Why This Butterfly Set Earns Its Place on the Table

The Butterfly artwork on this canvas frames a butterfly with wings held open, each panel showing graded colour from deep centre to translucent edge, antennae and body picked out in fine detail, worked in iridescent blues and violets shifting toward warm orange at the wing edges. The overall character is delicate and alive rather than theatrical. Butterfly motifs work in the transitional spaces of a home — the places that do not need a theme, just something with life in it. It fits anyone who wants a handmade set without the upkeep ceramics demand. Designed for hallways and entryways, it holds up as decor rather than as something you finish and put in a drawer. Reference BD479. Wing panels are worked as separate colour zones, so the shimmer shifts as you move past the finished piece.

butterfly motifs work in the transitional spaces of a home — the places that do not need a theme, just something with life in it. In practice that means the finished piece sits comfortably in hallways and entryways, where the delicate character of the palette does the decorating for you.

A DOTZSO kit is designed so the making is restful and the finished piece earns its place in the room. Alongside the canvas you get DOTZSO resin drills, a sorting tray, a comfort-grip applicator pen, a wax caddy and pictorial instructions.

What makes this a working set rather than a display piece is underneath – a cork backing that takes the moisture before it reaches the furniture.

Matched drills across all 8 pieces mean the set looks deliberate when stacked or spread out.

  • DOTZSO signature resin drills, sorted by colour (with extra drills included)
  • Diamond painting tray
  • Comfort-grip applicator pen
  • Wax caddy
  • Pictorial step-by-step instructions

How to Make It

  1. Unroll the canvas on a flat surface and let it settle under something weighted if it has been rolled tight.
  2. Find the legend strip and match the first symbol to its drill colour.
  3. Press the pen tip into the wax caddy, then touch it to a drill – the drill lifts and stays on the tip.
  4. Set the drill onto the matching printed symbol and press lightly. Work one coaster at a time rather than moving across the whole set.
  5. Complete all coasters, then press each finished surface flat with a book for an hour to seat every drill.
  6. Finally, leave the set on the table for a few hours before first use so the drills settle fully.

Finish the set at an easy pace, then leave it on the table rather than boxing it up.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the Butterfly coaster set delivered as one complete package?

Yes. The Butterfly coaster set ships complete with the stand shown in the product images, so the coasters have somewhere to live when they are not in use, plus the DOTZSO resin drills, tray, applicator pen, wax caddy and pictorial instructions. Nothing else needs sourcing. Reference BD479.

Is the Butterfly design secure once sealed?

Once the drills are seated and the surface is sealed, the Butterfly design holds under normal use. The cork-backed base is what stops condensation reaching the table, and the sealing step is the single biggest factor in how long the finish lasts. The main variable is how well the final sealing pass is done.

Does the Butterfly design need protective treatment?

Wipe with a damp cloth and dry immediately. Do not submerge them or put them through a dishwasher — the adhesive layer under the drills is not built for a soak. For the Butterfly palette, iridescent blues and violets shifting toward warm orange at the wing edges tones show dust less than pale grounds, so a light pass is usually enough. The Butterfly surface is not built for immersion.

Is the Butterfly coaster set a full coverage piece?

The drilled finish and palette are matched across the whole set, but each coaster carries its own printed motif. The Butterfly artwork is drawn so that a butterfly with wings held open reads clearly at any distance. The Butterfly face has no deliberately exposed areas.

How long would a beginner need for the Butterfly coaster set?

Roughly 30 to 45 minutes each for most people, so a full set is a few evenings rather than one sitting. The Butterfly design is delicate and alive, which tends to make it easier to work in short sessions. Plan the Butterfly piece around several sittings.

Is the Butterfly coaster set suitable for a first attempt?

Yes. The symbol key is printed directly on the cork-backed base and the pictorial instructions walk through the whole process, so no prior diamond painting experience is needed. The Butterfly layout is delicate and alive, which helps on a first attempt. The pack is self-contained.

Exactly what the listing described, no surprises. Everything I needed was in the box – pen, wax, tray and tweezers. Instructions were pretty minimal, though there are plenty of tutorials online. Keeps my hands busy during long flights and hotel evenings. Great value for what you get. Happy with it, with a few caveats.

Really nice kit, especially for the money. Packaging was tidy and nothing had spilled in transit. It’s become my evening ritual – an hour of this and I feel settled. Wish the cork backing were a touch thicker. I’d recommend it with that one note.

  3. Cynthia G. –

Honestly better quality than I expected for the price. The cork backing is a nice touch, they don’t slide around on the table. The autumn design is even prettier in person than in the photos. It’s the kind of project that feels creative without being stressful. Gave a set to my neighbor as a housewarming gift and she loved them. They’re a bit smaller than I pictured for a large tumbler. Good kit overall, just a couple of small things.

I grabbed these to have something small to work on in the evenings. The edges are finished cleanly, no rough spots. They look great on the sideboard and are genuinely useful. The holder is a little loose, the coasters rattle when you move it. Would order again despite the small issues.

This one caught my eye and I’m glad it did. They’ve held up without a single scratch. I wish the printed legend was a little bigger. Happy with it, with a few caveats.

  6. Sheila Barton (verified owner) –

These are my go-to when I want a small craft that still feels rewarding. I keep them out for guests and always get asked about them. A few drills were stuck together and needed separating. Would recommend it with those notes.

  7. Gabriela L. (verified owner) –

These are my go-to when I want a small craft that still feels rewarding. Each one took me a lazy afternoon to finish, quicker than I expected. The repetitive motion is oddly satisfying, one of those simple pleasures. The fall palette is softer in person, which I actually prefer. Made a set for my book club and everyone wanted the link. I wish the printed legend was a little bigger. Happy with it, with a few caveats.

So glad I added this one to my cart. Cork base means no scratches on our wood table, which I was worried about. The pen that came with it is a bit flimsy, I swapped in my own. We actually use them every day, not just display them. Good kit overall, just a couple of small things.

I’ve bought from this shop a few times now and this is another good one. Made a set for my book club and everyone wanted the link. The wax was a little stiff at first. I’d order it again knowing what I know now.

Small enough to take along on a trip. They stack away neatly when I want the table clear. One coaster had a marginally off-center print. Mild quibbles, but a good purchase.

I do these while dinner is in the oven. Great little time filler. The set stacks neatly in the drawer when not in use. I wish the instructions went into a bit more detail for a first-timer. They’re practical enough to actually use, which is the point. I’d recommend it with that one note.

I picked this up on a whim and ended up really enjoying it. Cork on the bottom stops condensation from sticking them down. The holder finish doesn’t quite match the coasters. My daughter wants one now after seeing mine. The autumn colors are richer than the photos show. A solid purchase with a couple of notes.

Bought it to have something to look forward to after work. The artwork looks even better in person than the photos. The edges are finished cleanly, no rough spots. One coaster had a marginally off-center print. I do this while listening to music and the time disappears. Made a set for my sister and now she wants more. I’d recommend it with that one note.

  14. Blake Broderick (verified owner) –

Bought these to replace a tired set and the upgrade is obvious. They’re practical enough to actually use, which is the point. The holder finish doesn’t quite match the coasters. I’d order again, just knowing what to expect.

  15. Tanya Fleming (verified owner) –

Honestly better quality than I expected for the price. The finish is even across the whole piece. The autumn colors are richer than the photos show. Wish the cork backing were a touch thicker. I find it relaxing to just follow the chart and let my mind wander. The finished piece gets compliments from everyone who visits. Minor things, but I’d still buy it again.

  16. Kelli Parsons (verified owner) –

I picked these up to add something handmade to the coffee table. The edges are smooth, so nothing catches on a cloth when I wipe them. Took me a while to get the hang of the multi-placer tip. Perfect for a cozy evening in when you want to keep your hands busy. Good kit — the notes above are minor.

I wanted something I could finish in a sitting or two and these were it. The drills are bright and consistent in size, no weird off-color batches. The packaging arrived a little dented. I worked on this during my lunch breaks and it made the days feel better. Really happy with the end result. Overall a good experience.

I picked this up on a whim and ended up really enjoying it. Finished piece looks even better in person than in the listing photos. Took a bit longer to arrive than I expected. Still a solid purchase.

These are my go-to when I want a small craft that still feels rewarding. Each one took me a couple of hours to finish, quicker than I expected. Really relaxing to do in the evening instead of scrolling. The sorting tray is shallow, drills spill out if you’re not careful. Going to order a few more for Christmas presents. A solid purchase with a couple of notes.

Perfect little kit – not overwhelming like a full canvas. Everyone who sees it asks how long it took. They’re a bit small for a large tumbler. Worth buying, just plan for those small quirks.

I wanted something I could finish in a sitting or two and these were it. The autumn artwork comes together beautifully as you work. No missing colors and nothing short in the high-use shades. They’re a bit small for a large tumbler. Keeps my hands busy during long flights and hotel evenings. The finished piece looks far better than I expected. Worth it despite the small things.

Picked this up during a sale and it was money well spent. The set stacks neatly in the holder on the shelf. The autumn motif makes it feel special. The tray included is on the small side. Nice to have a hobby that leaves you calmer than you started. Minor things, but I’d still buy it again.

I made one the first night just to see how it went, then did the rest over the week. They look lovely stacked in the holder on the coffee table. One bag of drills had come open in transit. I’d recommend it with that one note.

Perfect little kit – not overwhelming like a full canvas. They wipe clean easily, which matters with coffee and kids around. The autumn palette works really well with the design. Shipping took a bit longer than the estimate. It’s my go-to when I want something enjoyable that doesn’t take much thought. Worth it despite the small things.

Perfect little kit – not overwhelming like a full canvas. I love how the autumn colors turned out. A few bags weren’t labeled as clearly as the rest. Each coaster is a good thickness and feels sturdy in the hand. Nice to have something that gets me off my phone for a while. Overall a good experience.

I’ve made several sets of these now as gifts. The autumn pattern is what made me choose this one. Each color was packed generously, I had plenty to spare. I do this while listening to music and the time disappears. The adhesive picked up a bit of dust while I was working over several days. Already ordered another one from DOTZSO. Happy with it, with a few caveats.

This is a genuinely nice kit for the money. The drills came in labeled bags, which made sorting painless. They’re a hit whenever we have people over. There were slightly more drills than needed, so it took longer than planned. Would order again despite the small issues.

This arrived on a rainy Tuesday and turned the week around. The adhesive held firmly without any lifting at the edges. One coaster had a marginally off-center print. I spread it over a week and enjoyed every session. They look like a proper matched set. Would buy again; the notes are minor.

Wasn’t sure what to expect, but I’m very happy with it. The fall pattern is what made me choose this one. Each coaster is a good thickness and feels sturdy in the hand. One coaster had a marginally off-center print. Really soothing to focus on one small area at a time. They get used every single day at our house. Worth buying, just plan for those small quirks.
