Why This Sunflower Set Earns Its Place on the Table

This Sunflower design shows twin sunflower heads turned at slightly different angles, petals radiating in overlapping rows around a densely seeded centre. The colour work runs through gold and amber petals with deep umber centres against a clear sky blue — an overall feel that is warm and open, never busy. Sunflower designs carry the light of a room without needing the room to be bright — the amber does the work. It fits anyone who wants a handmade set without the upkeep ceramics demand. Designed for kitchens and sunlit rooms, it holds up as decor rather than as something you finish and put in a drawer. Reference BD569. The seed centre is the densest drill area on the canvas and the part that reads most sculptural up close Put simply, sunflower designs carry the light of a room without needing the room to be bright — the amber does the work.

sunflower designs carry the light of a room without needing the room to be bright — the amber does the work. In practice that means the finished piece sits comfortably in kitchens and sunlit rooms, where the warm character of the palette does the decorating for you.

A DOTZSO kit is designed so the making is restful and the finished piece earns its place in the room. Alongside the canvas you get DOTZSO resin drills, a sorting tray, a comfort-grip applicator pen, a wax caddy and pictorial instructions.

What makes this a working set rather than a display piece is underneath – a cork backing that takes the moisture before it reaches the furniture.

Matched drills across all 8 pieces mean the set looks deliberate when stacked or spread out.

  • 8 × anti-slip coaster with cork-backed base
  • 1 × display holder / stand
  • DOTZSO signature resin drills, sorted by colour (with extra drills included)
  • Diamond painting tray
  • Comfort-grip applicator pen
  • Wax caddy

How to Make It

  1. Unroll the canvas on a flat surface and let it settle under something weighted if it has been rolled tight.
  2. Find the legend strip and match the first symbol to its drill colour.
  3. Press the pen tip into the wax caddy, then touch it to a drill – the drill lifts and stays on the tip.
  4. Set the drill onto the matching printed symbol and press lightly. Work one coaster at a time rather than moving across the whole set.
  5. Complete all coasters, then press each finished surface flat with a book for an hour to seat every drill.
  6. Finally, leave the set on the table for a few hours before first use so the drills settle fully.

Finish the set at an easy pace, then leave it on the table rather than boxing it up.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are there hidden extras needed for the Sunflower coaster set?

Yes. The Sunflower coaster set ships complete with the stand shown in the product images, so the coasters have somewhere to live when they are not in use, plus the DOTZSO resin drills, tray, applicator pen, wax caddy and pictorial instructions. Nothing else needs sourcing. Reference BD569.

Does the Sunflower design stay intact with everyday wear?

Once the drills are seated and the surface is sealed, the Sunflower design holds under normal use. The cork-backed base is what stops condensation reaching the table, and the sealing step is the single biggest factor in how long the finish lasts. The main variable is how well the final sealing pass is done.

How do I look after the Sunflower coaster set day to day?

Wipe with a damp cloth and dry immediately. Do not submerge them or put them through a dishwasher — the adhesive layer under the drills is not built for a soak. For the Sunflower palette, gold and amber petals tones show dust less than pale grounds, so a light pass is usually enough. Keeping the Sunflower piece dust-free is the whole routine.

How much of the Sunflower design is covered in drills?

The drilled finish and palette are matched across the whole set, but each coaster carries its own printed motif. The Sunflower artwork is drawn so that twin sunflower heads turned at slightly different angles reads clearly at any distance. No background area of the Sunflower design is left bare.

How demanding is the Sunflower project time-wise?

Roughly 30 to 45 minutes each for most people, so a full set is a few evenings rather than one sitting. The Sunflower design is warm and open, which tends to make it easier to work in short sessions. Plan the Sunflower piece around several sittings.

How easy is the Sunflower coaster set for someone new?

Yes. The symbol key is printed directly on the cork-backed base and the pictorial instructions walk through the whole process, so no prior diamond painting experience is needed. The Sunflower layout is warm and open, which helps on a first attempt. Nothing else needs ordering.

Such a fun format – one coaster at a time, no big commitment. The drills have a nice sparkle to them, not dull or flat. I wish the printed legend was a little bigger. Everyone who comes over picks one up to look at it. Worth buying, just plan for those small quirks.

Perfect little kit – not overwhelming like a full canvas. Really happy with the end result. The packaging was a little crushed on one corner. Would order again despite the small issues.

Bought a set for the camper and they’ve been great. If you like sunflower designs, this is a good example. Made a set for my sister and now she wants more. It only comes in sets, so I couldn’t buy a single extra. Minor gripes aside, I’d buy it again.

  4. Seth Duffy –

This was a birthday gift to myself and it hit the spot. The set stacks neatly in the drawer when not in use. Using them on the patio table and they’ve held up fine. The holder doesn’t match the coasters exactly in finish. Minor gripes aside, I’d buy it again.

  5. NightShiftNina (verified owner) –

I’ve made several sets of these now as gifts. The drills were sorted into clearly marked bags, which saved a lot of time. They’ve survived a house full of guests without a mark. I wish the box were sturdier for storage. Minor quibbles aside, I’d buy it again.

  6. StashBusterSam (verified owner) –

This was my first order here and it won’t be my last. Glue coverage was even, no dry patches anywhere. It’s satisfying to watch a section fill in. They’ve held up without a single scratch. The pen that came with it is a bit flimsy, I swapped in my own. I’d order again, just knowing what to expect.

  7. Caroline Craig (verified owner) –

I took a chance on this and it paid off. The pen grip stayed comfortable through long sessions. The edges could be sealed a little better for daily use. They look lovely stacked in the holder on the coffee table. This is a lovely yellow bloom piece for the price. Mild quibbles, but a good purchase.

  8. Randolph Buckner (verified owner) –

I wanted something I could finish in a sitting or two and these were it. The drills are uniform and sit flat with no gaps. It holds up to a close look, which matters more than I expected. One bag of drills had come open in transit. The sunflower artwork comes together beautifully as you work. A good buy, with one or two caveats.

  9. Ollie Duarte –

Was looking for a small diamond art project and these nailed it. I gave one to my sister and she immediately ordered her own. One of the 8 coasters had a slightly off-center print. Still a solid purchase.

  10. Ethel Lockhart (verified owner) –

Bought a set as a hostess gift and kept a set for myself. Cork on the bottom plus the drill top makes them feel solid. A peaceful project that fits into whatever time you have. One of the 8 coasters had a slightly off-center print. It’s the sort of object that makes a room feel more finished. The yellow bloom colors are richer than the photos show. Would buy again; the notes are minor.

  11. Gertrude David (verified owner) –

Picked this up before a long flight and it saved the trip. The finish on each coaster is consistent across the set. The work never felt like a chore. One of the 8 coasters had a slightly off-center print. Worth it despite the small things.

These coasters have become the little project I look forward to. Spare drills were included, which I appreciated. They’ve replaced the store-bought ones entirely. It only comes in sets, so I couldn’t buy a single extra. Good enough that I’d buy another.

  13. Laurie Novak (verified owner) –

Got these for the kitchen table and they look so cute. Symbols on the chart are printed clearly enough to follow without guessing. Great way to slow down at the end of a busy day. It turned into something I actually want to display, not shove in a drawer. I wish the box were sturdier for storage. A good buy, with one or two caveats.

  14. Stephanie B. –

Ordered on a Monday, had it by the weekend. Nice thickness – not the flimsy cardboard kind. I bring them out for guests and always get asked about them. Wish the cork backing were a touch thicker. The sunflower pattern is what drew me in and it didn’t disappoint. Would order again despite the small issues.

I wanted something I could finish in a sitting or two and these were it. I went with the sunflower version and the colors are lovely. The tray included is on the small side. My daughter wants one now after seeing mine. Happy with it, with a few caveats.

I’ve been eyeing this design for weeks and finally pulled the trigger. It’s the kind of project you feel good about finishing. The holder finish doesn’t quite match the coasters. Worth it despite the small things.

Found this while browsing and couldn’t leave without it. It holds up to a close look, which matters more than I expected. The edges could be sealed a little better for daily use. Minor quibbles aside, I’d buy it again.

  18. Tina Mansfield (verified owner) –

Ordered two so my sister and I could work on them side by side. The cork keeps them from sticking to the table when there’s condensation. One coaster was slightly thicker than the others. I take it to my book club and work on it while we chat. They’ve held up well to daily coffee and tea. Solid overall, just a couple of nitpicks.

  19. Jack B. (verified owner) –

Ordered two kits, this was the one I finished first. The cork backing is a nice touch, they don’t slide around on the table. I brought it on a week at the lake and finished most of it there. The yellow bloom palette is softer in person, which I actually prefer. Wish the cork backing were a touch thicker. Still worth it overall.

I grabbed these to have something small to work on in the evenings. The artwork looks even better in person than the photos. They look like a proper matched set. The holder is a bit loose so they rattle when moved. Good enough that I’d buy another.

I do these while dinner is in the oven. Great little time filler. This is a lovely yellow bloom piece for the price. I’d prefer slightly thicker cork on the base. I’m really proud of how it turned out. Minor quibbles aside, I’d buy it again.

I keep coming back to this shop because the quality is consistent. A useful gift that people actually keep out. The holder is a bit loose so they rattle when moved. Still worth it overall.

  23. Erica Gibson –

I like having a small kit that doesn’t take a month. The yellow bloom palette works really well with the design. One coaster had a marginally off-center print. A useful gift that people actually keep out. Still a solid purchase.

Picked this up before a long flight and it saved the trip. Each one took me two evenings to finish, quicker than I expected. The sunflower palette works really well with the design. A really satisfying project from start to finish. Some colors had very few spare drills. Minor things, but I’d still buy it again.
