About This Butterfly Design

This canvas takes a butterfly with wings held open, each panel showing graded colour from deep centre to translucent edge, antennae and body picked out in fine detail as its subject, rendered in iridescent blues and violets shifting toward warm orange at the wing edges. The mood settles at delicate and alive, which is what keeps it easy to live with. Butterfly motifs work in the transitional spaces of a home — the places that do not need a theme, just something with life in it. It fits anyone who needs a reason to put the phone down for a few evenings. Designed for hallways and entryways, it holds up as decor rather than as something you finish and put in a drawer. Reference Q4885. Butterfly motifs work in the transitional spaces of a home — the places that do not need a theme, just something with life in it It is also why the piece keeps working after the novelty fades.

butterfly motifs work in the transitional spaces of a home — the places that do not need a theme, just something with life in it. That is what puts it at home in hallways and entryways, with the delicate tone of the colours carrying the room.

A DOTZSO canvas is meant to replace a scrolling evening with something that leaves a finished object behind. Packed with the canvas are DOTZSO resin drills, a sorting tray, a comfort-grip applicator pen, a wax caddy and step-by-step pictorial guidance.

The drills are graded by shade rather than approximate colour. That is what gives the finished piece its transitions, and why the canvas holds up when you step back from it.

The kit is built around one canvas, which keeps the process simple and the framing easy.

What’s in the Box

  • 1 × colour-printed canvas
  • DOTZSO signature resin drills, sorted by colour (with extra drills included)
  • Diamond painting tray
  • Comfort-grip applicator pen
  • Wax caddy
  • Pictorial step-by-step instructions

How to Make It

  1. Unroll the canvas on a flat surface and let it settle under something weighted if it has been rolled tight.
  2. Find the legend strip and match the first symbol to its drill colour.
  3. Press the pen tip into the wax caddy, then touch it to a drill – the drill lifts and stays on the tip.
  4. Set the drill onto the matching printed symbol and press lightly. Work one colour block at a time rather than jumping around the canvas.
  5. Continue until the design is complete, then press the finished surface flat with a book for an hour to seat every drill.
  6. Seat the canvas in its frame, or store it flat, once the surface has been pressed.

Go through it block by block, then frame the canvas and hang it where it will be seen daily.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the Butterfly diamond painting kit a complete set for the money?

Yes. The Butterfly diamond painting kit ships complete with everything shown in the product images, so there is nothing else to source, plus the DOTZSO resin drills, tray, applicator pen, wax caddy and pictorial instructions. Nothing else needs sourcing. Reference Q4885.

Is the Butterfly surface tough enough for daily contact?

Once the drills are seated and the surface is sealed, the Butterfly design holds under normal use. The sealed surface handles normal handling, and the sealing step is the single biggest factor in how long the finish lasts. It is a working finish rather than a display-only one.

What is the simplest way to care for the Butterfly diamond painting kit?

Wipe with a damp cloth and dry immediately. Do not submerge it or put it through a dishwasher — the adhesive layer under the drills is not built for a soak. For the Butterfly palette, iridescent blues and violets shifting toward warm orange at the wing edges tones show dust less than pale grounds, so a light pass is usually enough. Handle the Butterfly piece with dry hands where possible.

Does the Butterfly design use drills throughout?

The round resin drills are colour-sorted and matched to the printed symbol key. The Butterfly artwork is drawn so that a butterfly with wings held open reads clearly at any distance. The Butterfly artwork is fully drilled rather than partly printed.

Will the Butterfly diamond painting kit take more than one session?

Plan for two to four evenings, depending on the size of the canvas. The Butterfly design is delicate and alive, which tends to make it easier to work in short sessions. It fits around other commitments easily.

How much prior knowledge does the Butterfly design need?

Yes. The symbol key is printed directly on the canvas and the pictorial instructions walk through the whole process, so no prior diamond painting experience is needed. The Butterfly layout is delicate and alive, which helps on a first attempt. The package covers the whole project.

This one took some patience but the result is stunning. Edges have enough margin for framing. The drills are bright and consistent in size, no weird off-color batches. Great way to slow down at the end of a busy day. The canvas smell was noticeable for the first day or two. It was worth every evening I spent on it. The flower artwork looks great up on the wall. Happy with it, with a few caveats.

Bigger than it looks in the photos, which was a nice surprise. The canvas didn’t dry out over the weeks I worked on it. Some colors came with barely any extras, though I didn’t run out. It’s the nicest thing I’ve made so far. Good kit overall, just a couple of small things.

I hung it in the hallway and people always ask where I got it. Edges have enough margin for framing. It’s my go-to when I want something enjoyable that doesn’t take much thought. Once it was framed it really pulled the room together. The glue picked up a bit of dust over the weeks I worked on it. Still a solid purchase.

I’ve tried a few brands and this one holds up well. It was worth every evening I spent on it. The packaging was a little crushed on one corner. Would order again despite the small issues.

Bigger than it looks in the photos, which was a nice surprise. The canvas came rolled, and it flattened out with no creases. The canvas was creased on arrival and needed time to flatten. I found the whole thing very easy to settle into. Happy with it, with one small caveat.

Really nice kit, especially for the money. Color count is higher than my earlier kits, which shows in the finished piece. I’ve been doing it in the evenings with my partner, we take turns on sections. Would have liked the drills pre-sorted by color. Would order again despite the small issues.

The detail on this canvas is really nice up close. Good quality drills with clean edges, not chipped. It’s a big piece, so it does take real commitment. It’s the kind of task that quiets a busy mind. It looks stunning in natural light. Would still recommend it.

This canvas looked good online and better in person. It fills the wall above the sofa beautifully. The canvas arrived rolled tightly and needed a night to flatten. Would recommend it with those notes.

  9. Jamal Robles (verified owner) –

This canvas looked good online and better in person. There’s enough white space at the border for framing without cropping. The winged element makes it feel personal. The kit came complete, nothing extra needed from the craft store. I set aside twenty minutes a night for this and it’s become a ritual. It’s on the wall in my office and I still look at it. The wax ran low before I finished the last section. Good kit overall, just a couple of small things.

I’ve done a handful of these now and this one is up there with the best. The drills are bright and consistent in size, no weird off-color batches. The colors work beautifully with the room. The symbols are quite small in the detailed areas. Overall a good experience.

I framed it once finished and it looks like real artwork. Print quality is sharp, the flower detail really comes through. The packaging was a little crushed on one corner. Once framed it looks like something you’d buy in a gallery. I’d recommend it with that one note.

I framed mine and it looks like a real painting. The canvas didn’t dry out over the weeks I worked on it. The winged colors are richer than the photos show. Pre-sorted drills would save time. I put on an audiobook and worked through it in a few sittings. It looks stunning in natural light. Overall a good experience.

This was my first full size canvas and it turned out better than I hoped. Once it was framed it really pulled the room together. I had to press the canvas under books overnight before starting. I’d recommend it with that one note.

Bought this for the living room wall and it was worth the time. Definitely ordering more as gifts. I’d have liked a slightly longer chart, but it was workable. I’d order again, just knowing what to expect.

  15. Inez Kessler –

Bought this to fill a blank wall and it did the job. This is a lovely butterfly piece for the price. It looks like a gallery piece now that it’s framed. The canvas had a faint mark from the printing on one edge. Good enough that I’d buy another.

  16. Richard Rios –

The printed canvas is crisp and the symbols are easy to read. Symbol letters are small but legible, and the legend helped a lot. I keep it set up on a side table and do a bit whenever I have ten minutes. It’s framed and hanging above the couch. The glue was slightly tacky in one corner. Worth it, just go in with the right expectations.

Bought this for the living room wall and it was worth the time. The definition in the fine details holds up well. A peaceful project that fits into whatever time you have. The adhesive picked up lint over the days I worked on it. Once framed it looks like something you’d buy in a gallery. Overall happy, just a few small things.

So glad I added this one to my cart. The backing held up fine and didn’t peel anywhere. The drills are uniform and sit flat with no gaps. Perfect for a cozy evening in when you want to keep your hands busy. The canvas arrived folded rather than rolled, took a while to flatten. It’s framed and hanging in the living room. Still a good kit overall.

I hung it in the hallway and people always ask where I got it. The drills came in labeled bags, which made sorting painless. I found it really peaceful to focus on one small area at a time. The butterfly colors are richer than the photos show. I wish the printed legend was a little bigger. Minor quibbles aside, I’d buy it again.

This was my first full size canvas and it turned out better than I hoped. Drills cover edge to edge with no bald spots. The legend was easy to follow and matched the canvas printing. I’ve been doing it in the evenings with my partner, we take turns on sections. It’s framed and hanging in the living room. Took longer than the estimated time, but that’s on me. A solid purchase with a couple of notes.

Picked this up before a long flight and it saved the trip. The backing held up fine and didn’t peel anywhere. I do this on the porch in the summer and it’s lovely. The canvas had a slight crease from shipping, though it flattened out. It’s the kind of thing people ask about when they see it. Small things aside, it’s a good buy.

Bought this for the living room wall and it was worth the time. The drills cover edge to edge with no bald spots. Nice to have a hobby that leaves you calmer than you started. It’s hanging in the Family room now and looks great. There were slightly more drills than needed, so it took longer than planned. Good enough that I’d buy another.
