About This Butterfly Design

This one works a butterfly with wings held open, each panel showing graded colour from deep centre to translucent edge, antennae and body picked out in fine detail into a Butterfly composition, coloured in iridescent blues and violets shifting toward warm orange at the wing edges. The effect is delicate and alive and unfussy. Butterfly motifs work in the transitional spaces of a home — the places that do not need a theme, just something with life in it. It appeals to anyone who has tried a craft kit and wants a better-made one. Designed for hallways and entryways, it holds up as decor rather than as something you finish and put in a drawer. Reference Q4328. Wing panels are worked as separate colour zones, so the shimmer shifts as you move past the finished piece That is the detail that separates this from a generic Butterfly print.

butterfly motifs work in the transitional spaces of a home — the places that do not need a theme, just something with life in it. It is why the piece settles into hallways and entryways without needing the rest of the scheme to match it.

DOTZSO makes these kits so the evening passes without a screen and the wall ends up with something on it. What arrives: a colour-printed canvas, DOTZSO resin drills, a sorting tray, a comfort-grip applicator pen, a wax caddy and pictorial guidance.

The finished surface is only as good as the placement. Working methodically through the colour blocks is what gives the canvas its even, sharp finish.

Each of the 1 canvases has its own printed key, so nothing needs to be guessed.

What’s in the Box

  • 1 × colour-printed canvas
  • DOTZSO signature resin drills, sorted by colour (with extra drills included)
  • Diamond painting tray
  • Comfort-grip applicator pen
  • Wax caddy
  • Pictorial step-by-step instructions

How to Make It

  1. Unroll the canvas on a flat surface and let it settle under something weighted if it has been rolled tight.
  2. Find the legend strip and match the first symbol to its drill colour.
  3. Press the pen tip into the wax caddy, then touch it to a drill – the drill lifts and stays on the tip.
  4. Set the drill onto the matching printed symbol and press lightly. Work one colour block at a time rather than jumping around the canvas.
  5. Continue until the design is complete, then press the finished surface flat with a book for an hour to seat every drill.
  6. Seat the canvas in its frame, or store it flat, once the surface has been pressed.

Take it section by section, then frame the finished piece and hang it properly.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does this diamond painting kit contain the full Butterfly project?

Yes. The Butterfly diamond painting kit ships complete with everything shown in the product images, so there is nothing else to source, plus the DOTZSO resin drills, tray, applicator pen, wax caddy and pictorial instructions. Nothing else needs sourcing. Reference Q4328.

Will the Butterfly diamond painting kit look the same after a year of use?

Once the drills are seated and the surface is sealed, the Butterfly design holds under normal use. The sealed surface handles normal handling, and the sealing step is the single biggest factor in how long the finish lasts. The main variable is how well the final sealing pass is done.

How should the Butterfly surface be handled during cleaning?

Wipe with a damp cloth and dry immediately. Do not submerge it or put it through a dishwasher — the adhesive layer under the drills is not built for a soak. For the Butterfly palette, iridescent blues and violets shifting toward warm orange at the wing edges tones show dust less than pale grounds, so a light pass is usually enough. Wipe along the drill lines rather than across them.

Is the whole Butterfly surface drilled, or only the subject?

The round resin drills are colour-sorted and matched to the printed symbol key. The Butterfly artwork is drawn so that a butterfly with wings held open reads clearly at any distance. There are no unworked sections on the Butterfly piece.

Is the Butterfly diamond painting kit a quick make or a longer project?

Plan for two to four evenings, depending on the size of the canvas. The Butterfly design is delicate and alive, which tends to make it easier to work in short sessions. It is a comfortable multi-session project.

Can the Butterfly diamond painting kit be a first diamond painting?

Yes. The symbol key is printed directly on the canvas and the pictorial instructions walk through the whole process, so no prior diamond painting experience is needed. The Butterfly layout is delicate and alive, which helps on a first attempt. There is nothing missing from the box.

I hung it in the hallway and people always ask where I got it. The drills cover edge to edge with no bald spots. Nice to have something that gets me off my phone for a while. Gave it to my husband as a gift and it went over really well. Really glad I bought it.

The printed canvas is crisp and the symbols are easy to read. There were extra drills left over in every color when I finished. I brought it on a week at the lake and finished most of it there. Easy recommendation.

This was my first full size canvas and it turned out better than I hoped. Finished piece looks even better in person than in the listing photos. The packaging was a little crushed on one corner. Good kit overall, just a couple of small things.

Picked this up to try something different and really enjoyed it. The glue is tacky enough that I can reposition if I misplace a drill. I take it on the porch in the evenings when the weather is nice. The winged artwork comes together beautifully as you work. I’d order this again.

I bought this to fill the gap between bigger projects. The pen and wax worked fine, I didn’t need to dig out my own tools. Something about placing the drills is very settling. Happy with this one.

  10. Julian Stephens (verified owner) –

I wanted something I could pick up for twenty minutes at a time. The wax and pen that came with it worked fine right out of the box. I did most of it over a lazy weekend and enjoyed every minute. It was worth every evening I spent on it. The wax was a little stiff at first. A solid purchase with a couple of notes.

I hung it in the hallway and people always ask where I got it. Edges have enough margin for framing. Great way to slow down at the end of a busy day. Already ordered another one from DOTZSO. The adhesive picked up a bit of dust while I was working over several days. Happy with it, with a few caveats.
