What’s in the Box

  • 1 × colour-printed canvas
  • DOTZSO signature resin drills, sorted by colour (with extra drills included)
  • Diamond painting tray
  • Comfort-grip applicator pen
  • Wax caddy
  • Pictorial step-by-step instructions

How to Make It

  1. Unroll the canvas on a flat surface and let it settle under something weighted if it has been rolled tight.
  2. Find the legend strip and match the first symbol to its drill colour.
  3. Press the pen tip into the wax caddy, then touch it to a drill – the drill lifts and stays on the tip.
  4. Set the drill onto the matching printed symbol and press lightly. Work one colour block at a time rather than jumping around the canvas.
  5. Continue until the design is complete, then press the finished surface flat with a book for an hour to seat every drill.
  6. Seat the canvas in its frame, or store it flat, once the surface has been pressed.

Complete it in your own time, then frame it — a finished DOTZSO canvas is meant to be hung, not stored.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the Butterfly diamond painting kit sold as a complete kit rather than in pieces?

Yes. The Butterfly diamond painting kit ships complete with everything shown in the product images, so there is nothing else to source, plus the DOTZSO resin drills, tray, applicator pen, wax caddy and pictorial instructions. Nothing else needs sourcing. Reference Q2385.

Is the Butterfly design robust once the sealing step is done?

Once the drills are seated and the surface is sealed, the Butterfly design holds under normal use. The sealed surface handles normal handling, and the sealing step is the single biggest factor in how long the finish lasts. Sealing is the step that decides the Butterfly finish’s lifespan.

What products are safe on the Butterfly finish?

Wipe with a damp cloth and dry immediately. Do not submerge it or put it through a dishwasher — the adhesive layer under the drills is not built for a soak. For the Butterfly palette, iridescent blues and violets shifting toward warm orange at the wing edges tones show dust less than pale grounds, so a light pass is usually enough. Nothing abrasive should touch the Butterfly surface.

Is the Butterfly design worked edge to edge?

The round resin drills are colour-sorted and matched to the printed symbol key. The Butterfly artwork is drawn so that a butterfly with wings held open reads clearly at any distance. The Butterfly pattern is worked uniformly, with no gaps left.

How does the Butterfly design fit around a busy week?

Plan for two to four evenings, depending on the size of the canvas. The Butterfly design is delicate and alive, which tends to make it easier to work in short sessions. The Butterfly design is paced, not rushed.

Is the Butterfly project forgiving of mistakes?

Yes. The symbol key is printed directly on the canvas and the pictorial instructions walk through the whole process, so no prior diamond painting experience is needed. The Butterfly layout is delicate and alive, which helps on a first attempt. All components arrive together.

The printed canvas is crisp and the symbols are easy to read. The drills cover edge to edge with no bald spots. The repetitive motion is oddly satisfying, one of those simple pleasures. Took a bit longer to arrive than I expected. Would order again despite the small issues.

I hung it in the hallway and people always ask where I got it. The canvas laid flat after a day under a couple of books. The canvas had a slight crease from shipping, though it flattened out. I do it at the kitchen table while dinner simmers. Would order again despite the small issues.

  3. Gayle Braun (verified owner) –

Ordered this to work on through the winter evenings. The print quality is sharp and the detail comes through. It’s a nice conversation piece when people visit. The glue was slightly tacky in one corner. Would recommend it with those notes.

My sister got me into these and this is my latest one. The butterfly element makes it feel personal. Good weight to the materials, it doesn’t feel cheap. The pace of it suits me — no pressure, no deadline. It was worth every evening I put into it. Took a bit longer to arrive than I expected. Worth it, just go in with the right expectations.

Bought this because the design has real depth to it. The canvas is a good weight with a detailed print underneath. The wax was a little stiff at first. The finished piece has real presence. Worth it, just go in with the right expectations.

I framed it once finished and it looks like real artwork. It’s a charming butterfly piece and everyone comments on it. The canvas had a slight crease from shipping, though it flattened out. The canvas didn’t dry out over the weeks I worked on it. Really relaxing to do in the evening instead of scrolling. Worth buying, just plan for those small quirks.

Wasn’t sure what to expect, but I’m very happy with it. It turned into something I actually want to display, not shove in a drawer. The glue picked up a bit of dust over the weeks I worked on it. Good kit overall, just a couple of small things.

Bought this because the design has real depth to it. The canvas is a good weight and the print underneath is detailed. The packaging was a little plain for a gift. I finished it over a couple of weekends. It’s the centerpiece of that wall. Would recommend it with those notes.

  9. Fernando Cavanaugh (verified owner) –

The finished size makes a real statement on the wall. Looks beautiful in our living room, the colors tie everything together. There were slightly more drills than needed, so it took longer than planned. Happy enough that I’d buy another.

  10. Sarah Webster (verified owner) –

Bought it as a starter kit for myself and it worked out great. Everything felt well made, from the tools to the drills. Only small gripe is that a few drills had little burrs on them. The winged artwork looks great up on the wall. It’s hanging on the wall and looks fantastic. Overall happy, just a few small things.

This is my third order from DOTZSO and it did not disappoint. Symbols are printed clearly even in the busy areas of the butterfly section. The packaging arrived a little dented. Really soothing to focus on one small area at a time. Mild quibbles, but a good purchase.

I framed it once finished and it looks like real artwork. Looks lovely framed and hung up. Would have liked the drills pre-sorted by color. Still a solid purchase.

  13. Marilyn Mcgee (verified owner) –

Bought this for the living room wall and it was worth the time. Full drill coverage means no blank canvas showing. The canvas laid flat after a day under a couple of books. Nice to have a hobby that leaves you calmer than you started. A couple of the darker shades were hard to tell apart in low light. Once it was framed it really pulled the room together. Happy with it, with a few caveats.

  14. Randall Coleman (verified owner) –

I’ve had my eye on this design since last season. It came rolled and flattened out with no creases. Everything I needed was in the box – pen, wax, tray and tweezers. The adhesive attracted a little dust over the weeks. I do a section after work with a cup of tea and it’s a nice way to unwind. It looks like real art in a simple frame. Good enough that I’d buy another.

This kept me busy through the whole winter. The legend printed on the canvas is handy to have. I do a section a night with a podcast on. The symbols are quite small in the detailed areas. Overall a good experience.

The finished size makes a real statement on the wall. It looks like a gallery piece now that it’s framed. The butterfly motif makes it feel special. Took longer than the estimated time, but that’s on me. Happy with it, with a few caveats.

  17. Eugene Moss (verified owner) –

This was my first full size canvas and it turned out better than I hoped. Color count is higher than my earlier kits, which shows in the finished piece. Very pleased with how it came together. The adhesive picked up a bit of dust while I was working over several days. Overall a good experience.

Added this to my cart at the last minute and I’m glad I did. Really proud to have this hanging in the house. Some colors had very few spare drills. Would still recommend it.

This one took some patience but the result is stunning. Once it was framed it really pulled the room together. The sorting tray is shallow, drills spill out if you’re not careful. I went with the winged version and the colors are lovely. Minor quibbles aside, I’d buy it again.

Such a nice little project to have on the go. The glue is tacky enough to reposition a misplaced drill. It took longer than the estimate, though that’s on me. Made this as a gift for my parents’ anniversary. I’d order again, just knowing what to expect.

I’ve had my eye on this design since last season. Once it was framed it really pulled the room together. The wax ran out before I finished and I had to use my own. The butterfly detail is impressive up close. Still a solid purchase.

This kept me busy for a solid month in the best way. Nice large format, the finished piece makes a real statement. I had to press the canvas under books overnight before starting. Looks lovely framed and hung up. Worth it despite the small things.

This kept me busy through the whole winter. Color count is higher than my earlier kits, which shows in the finished piece. This is the kind of craft that’s genuinely calming after a hectic day. I had to press the canvas under books overnight before starting. Great value for what you get. I’d recommend it with that one note.
