Why This Highland Cattle Set Earns Its Place on the Table

The Highland Cattle artwork on this canvas frames a highland cow in close portrait with long shaggy fringe covering the eyes, curved horns and a broad textured coat, worked in warm ginger and russet coat with cream horns against a soft muted field. The overall character is characterful and rustic rather than theatrical. Highland cow portraits became a decor staple because the fringe gives them instant personality. It is for makers who prefer a project with an obvious job at the end. Designed for farmhouse and country interiors, it holds up as decor rather than as something you finish and put in a drawer. Reference BD502. highland cow portraits became a decor staple because the fringe gives them instant personality, and the treatment of the colour is what carries it.

highland cow portraits became a decor staple because the fringe gives them instant personality. In practice that means the finished piece sits comfortably in farmhouse and country interiors, where the characterful character of the palette does the decorating for you.

Every DOTZSO diamond painting kit is built for people who want the make to feel calm and the result to be something they actually use. Contents: colour-printed canvas, DOTZSO resin drills, sorting tray, comfort-grip pen, wax caddy and illustrated step-by-step instructions.

The construction is deliberately simple: anti-slip body, cork backing, seated drill surface. That combination is what keeps the set out of a drawer.

The set runs to 8 coasters, each on the same cork-backed base for a consistent feel in the hand.

What’s in the Box

  • 8 × anti-slip coaster with cork-backed base
  • 1 × display holder / stand
  • DOTZSO signature resin drills, sorted by colour (with extra drills included)
  • Diamond painting tray
  • Comfort-grip applicator pen
  • Wax caddy
  • Pictorial step-by-step instructions

How to Make It

  1. Unroll the canvas on a flat surface and let it settle under something weighted if it has been rolled tight.
  2. Find the legend strip and match the first symbol to its drill colour.
  3. Press the pen tip into the wax caddy, then touch it to a drill – the drill lifts and stays on the tip.
  4. Set the drill onto the matching printed symbol and press lightly. Work one coaster at a time rather than moving across the whole set.
  5. Complete all coasters, then press each finished surface flat with a book for an hour to seat every drill.
  6. Finally, leave the set on the table for a few hours before first use so the drills settle fully.

Complete the set over a few quiet evenings, then put it to work — these are made to be handled.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the Cat coaster set cover everything from start to finish?

Yes. The Cat coaster set ships complete with the stand shown in the product images, so the coasters have somewhere to live when they are not in use, plus the DOTZSO resin drills, tray, applicator pen, wax caddy and pictorial instructions. Nothing else needs sourcing. Reference BD502.

Is the Cat surface sealed well enough for regular use?

Once the drills are seated and the surface is sealed, the Cat design holds under normal use. The cork-backed base is what stops condensation reaching the table, and the sealing step is the single biggest factor in how long the finish lasts. Normal wear leaves the Cat surface unaffected.

How do I keep the Cat coaster set looking its best?

Wipe with a damp cloth and dry immediately. Do not submerge them or put them through a dishwasher — the adhesive layer under the drills is not built for a soak. For the Cat palette, warm greys and soft browns tones show dust less than pale grounds, so a light pass is usually enough. Skip solvent cleaners, which can cloud the Cat resin.

Is the Cat surface fully worked, or is it a partial-drill piece?

The drilled finish and palette are matched across the whole set, but each coaster carries its own printed motif. The Cat artwork is drawn so that a cat settled in profile with tail wrapped forward reads clearly at any distance. The Cat face has no deliberately exposed areas.

How long will the Cat coaster set occupy me?

Roughly 30 to 45 minutes each for most people, so a full set is a few evenings rather than one sitting. The Cat design is calm and companionable, which tends to make it easier to work in short sessions. It fits around other commitments easily.

Is the Cat design one to start with or work up to?

Yes. The symbol key is printed directly on the cork-backed base and the pictorial instructions walk through the whole process, so no prior diamond painting experience is needed. The Cat layout is calm and companionable, which helps on a first attempt. No add-ons are needed.

Was looking for a small diamond art project and these nailed it. I gave a set to my son’s teacher and she was thrilled. The edges could be sealed a bit better for daily use. Still a solid purchase.

I picked this up on a whim and ended up really enjoying it. Good weight to the materials, it doesn’t feel cheap. The pen that came with it is a bit flimsy, I swapped in my own. The repetitive motion is oddly satisfying, one of those simple pleasures. Overall a good experience.

Ordered it after seeing one a friend finished, and I get the appeal now. Each one took me two evenings to finish, quicker than I expected. Perfect for winding down before bed, much better than watching another show. Exactly what I was hoping for.

I do these while dinner is in the oven. Great little time filler. The holder fits all 8 pieces neatly, keeps them from getting lost. I take it to my book club and work on it while we chat. The edges could be sealed a bit better for daily use. Worth buying, just plan for those small quirks.

Bought a set as a hostess gift and kept a set for myself. Nice thickness – not the flimsy cardboard kind. I keep it set up on a side table and do a bit whenever I have ten minutes. It fits perfectly with the decor in the hallway. Would make a great gift too.

  6. Sanjay P. (verified owner) –

Was looking for a small diamond art project and these nailed it. The drills sit nice and flush, no gaps showing the surface underneath. The highland cow palette is softer in person, which I actually prefer. I like having something mindful to do that doesn’t need a screen. Using them on the patio table and they’ve held up fine. Very happy with this purchase.

This was my first order here and it won’t be my last. Colors match the listing photo really closely. I worked on it while the kids did homework. Solid choice, no regrets.

This one caught my eye and I’m glad it did. Cork base means no scratches on our wood table, which I was worried about. If you like cow designs, this is a good one to go for. Quiet Sunday mornings with this and a coffee is my favorite part of the week. Perfect for a cozy evening project.

Bought a set for the camper and they’ve been great. I went with the highland cow version and the colors are lovely. Very pleased with how it came together. The holder is a little loose, the coasters rattle when you move it. I’d recommend it with that one note.

  12. Javier Mullins (verified owner) –

I had a gift card burning a hole in my pocket and this was the pick. They wipe clean easily, which matters with coffee and kids around. One of the 8 coasters had a slightly off-center print. Perfect for winding down before bed, much better than watching another show. A solid purchase with a couple of notes.

Was looking for a small diamond art project and these nailed it. Each one took about an evening, quicker than I expected. I worked on it a little each evening and it added up quickly. They’re a bit small for a large tumbler. It’s the kind of thing guests notice right away. A solid purchase with a couple of notes.

I’ve tried a few brands and this one holds up well. Finished piece looks even better in person than in the listing photos. Only small gripe is that a few drills had little burrs on them. Good kit overall, just a couple of small things.

Such a fun format – one coaster at a time, no big commitment. The thickness makes them feel like real coasters, not craft foam. Really calming, repetitive work, and satisfying when a section is finished. It looks great from a distance and holds up close. Solid kit, would order again.

Got these for the kitchen table and they look so cute. Everything I needed was in the box – pen, wax, tray and tweezers. I keep it set up on a side table and do a bit whenever I have ten minutes. Wish the cork backing were a touch thicker. We actually use them every day, not just display them. Happy enough that I’d buy another.

I wanted something I could finish in a sitting or two and these were it. All eight coasters came out the same size, which isn’t always the case. The highland cow element makes it feel personal. I do a section after work with a cup of tea and it’s a nice way to unwind. One of the 8 coasters had a slightly off-center print. It looks like something from a home decor shop. Worth it despite the small things.

I’ve tried a few brands and this one holds up well. Cork on the bottom stops condensation from sticking them down. It’s a calm, repetitive hobby and that’s exactly what I wanted. It’s a nice conversation piece when people visit. The sorting tray is shallow, drills spill out if you’re not careful. Worth buying, just plan for those small quirks.
