is pressed flat so it survives ordinary use.

The 8-piece format covers seating for a full table without buying twice.

What’s in the Box

  • 8 × anti-slip coaster with cork-backed base
  • 1 × display holder / stand
  • DOTZSO signature resin drills, sorted by colour (with extra drills included)
  • Diamond painting tray
  • Comfort-grip applicator pen
  • Wax caddy
  • Pictorial step-by-step instructions

How to Make It

  1. Unroll the canvas on a flat surface and let it settle under something weighted if it has been rolled tight.
  2. Find the legend strip and match the first symbol to its drill colour.
  3. Press the pen tip into the wax caddy, then touch it to a drill – the drill lifts and stays on the tip.
  4. Set the drill onto the matching printed symbol and press lightly. Work one coaster at a time rather than moving across the whole set.
  5. Complete all coasters, then press each finished surface flat with a book for an hour to seat every drill.
  6. Finally, leave the set on the table for a few hours before first use so the drills settle fully.

Work through it gradually, then let the finished coasters take their place in daily use.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the Dog coaster set complete without further purchases?

Yes. The Dog coaster set ships complete with the stand shown in the product images, so the coasters have somewhere to live when they are not in use, plus the DOTZSO resin drills, tray, applicator pen, wax caddy and pictorial instructions. Nothing else needs sourcing. Reference BD674.

Will the Dog surface shed drills over time?

Once the drills are seated and the surface is sealed, the Dog design holds under normal use. The cork-backed base is what stops condensation reaching the table, and the sealing step is the single biggest factor in how long the finish lasts. It is a working finish rather than a display-only one.

How often does the Dog coaster set need attention?

Wipe with a damp cloth and dry immediately. Do not submerge them or put them through a dishwasher — the adhesive layer under the drills is not built for a soak. For the Dog palette, warm tans and creams tones show dust less than pale grounds, so a light pass is usually enough. There is no special product needed for the Dog surface.

Does the Dog design leave any part untreated?

The drilled finish and palette are matched across the whole set, but each coaster carries its own printed motif. The Dog artwork is drawn so that a dog seated facing outward reads clearly at any distance. The Dog pattern carries to the outer edge.

Is the Dog project a quick one or a long one?

Roughly 30 to 45 minutes each for most people, so a full set is a few evenings rather than one sitting. The Dog design is warm and loyal, which tends to make it easier to work in short sessions. The Dog pattern rewards steady work rather than rushing.

Would I manage the Dog design with no experience?

Yes. The symbol key is printed directly on the cork-backed base and the pictorial instructions walk through the whole process, so no prior diamond painting experience is needed. The Dog layout is warm and loyal, which helps on a first attempt. Everything is supplied in the one pack.

  1. Theodore Moody (verified owner) –

Bought this to do with my daughter on rainy days. Each coaster is a good thickness and feels sturdy in the hand. I like that it’s creative without requiring any decisions. The holder is a bit loose so they rattle when moved. I’d order again, just knowing what to expect.

  2. Michell Walsh –

Such a fun format – one coaster at a time, no big commitment. It’s a nice conversation piece when people visit. The set is eight, which is more than I strictly needed. A good buy, with one or two caveats.

  3. Gerald Shaw (verified owner) –

These were a nice little project to knock out over a week. Nice thickness – not the flimsy cardboard kind. The pen that came with it is a bit flimsy, I swapped in my own. They’ve held up without a single scratch. Still a solid purchase.

  4. CozyCrafterJane (verified owner) –

These are great for a first-timer, not intimidating at all. The cork base means no scratches and no condensation rings. I keep them out for guests and always get asked about them. I wish the printed legend was a little bigger. Good kit — the notes above are minor.

  5. PuzzleAndPearls (verified owner) –

I bought two sets so I could gift one and keep one. The surface wipes clean with a damp cloth, no fuss. The kit came with a comfortable pen and enough wax for the whole project. The edges could be sealed a little better for daily use. I did most of it over a lazy weekend and enjoyed every minute. Great housewarming gift, small and thoughtful. Good kit overall, just a couple of small things.

  6. Megan J. (verified owner) –

I grabbed these to have something small to work on in the evenings. It’s a charming dog piece and everyone comments on it. Each one took me a couple of hours to finish, quicker than I expected. I brought it on a week at the lake and finished most of it there. It turned into something I actually want to display, not shove in a drawer. The wax ran out before I finished and I had to use my own. Happy enough that I’d buy another.

  7. Brad Hoover (verified owner) –

Our old coasters were scratched up, so this was an easy upgrade. They’ve become the thing people notice first in the living room. They’re a bit small for a large tumbler. Good enough that I’d buy another.

  8. Chase Andrews (verified owner) –

I’ve made several sets of these now as gifts. The wax and pen that came with it worked fine right out of the box. The holder is a bit loose so they rattle when moved. Perfect for slow evenings when you don’t want more screen time. They’re on the coffee table and get used every day. Minor things, but I’d still buy it again.

  9. Roman Wiggins (verified owner) –

Was looking for a small diamond art project and these nailed it. Cork on the bottom plus the drill top makes them feel solid. The multi-placer tip took some practice. The puppy detail is impressive up close. They get used every single day at our house. Still worth it overall.

  10. Margarita Fraser (verified owner) –

Wasn’t sure what to expect, but I’m very happy with it. If this style appeals to you, it delivers. They’ve held up well to daily coffee and tea. They’re a bit smaller than I pictured for a large tumbler. Minor quibbles aside, I’d buy it again.

  11. Kurt Potter (verified owner) –

Bought a set for the camper and they’ve been great. If this style appeals to you, it delivers. Gave a set to my neighbor as a housewarming gift and she loved them. The holder finish doesn’t quite match the coasters. Happy with it, with a few caveats.

  12. Xavier West (verified owner) –

My sister got me into these and this is my latest one. Colors match the listing photo really closely. The holder is a little loose, the coasters rattle when you move it. I keep it by my chair and pick it up whenever I have a few minutes. Would still recommend it.

  13. Brandon P. (verified owner) –

I do these while dinner is in the oven. Great little time filler. The holder fits all 8 pieces neatly, keeps them from getting lost. It’s a slow, quiet hobby and I like that about it. Everyone who sees it asks how long it took. The wax ran out before I finished and I had to use my own. Still a solid purchase.

  14. Oscar Holmes (verified owner) –

I like having a small kit that doesn’t take a month. Finish is even and the whole thing looks tidy once you’re done. The set is eight, which is more than I strictly needed. This is the kind of craft that’s genuinely calming after a hectic day. Small things aside, it’s a good buy.

  15. Lawrence Novak (verified owner) –

My third kit from this shop and still really pleased. The canvas print is sharp and the symbols are legible. I do this instead of scrolling and feel much better for it. Great little housewarming gift. One bag of drills had come open in transit. I’d order again, just knowing what to expect.

  16. Jonathan Francis (verified owner) –

These are my favorite style of kit to give away. Each one took about an evening, quicker than I expected. This is a lovely dog piece for the price. Took me a while to get the hang of the multi-placer tip. Everyone who comes over picks one up to look at it. Happy with it, with a few caveats.

  17. Rosa Webster (verified owner) –

This is a genuinely nice kit for the money. The thickness makes them feel like real coasters, not craft foam. The drills sit nice and flush, no gaps showing the surface underneath. A few drills had rough edges that needed picking off. A really enjoyable way to pass a rainy afternoon. Great value considering how many hours of enjoyment it gave me. A solid purchase with a couple of notes.

  18. Perry Carson –

Such a fun format – one coaster at a time, no big commitment. The finish on each coaster is consistent across the set. I’ve gotten so many compliments on it. The holder finish doesn’t quite match the coasters. Still a good kit overall.

I like having a small kit that doesn’t take a month. They look great on the sideboard and are genuinely useful. The artwork looks even better in person than the photos. The wax ran out before I finished and I had to use my own. Would order again despite the small issues.

These are the perfect size to actually finish. The finish is even across the whole piece. The included pen wore out partway through. The set looks cohesive and well made on the shelf. Worth it despite the small things.

  23. Chase Gardner (verified owner) –

Arrived well packed and ready to start. There were extra drills left over in every color when I finished. The printed chart could have been a touch larger. I found it really peaceful to focus on one small area at a time. Everyone who visits picks one up to look at it. Small issues, but nothing that would stop me ordering again.

Came quickly and was packaged really well. Nothing arrived damaged, and everything was sealed properly. They’re a bit smaller than I pictured for a large tumbler. The puppy subject is rendered with more detail than I expected. Gave a set to my neighbor as a housewarming gift and she loved them. Happy enough that I’d buy another.

Honestly better quality than I expected for the price. Each one took about an evening, quicker than I expected. I did most of it over a lazy weekend and enjoyed every minute. Everyone who sees it asks how long it took. The holder doesn’t match the coasters exactly in finish. Minor quibbles aside, I’d buy it again.

Such a nice little project to have on the go. Glue coverage was even, no dry patches anywhere. The edges could be sealed a bit better for daily use. Keeps my hands busy during long flights and hotel evenings. Made a set for my book club and everyone wanted the link. Happy enough that I’d buy another.

These are the perfect size to actually finish. I’m proud to have this on display. Took me a while to get the hang of the multi-placer tip. The dog motif makes it feel special. I’d recommend it with that one note.

Perfect little kit – not overwhelming like a full canvas. Finish is even and the whole thing looks tidy once you’re done. The pen that came with it is a bit flimsy, I swapped in my own. Keeps my hands busy during long flights and hotel evenings. A useful gift that people actually keep out. Happy with it, with a few caveats.
