Butterfly diamond painting kit by DOTZSO — a butterfly with wings held open in iridescent blues and violets shifting toward warm orange at the wing edges. Wing panels are worked as separate colour zones, so the shimmer shifts as you move past the finished piece. It is aimed at makers who care about the finish as much as the process. Everything needed ships in the box: printed canvas, DOTZSO resin drills, tray, pen, wax and instructions.

About This Butterfly Design

The subject here is a butterfly with wings held open, each panel showing graded colour from deep centre to translucent edge, antennae and body picked out in fine detail, set in iridescent blues and violets shifting toward warm orange at the wing edges. Rather than competing for attention, the piece holds a delicate and alive tone. Butterfly motifs work in the transitional spaces of a home — the places that do not need a theme, just something with life in it. It fits a routine that includes regular quiet sessions and a wall still needing art. Designed for hallways and entryways, it holds up as decor rather than as something you finish and put in a drawer. Reference Q4248. Wing panels are worked as separate colour zones, so the shimmer shifts as you move past the finished piece.

butterfly motifs work in the transitional spaces of a home — the places that do not need a theme, just something with life in it. That makes it straightforward to place in hallways and entryways, where the delicate tone already fits.

DOTZSO designs these kits for quiet stretches of making, with a canvas good enough to display when it is done. The package contains a colour-printed canvas, DOTZSO resin drills, a tray, a comfort-grip pen, a wax caddy and a full illustrated reference.

The reason the finished piece looks deliberate rather than homemade is the shade grading. Close colours sit side by side, and the transitions read properly.

The 1-piece format gives you several designs to complete rather than a single canvas.

What’s in the Box

  • 1 × colour-printed canvas
  • DOTZSO signature resin drills, sorted by colour (with extra drills included)
  • Diamond painting tray
  • Comfort-grip applicator pen
  • Wax caddy
  • Pictorial step-by-step instructions

How to Make It

  1. Unroll the canvas on a flat surface and let it settle under something weighted if it has been rolled tight.
  2. Find the legend strip and match the first symbol to its drill colour.
  3. Press the pen tip into the wax caddy, then touch it to a drill – the drill lifts and stays on the tip.
  4. Set the drill onto the matching printed symbol and press lightly. Work one colour block at a time rather than jumping around the canvas.
  5. Continue until the design is complete, then press the finished surface flat with a book for an hour to seat every drill.
  6. Seat the canvas in its frame, or store it flat, once the surface has been pressed.

Give it the evenings it asks for, then frame the result and treat it as wall art.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the diamond painting kit sold as a kit rather than as separate parts?

Yes. The Butterfly diamond painting kit ships complete with everything shown in the product images, so there is nothing else to source, plus the DOTZSO resin drills, tray, applicator pen, wax caddy and pictorial instructions. Nothing else needs sourcing. Reference Q4248.

Will the Butterfly artwork survive being used rather than framed?

Once the drills are seated and the surface is sealed, the Butterfly design holds under normal use. The sealed surface handles normal handling, and the sealing step is the single biggest factor in how long the finish lasts. The Butterfly finish is designed to be used, not just looked at.

How do I maintain the Butterfly finish?

Wipe with a damp cloth and dry immediately. Do not submerge it or put it through a dishwasher — the adhesive layer under the drills is not built for a soak. For the Butterfly palette, iridescent blues and violets shifting toward warm orange at the wing edges tones show dust less than pale grounds, so a light pass is usually enough. Do not leave liquid standing on the Butterfly surface.

Does the Butterfly diamond painting kit leave any background showing?

The round resin drills are colour-sorted and matched to the printed symbol key. The Butterfly artwork is drawn so that a butterfly with wings held open reads clearly at any distance. All of the Butterfly face is drill-covered.

What is the pace of the Butterfly project?

Plan for two to four evenings, depending on the size of the canvas. The Butterfly design is delicate and alive, which tends to make it easier to work in short sessions. Working the Butterfly design in stages keeps it enjoyable.

Is the Butterfly diamond painting kit easy to pick up?

Yes. The symbol key is printed directly on the canvas and the pictorial instructions walk through the whole process, so no prior diamond painting experience is needed. The Butterfly layout is delicate and alive, which helps on a first attempt. Every component ships in the same package.

I don’t usually leave reviews but this one deserved it. Print quality is sharp, the winged detail really comes through. Once it was framed it really pulled the room together. Would have liked the drills pre-sorted by color. Minor things, but I’d still buy it again.

  2. Denise French (verified owner) –

I wanted a full-size piece for the wall above the couch. The legend printed on the canvas is handy to have. I set it up next to the window and do a few rows whenever the light is good. It reads as a proper piece of art. The glue was slightly tacky in one corner. Worth buying, just plan for those small quirks.

This was my first diamond painting kit and I’m officially hooked. The canvas is a good weight and the print underneath is detailed. Instructions were pretty minimal, though there are plenty of tutorials online. I do a section after work with a cup of tea and it’s a nice way to unwind. Minor things, but I’d still buy it again.

  4. Sarah T. (verified owner) –

Ordered it after seeing one a friend finished, and I get the appeal now. Everything I needed was in the box – pen, wax, tray and tweezers. Packaging was tidy and nothing had spilled in transit. I do it at the kitchen table while dinner simmers. I wish the printed legend was a little bigger. I’ll be buying more from this shop. Still worth it overall.

  5. Sam Beaumont (verified owner) –

The color range on this one is impressive. It looks like a gallery print from across the room. The adhesive attracted a little dust over the weeks. Worth it despite the small things.

  6. Lonnie Tucker (verified owner) –

Bought this as a centerpiece project for the season. The legend printed on the canvas is handy to have. I do this on the porch in the summer and it’s lovely. I had to press the canvas under books overnight before starting. Really pleased with how it turned out. Worth buying, just plan for those small quirks.

  7. Doris Sharp (verified owner) –

Arrived well packed and ready to start. The canvas is a good weight with a detailed print underneath. Drill colors are well separated, no squinting to tell two shades apart. Nice to have a hobby that leaves you calmer than you started. It fills the wall above the sofa nicely. It arrived folded rather than rolled and took time to flatten. Small issues, but nothing that would stop me ordering again.

Bought it to have something to look forward to after work. The winged artwork looks great up on the wall. Hung it in the hallway and it brightens the whole space. The wax ran low before I finished the last section. Small issues, but nothing that would stop me ordering again.

  9. Terrance Perry (verified owner) –

Bought this to fill a blank wall and it did the job. The glue is tacky enough that I can reposition if I misplace a drill. It’s a calm, repetitive hobby and that’s exactly what I wanted. I had to press the canvas under books overnight before starting. A solid purchase with a couple of notes.

  10. Sierra Velasquez (verified owner) –

Took me about a month of evenings and I’d do it again. The drills came in labeled bags, which made sorting painless. The adhesive is plenty sticky, the drills stay exactly where I put them. Nice to have a hobby that leaves you calmer than you started. The finished piece looks stunning in natural light. The multi-placer tip took some practice. Minor quibbles aside, I’d buy it again.

My sister got me into these and this is my latest one. The butterfly motif makes it feel special. The symbols are small in the detailed areas. The higher color count really shows in the finished piece. It’s the nicest thing I’ve made so far. Good kit overall, just a couple of small things.

  12. Mattie Sanchez –

Took me about a month of evenings and I’d do it again. Legend is printed on the canvas itself, which I find handy. The symbols are quite small in the detailed areas. Gave it to my niece as a gift and it went over really well. Happy with it, with one small caveat.

This kept me busy through the whole winter. This is a lovely butterfly piece for the price. It’s the centerpiece of that wall. The wax ran low before I finished the last section. Small issues, but nothing that would stop me ordering again.

  14. Paula Sosa (verified owner) –

I’ve done smaller kits and this felt like a proper project. It’s hanging in the Family room now and looks great. The symbols are quite small in the detailed areas. I’d order again, just knowing what to expect.

  15. Ruby Gallagher –

I framed it once finished and it looks like real artwork. The canvas didn’t dry out over the weeks I worked on it. I had to press the canvas under books overnight before starting. I work on it while listening to an audiobook and the time just disappears. Small issues, but nothing that would stop me ordering again.

  16. Jorge Hooker (verified owner) –

Such a nice little project to have on the go. Drills cover edge to edge with no bald spots. The drills sit nice and flush, no gaps showing the surface underneath. It’s become my evening ritual – an hour of this and I feel settled. The result looks handmade in the best way. The sorting tray is shallow, drills spill out if you’re not careful. Solid overall, just a couple of nitpicks.

  17. Rufus Sosa (verified owner) –

I hung it in the hallway and people always ask where I got it. The legend printed on the canvas is handy to have. The drills are bright and consistent in size, no weird off-color batches. Took longer than the estimated time, but that’s on me. It’s the kind of hobby that makes an evening feel well spent. Framed in a simple black frame and it looks like real art. Minor things, but I’d still buy it again.

  18. Nora Harrington –

Such an easy kit to get going with. The drills sit nice and flush, no gaps showing the surface underneath. Genuinely peaceful to work on one row at a time. Once it was framed it really pulled the room together. I had to press the canvas under books overnight before starting. The butterfly palette works really well with the design. Minor things, but I’d still buy it again.

My third kit from this shop and still really pleased. It fills the wall above the sofa beautifully. I had to press the canvas under books overnight before starting. This is a lovely winged piece for the price. I’d recommend it with that one note.

  20. Alyssa Rios (verified owner) –

The finished size makes a real statement on the wall. This is a lovely winged piece for the price. There were extra drills left over in every color when I finished. I do this instead of scrolling and feel much better for it. Looks beautiful in our living room, the colors tie everything together. The glue picked up a bit of dust over the weeks I worked on it. Would still recommend it.

I hung it in the hallway and people always ask where I got it. Symbols are printed clearly even in the busy areas of the butterfly section. Looks beautiful in our living room, the colors tie everything together. Some colors came with barely any extras, though I didn’t run out. The butterfly design is even prettier in person than in the photos. Good kit overall, just a couple of small things.

  22. Dana Tran –

I don’t usually leave reviews but this one deserved it. The canvas came rolled, and it flattened out with no creases. Looks lovely framed and hung up. Some colors had very few spare drills. I’d order again, just knowing what to expect.

  23. Joel Prince (verified owner) –

This is my first large-format kit and the pacing works well. The finished work looks considered, not like a craft project. The printed symbols in one dense area were a little tight. I’d order it again knowing what I know now.

  24. Rafael Rhodes (verified owner) –

Been doing these for about two years and this kit is solid. The sparkle on these drills is genuinely nice. The canvas feels substantial, not thin or flimsy. I set it up next to the window and do a few rows whenever the light is good. The adhesive picked up a bit of dust while I was working over several days. Hung it in the hallway and it brightens the whole space. Would order again despite the small issues.
