About This Butterfly Design

A butterfly with wings held open, each panel showing graded colour from deep centre to translucent edge, antennae and body picked out in fine detail forms the subject of this Butterfly piece, worked in iridescent blues and violets shifting toward warm orange at the wing edges. The character is delicate and alive, and it stays that way at any distance. Butterfly motifs work in the transitional spaces of a home — the places that do not need a theme, just something with life in it. It is aimed at makers who care about the finish as much as the process. Designed for hallways and entryways, it holds up as decor rather than as something you finish and put in a drawer. Reference Q4886. Butterfly motifs work in the transitional spaces of a home — the places that do not need a theme, just something with life in it.

butterfly motifs work in the transitional spaces of a home — the places that do not need a theme, just something with life in it. In hallways and entryways the piece holds its own against the surrounding colour rather than fighting it.

DOTZSO assembles each kit so the colour key is clear and the sessions stay unhurried. The box holds a colour-printed canvas, DOTZSO resin drills, a sorting tray, a comfort-grip applicator pen, a wax caddy and pictorial instructions.

Full drill means no bare canvas showing through. The finish is therefore uniform, and the piece reads as a single surface rather than a set of filled-in areas.

A single printed canvas is supplied, so there is no need to manage several designs at once.

What’s in the Box

  • 1 × colour-printed canvas
  • DOTZSO signature resin drills, sorted by colour (with extra drills included)
  • Diamond painting tray
  • Comfort-grip applicator pen
  • Wax caddy
  • Pictorial step-by-step instructions

How to Make It

  1. Unroll the canvas on a flat surface and let it settle under something weighted if it has been rolled tight.
  2. Find the legend strip and match the first symbol to its drill colour.
  3. Press the pen tip into the wax caddy, then touch it to a drill – the drill lifts and stays on the tip.
  4. Set the drill onto the matching printed symbol and press lightly. Work one colour block at a time rather than jumping around the canvas.
  5. Continue until the design is complete, then press the finished surface flat with a book for an hour to seat every drill.
  6. Seat the canvas in its frame, or store it flat, once the surface has been pressed.

Take the making steadily, then frame the finished work and treat it as decor.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does this Butterfly diamond painting kit include the tools as well as the project?

Yes. The Butterfly diamond painting kit ships complete with everything shown in the product images, so there is nothing else to source, plus the DOTZSO resin drills, tray, applicator pen, wax caddy and pictorial instructions. Nothing else needs sourcing. Reference Q4886.

Will the Butterfly surface keep its finish with regular contact?

Once the drills are seated and the surface is sealed, the Butterfly design holds under normal use. The sealed surface handles normal handling, and the sealing step is the single biggest factor in how long the finish lasts. There is no delicate stage once the Butterfly work is sealed.

What cleaning method suits the Butterfly design?

Wipe with a damp cloth and dry immediately. Do not submerge it or put it through a dishwasher — the adhesive layer under the drills is not built for a soak. For the Butterfly palette, iridescent blues and violets shifting toward warm orange at the wing edges tones show dust less than pale grounds, so a light pass is usually enough. There is no need for anything stronger than a damp cloth.

Does the Butterfly artwork use drills throughout?

The round resin drills are colour-sorted and matched to the printed symbol key. The Butterfly artwork is drawn so that a butterfly with wings held open reads clearly at any distance. The Butterfly face has no deliberately exposed areas.

Does the Butterfly project run over several days?

Plan for two to four evenings, depending on the size of the canvas. The Butterfly design is delicate and alive, which tends to make it easier to work in short sessions. Many people work it over a week of evenings.

How beginner-friendly is the Butterfly diamond painting kit?

Yes. The symbol key is printed directly on the canvas and the pictorial instructions walk through the whole process, so no prior diamond painting experience is needed. The Butterfly layout is delicate and alive, which helps on a first attempt. All the essentials come in the box.

This arrived in perfect condition, nothing bent or spilled. Really proud to have this hanging in the house. Took me a while to get the hang of the multi-placer tip. Would order again despite the small issues.

This was my first full size canvas and it turned out better than I hoped. Each color was packed generously, I had plenty to spare. It’s the kind of project that feels creative without being stressful. It fills the wall above the sofa nicely. The symbols are quite small in the detailed areas. Good kit overall, just a couple of small things.

  3. Ann Sellers (verified owner) –

Bought this as a centerpiece project for the season. It’s up in the hallway and gets noticed. It arrived folded rather than rolled and took time to flatten. I went with the butterfly version and the colors are lovely. A solid purchase with a couple of notes.

The detail on this canvas is really nice up close. It was worth every evening I put into it. The box arrived a bit dented, though nothing inside was damaged. Good kit overall, just a couple of small things.

The detail on this canvas is what sold me. Edges have enough margin for framing. It arrived folded rather than rolled and took time to flatten. I like having something mindful to do that doesn’t need a screen. Overall happy, just a few small things.

  6. Lucille Connor (verified owner) –

Bought this as a centerpiece project for the season. The fabric has a good weight to it and hangs flat. I did a little at a time and it never felt like a slog. The overall look is clean and cohesive. A few bags weren’t labeled as clearly as the rest. Happy with it, with a few caveats.

Grabbed this on a whim after a long week. Once it was framed it really pulled the room together. Shipping took a few days longer than I expected. Still a solid purchase.

  8. Vernon Perkins (verified owner) –

I framed it once finished and it looks like real artwork. I’m a sucker for anything winged-themed. Packaging was tidy and nothing had spilled in transit. This is the kind of craft that’s genuinely calming after a hectic day. Very pleased with how it came together. A few drills were stuck together and needed separating. I’d order it again knowing what I know now.

So glad I added this one to my cart. No missing colors and no shortage on the ones used most. The canvas smell was noticeable for the first day or two. Really happy with the end result. I’d recommend it with that one note.

  10. Xavier Glover (verified owner) –

Took me about a month of evenings and I’d do it again. Full drill coverage means no blank canvas showing through. The drills came in labeled bags, which made sorting painless. The winged palette works really well with the design. The symbols are quite small in the detailed areas. It’s become my evening ritual – an hour of this and I feel settled. It looks stunning in natural light. I’d recommend it with that one note.

The printed canvas is crisp and the symbols are easy to read. The winged motif is what drew me in. I’d have liked the border a touch wider for framing. Gave it to my dentist’s receptionist as a gift and it went over really well. Still glad I ordered it overall.

This kept me busy for a solid month in the best way. It reads as a proper piece of art. I pressed it under books overnight before starting. Happy with it, with one small caveat.

The color range on this one is impressive. Nice large format, the finished piece makes a real statement. It arrived folded rather than rolled and took time to flatten. Hung it in the hallway and it brightens the whole space. Would order again despite the small issues.

  14. Marie Owens (verified owner) –

This is the largest kit I’ve done and it turned out beautifully. The legend printed on the canvas is handy to have. I do this on the porch in the summer and it’s lovely. The winged colors are richer than the photos show. Took a bit longer to arrive than I expected. Framed in a simple black frame and it looks like real art. I’d recommend it with that one note.

  15. Vanessa Briggs (verified owner) –

Picked this up to try something different and really enjoyed it. The canvas didn’t dry out over the weeks I worked on it. It looks stunning in natural light. The symbols are small in the detailed areas. Good kit overall, just a couple of small things.

  16. Otis Stout (verified owner) –

Took me a few weeks of evenings and I loved every minute. Symbols are readable even in the busiest sections. I worked on this with my mother and we both got absorbed in it. The winged palette works really well with the design. Took a bit longer to arrive than I expected. Worth the time it took. Would order again despite the small issues.

  17. Felix Weiss (verified owner) –

This one took some patience but the result is stunning. I went with the butterfly version and the colors are lovely. The canvas printing is crisp and the symbols are easy to read, even in low light. Nice to have a hobby that leaves you calmer than you started. The canvas had a faint mark from the printing on one edge. Minor things, but I’d still buy it again.

  18. Noah Dawson (verified owner) –

Took me about a month of evenings and I’d do it again. Color count is higher than my earlier kits, which shows in the finished piece. Once framed it looks like something you’d buy in a gallery. Took a bit longer to arrive than I expected. Would still recommend it.

  19. Cory Mann (verified owner) –

The printed canvas is crisp and the symbols are easy to read. The adhesive is plenty sticky, the drills stay exactly where I put them. It reads as a deliberate design choice, not a craft. The canvas arrived rolled tightly and needed a night to flatten. Solid overall, just a couple of nitpicks.

  20. Lindsay Kramer –

I framed it once finished and it looks like real artwork. It’s the kind of project you feel good about finishing. Shipping took a bit longer than the estimate. A good buy, with one or two caveats.
