About This Butterfly Design

Here the Butterfly motif is built around a butterfly with wings held open, each panel showing graded colour from deep centre to translucent edge, antennae and body picked out in fine detail, carried by iridescent blues and violets shifting toward warm orange at the wing edges. The result reads as delicate and alive — considered rather than busy. Butterfly motifs work in the transitional spaces of a home — the places that do not need a theme, just something with life in it. It is for people who want a project long enough to matter but calm enough to enjoy. Designed for hallways and entryways, it holds up as decor rather than as something you finish and put in a drawer. Reference Q4884. butterfly motifs work in the transitional spaces of a home — the places that do not need a theme, just something with life in it. That is the part that matters most here.

butterfly motifs work in the transitional spaces of a home — the places that do not need a theme, just something with life in it. Hung in hallways and entryways, the delicate palette does the work and the artwork stays understated.

Built by DOTZSO for regular makers, this kit rewards patience rather than speed. The kit contains a colour-printed canvas, DOTZSO resin drills, a sorting tray, a comfort-grip applicator pen, a wax caddy and pictorial steps.

Placement accuracy is what makes a diamond canvas look sharp at a distance. Working one colour block at a time is the fastest route to that finish and the least tiring way there.

One canvas, printed to full drill, so the project stays focused on a single design.

What’s in the Box

  • 1 × colour-printed canvas
  • DOTZSO signature resin drills, sorted by colour (with extra drills included)
  • Diamond painting tray
  • Comfort-grip applicator pen
  • Wax caddy
  • Pictorial step-by-step instructions

How to Make It

  1. Unroll the canvas on a flat surface and let it settle under something weighted if it has been rolled tight.
  2. Find the legend strip and match the first symbol to its drill colour.
  3. Press the pen tip into the wax caddy, then touch it to a drill – the drill lifts and stays on the tip.
  4. Set the drill onto the matching printed symbol and press lightly. Work one colour block at a time rather than jumping around the canvas.
  5. Continue until the design is complete, then press the finished surface flat with a book for an hour to seat every drill.
  6. Seat the canvas in its frame, or store it flat, once the surface has been pressed.

Finish it whenever suits, then frame it — this one is designed to be looked at.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will I need to buy anything else to finish this diamond painting kit?

Yes. The Butterfly diamond painting kit ships complete with everything shown in the product images, so there is nothing else to source, plus the DOTZSO resin drills, tray, applicator pen, wax caddy and pictorial instructions. Nothing else needs sourcing. Reference Q4884.

Is the Butterfly piece reliable once finished?

Once the drills are seated and the surface is sealed, the Butterfly design holds under normal use. The sealed surface handles normal handling, and the sealing step is the single biggest factor in how long the finish lasts. The sealing step at the end is what locks it in.

Is the Butterfly design easy to keep presentable?

Wipe with a damp cloth and dry immediately. Do not submerge it or put it through a dishwasher — the adhesive layer under the drills is not built for a soak. For the Butterfly palette, iridescent blues and violets shifting toward warm orange at the wing edges tones show dust less than pale grounds, so a light pass is usually enough. Avoid dishwashers entirely for the Butterfly piece.

Is there any bare surface on the Butterfly diamond painting kit?

The round resin drills are colour-sorted and matched to the printed symbol key. The Butterfly artwork is drawn so that a butterfly with wings held open reads clearly at any distance. Every part of the Butterfly design is worked.

Is the Butterfly project a quick one or a long one?

Plan for two to four evenings, depending on the size of the canvas. The Butterfly design is delicate and alive, which tends to make it easier to work in short sessions. Longer if you prefer to work the Butterfly design slowly.

Does the Butterfly design assume any prior skill?

Yes. The symbol key is printed directly on the canvas and the pictorial instructions walk through the whole process, so no prior diamond painting experience is needed. The Butterfly layout is delicate and alive, which helps on a first attempt. No add-ons are needed.

Bigger than it looks in the photos, which was a nice surprise. The butterfly detail comes together really nicely once it’s finished. The sorting tray is shallow, drills spill out if you’re not careful. It was worth every evening I spent on it. Worth buying, just plan for those small quirks.

Grabbed this on a whim after a long week. The adhesive is evenly applied across the whole canvas. Quiet Sunday mornings with this and a coffee is my favorite part of the week. The multi-placer tip took some practice. It looks like a gallery piece now that it’s framed. Happy with it despite the small stuff.

  3. Audrey Bonner (verified owner) –

Took me about a month of evenings and I’d do it again. Good weight to the materials, it doesn’t feel cheap. I kept it by the window and worked on it in the afternoons. The adhesive attracted a little dust over the weeks. It’s large enough to be a real statement piece. Overall a good experience.

This kept me busy for a solid month in the best way. The chart on the side of the canvas is clear and easy to follow. Gave it to my niece as a gift and it went over really well. The canvas smell was noticeable for the first day or two. Would order again despite the small issues.

Picked this up before a long flight and it saved the trip. The finished look is polished and put together. I had to press the canvas under books overnight before starting. Still a good kit overall.

  6. Cody W. (verified owner) –

I hung it in the hallway and people always ask where I got it. The canvas came rolled, and it flattened out with no creases. Did most of it over a long weekend and it was such a pleasant way to pass the time. The winged subject is rendered with more detail than I expected. A couple of the darker shades were hard to tell apart in low light. Worth buying, just plan for those small quirks.

This was a birthday gift to myself and it hit the spot. No missing colors and no shortage on the ones used most. I kept it by the window and worked on it in the afternoons. The canvas arrived rolled tightly and needed a night to flatten. It’s on the wall in my office and I still look at it. A good buy, with one or two caveats.

The detail on this canvas is really nice up close. The drill shapes were clean, not many chipped or stuck-together pieces. Did most of it over a long weekend and it was such a pleasant way to pass the time. Took me a while to get the hang of the multi-placer tip. Would order again despite the small issues.

I wanted a full-size piece for the wall above the couch. The large format makes a real statement when finished. Once framed it looks like something you’d buy in a gallery. The canvas smell was noticeable for the first day or two. If you like winged designs, this is a good example. Good kit overall, just a couple of small things.

  10. Nick Farmer (verified owner) –

This is the largest kit I’ve done and it turned out beautifully. If you like winged designs, this is a good example. The canvas grid lines are printed clearly enough to keep count. Perfect for a cozy evening in when you want to keep your hands busy. A few drills had rough edges that needed picking off. Solid overall, just a couple of nitpicks.

I wanted a full-size piece for the wall above the couch. The large format makes a real statement when finished. The butterfly motif makes it feel special. A couple of the darker shades were hard to tell apart. It’s the sort of project that makes an evening feel well spent. It’s on the wall in my office and I still look at it. Worth it despite the small things.

Bigger than it looks in the photos, which was a nice surprise. The drills came in labeled bags, which made sorting painless. Framed in a simple black frame and it looks like real art. Took me a while to get the hang of the multi-placer tip. Overall a good experience.

Came quickly and was packaged really well. The definition in the fine details holds up well. I’d have liked the border a touch wider for framing. I worked through this over a few weeks of evenings and loved it. I’d recommend it with that one note.

Bigger than it looks in the photos, which was a nice surprise. Looks lovely framed and hung up. The pen that came with it is a bit flimsy, I swapped in my own. Overall a good experience.

  15. Bryan Valencia (verified owner) –

Ordered this after finishing a smaller canvas and wanting more detail. Edges have enough margin for framing. I did a little at a time and it never felt like a slog. I’d have preferred more spare drills in the least-used color. It looks far more detailed than the kit suggested. Worth it despite the small things.

Bigger than it looks in the photos, which was a nice surprise. The drills cover edge to edge with no bald spots. Symbols on the chart are printed clearly enough to follow without guessing. I did most of it over a lazy weekend and enjoyed every minute. It turned out better than I pictured. Shipping took a bit longer than the estimate. Happy enough that I’d buy another.

Ordered it after seeing one a friend finished, and I get the appeal now. Looks lovely framed and hung up. The butterfly artwork comes together beautifully as you work. The wax ran out before I finished and I had to use my own. Still worth it overall.

This is the largest kit I’ve done and it turned out beautifully. The glue is tacky enough to reposition a misplaced drill. The adhesive attracted a little dust over the weeks. I do a section a night with a podcast on. Made this as a gift for my parents’ anniversary. Minor quibbles aside, I’d buy it again.

Came quickly and was packaged really well. Symbols on the chart are printed clearly enough to follow without guessing. The canvas printing is crisp and the symbols are easy to read, even in low light. I do this on the porch in the summer and it’s lovely. Really proud to have this hanging in the house. A couple of the darker shades were hard to tell apart in low light. Worth buying, just plan for those small quirks.

  20. Jamal Porter (verified owner) –

This arrived in perfect condition, nothing bent or spilled. The canvas didn’t dry out over the weeks I worked on it. Great way to slow down at the end of a busy day. The symbols are small in the detailed areas. The butterfly artwork comes together beautifully as you work. It looks stunning in natural light. Good enough that I’d buy another.

This one took some patience but the result is stunning. The canvas didn’t dry out over the weeks I worked on it. If you like butterfly designs, this is a good one to go for. The glue picked up a bit of dust over the weeks I worked on it. Perfect for winding down before bed, much better than watching another show. Would make a really nice gift, and it arrives boxed nicely. Would order again despite the small issues.

Took it slow, a section at a time, and really enjoyed the process. Glue coverage was even, no dry patches anywhere. The kit came complete, nothing extra needed from the craft store. Surprisingly calming, even for someone with a short attention span. The multi-placer tip took some practice. It looks stunning in natural light. Still a good kit overall.

Bought this for the living room wall and it was worth the time. The canvas feels substantial, not thin or flimsy. It’s framed and hanging in our the breakfast nook now. The printed chart could have been a touch larger. Happy enough that I’d buy another.

I’m a repeat DOTZSO customer at this point and this kit did not disappoint. Plenty of margin around the edges for framing or trimming. I had to press the canvas under books overnight before starting. Framed in a simple black frame and it looks like real art. Overall a good experience.

A friend wouldn’t stop talking about hers, so I finally ordered one. It brightens the whole hallway. It would help to include a larger paper chart. Mild quibbles, but a good purchase.

Ordered this after seeing it on a friend’s shelf. The symbol chart is legible across the entire sheet. The canvas arrived folded rather than rolled, took a while to flatten. Keeps my hands busy during long flights and hotel evenings. Happy with it, with one small caveat.
