About This Cat Design

The Cat artwork on this canvas frames a cat settled in profile with tail wrapped forward, fur rendered in overlapping short strokes across the flank and chest, worked in warm greys and soft browns with bright eye highlights against a tonal background. The overall character is calm and companionable rather than theatrical. Cat portraits sell because the owner already has a relationship with the subject — the canvas just holds it. It is aimed at makers who want a canvas detailed enough to frame rather than store. Designed for bedrooms and home offices, it holds up as decor rather than as something you finish and put in a drawer. Reference Q4829. cat portraits sell because the owner already has a relationship with the subject — the canvas just holds it. In practice that means the finished piece sits comfortably in bedrooms and home offices, where the calm character of the palette does the decorating for you.

A DOTZSO kit is put together so the process stays unhurried and the finished canvas is worth framing. Along with the canvas come DOTZSO resin drills, a sorting tray, a comfort-grip applicator pen, a wax caddy and pictorial steps.

A good canvas print is half the finished result. This one is produced so the symbols stay legible through a long project rather than fading at the edges.

Supplied as 1 separate canvases, so the set can be worked one design at a time.

What’s in the Box

  • 1 × colour-printed canvas
  • DOTZSO signature resin drills, sorted by colour (with extra drills included)
  • Diamond painting tray
  • Comfort-grip applicator pen
  • Wax caddy
  • Pictorial step-by-step instructions

How to Make It

  1. Unroll the canvas on a flat surface and let it settle under something weighted if it has been rolled tight.
  2. Find the legend strip and match the first symbol to its drill colour.
  3. Press the pen tip into the wax caddy, then touch it to a drill – the drill lifts and stays on the tip.
  4. Set the drill onto the matching printed symbol and press lightly. Work one colour block at a time rather than jumping around the canvas.
  5. Continue until the design is complete, then press the finished surface flat with a book for an hour to seat every drill.
  6. Seat the canvas in its frame, or store it flat, once the surface has been pressed.

Work through it colour by colour, then frame the canvas and hang it where it gets seen.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the Cat design come as a ready-to-work diamond painting kit?

Yes. The Cat diamond painting kit ships complete with everything shown in the product images, so there is nothing else to source, plus the DOTZSO resin drills, tray, applicator pen, wax caddy and pictorial instructions. Nothing else needs sourcing. Reference Q4829.

How long will the Cat finish last with normal use?

Once the drills are seated and the surface is sealed, the Cat design holds under normal use. The sealed surface handles normal handling, and the sealing step is the single biggest factor in how long the finish lasts. Regular use does not compromise the Cat surface.

What is the right way to care for the Cat diamond painting kit?

Wipe with a damp cloth and dry immediately. Do not submerge it or put it through a dishwasher — the adhesive layer under the drills is not built for a soak. For the Cat palette, warm greys and soft browns tones show dust less than pale grounds, so a light pass is usually enough. The Cat palette holds up better kept out of strong sun.

Is the Cat surface fully worked?

The round resin drills are colour-sorted and matched to the printed symbol key. The Cat artwork is drawn so that a cat settled in profile with tail wrapped forward reads clearly at any distance. The Cat pattern is worked uniformly, with no gaps left.

What is the pace of the Cat project?

Plan for two to four evenings, depending on the size of the canvas. The Cat design is calm and companionable, which tends to make it easier to work in short sessions. Work it a colour at a time and the Cat piece moves quickly.

Is the Cat diamond painting kit approachable for beginners?

Yes. The symbol key is printed directly on the canvas and the pictorial instructions walk through the whole process, so no prior diamond painting experience is needed. The Cat layout is calm and companionable, which helps on a first attempt. The set is complete as shipped.

Took it slow, a section at a time, and really enjoyed the process. The kitty artwork looks great up on the wall. The canvas came rolled, and it flattened out with no creases. I wish the printed legend was a little bigger. Packaging was tidy and nothing had spilled in transit. I set it up next to the window and do a few rows whenever the light is good. It’s the nicest thing I’ve made so far. Worth buying, just plan for those small quirks.

A friend wouldn’t stop talking about hers, so I finally ordered one. I’m really proud of how it turned out. The canvas had a slight crease from shipping, though it flattened out. The artwork looks even better in person than the photos. Happy with it, with one small caveat.

  3. Sonya Shah (verified owner) –

Ordered this after finishing a smaller canvas and wanting more detail. It reads as a proper piece of art. It arrived folded rather than rolled and took time to flatten. Still worth it overall.

  4. Alyssa B. (verified owner) –

Ordered it after seeing one a friend finished, and I get the appeal now. I picked the cat version and the colors are lovely. The canvas is a good weight and the print underneath is detailed. It’s become my evening ritual – an hour of this and I feel settled. The canvas arrived folded rather than rolled, took a while to flatten. I’d recommend it with that one note.

I framed it once finished and it looks like real artwork. Full drill coverage means no blank canvas showing. The glue picked up a bit of dust over the weeks I worked on it. I worked on this during my lunch breaks and it made the days feel better. Overall a good experience.

  6. Cole Donnelly (verified owner) –

Bought this for the living room wall and it was worth the time. There was plenty of margin around the edge for a clean finish. I had to press the canvas under books overnight before starting. It looks far more detailed than the kit suggested. Would buy again; the notes are minor.

Ordered this for a quiet weekend and it delivered. The end result made all the evenings worth it. The included pen wore out partway through. Still a solid purchase.

  8. Gretchen Garner (verified owner) –

Took me about a month of evenings and I’d do it again. The chart on the side of the canvas is clear and easy to follow. Something about placing the drills is very settling. It’s the nicest thing I’ve made so far. The canvas was creased on arrival and needed time to flatten. Overall a good experience.

  9. Sherry J. (verified owner) –

The detail on this canvas is really nice up close. The canvas laid flat after a day under a couple of books. I love how the kitty colors turned out. Nice mindful project – you can’t think about much else while you’re placing drills. This one is going straight on the wall. A few bags weren’t labeled as clearly as the rest. Good kit overall, just a couple of small things.

  10. Alexis Lord (verified owner) –

My sister got me into these and this is my latest one. The canvas doesn’t curl at the corners after working on it. The drills have a nice sparkle to them, not dull or flat. There were slightly more drills than needed, so it took longer than planned. Surprisingly calming, even for someone with a short attention span. It was worth every evening I put into it. Would order again despite the small issues.

This was my first full size canvas and it turned out better than I hoped. Nice large format, the finished piece makes a real statement. Would have liked the drills pre-sorted by color. It’s the nicest thing I’ve made so far. Happy enough that I’d buy another.

This was a bigger project and I loved every evening of it. The large format makes a real statement when finished. It looks great from a distance and holds up close. I wish the printed legend was a little bigger. Happy enough that I’d buy another.

The detail on this canvas is what sold me. The large format makes a real statement when finished. I wish the printed legend was a little bigger. It’s a lovely cat piece for the wall. I work on it while listening to an audiobook and the time just disappears. I’d order again, just knowing what to expect.

  14. Brooke M. (verified owner) –

I hung it in the hallway and people always ask where I got it. Packaging was tidy and nothing had spilled in transit. The canvas came rolled, and it flattened out with no creases. I did this with my sister-in-law on the weekends and we both got into it. Once framed it looks like something you’d buy in a gallery. The symbols are quite small in the detailed areas. I’d recommend it with that one note.

Came across this while looking for craft ideas and bought it that day. The symbol chart is legible across the entire sheet. Colors matched the numbers exactly, so there was no guessing. I did a little at a time and it never felt like a slog. The tray included is on the small side. It’s framed and hanging in our the entryway now. Small issues, but nothing that would stop me ordering again.

  16. Caleb Hart –

Ordered this after finishing a smaller canvas and wanting more detail. The canvas came rolled, and it flattened out with no creases. Colors are distinct enough that I never mixed two shades up. I keep it by my chair and pick it up whenever I have a few minutes. It photographs well, which is a bonus for sharing. It took longer than the estimate, though that’s on me. Would order again despite the small issues.

I’ve done smaller kits and this felt like a proper project. The kitty motif makes it feel special. The canvas arrived rolled tightly and needed a night to flatten. Symbols are readable even in the busiest sections. It’s a lovely quiet hobby, and I like having something to show for it at the end. Worth buying, just plan for those small quirks.

Came quickly and was packaged really well. The glue is tacky enough to reposition a misplaced drill. Great way to slow down at the end of a busy day. The multi-placer tip took some practice. It’s hanging in the sunroom now and looks great. Happy with it, with a few caveats.

Such a nice little project to have on the go. The canvas came rolled, and it flattened out with no creases. Something about placing the drills is very settling. The included pen wore out partway through. Really proud to have this hanging in the house. If this style appeals to you, it delivers. Still a good kit overall.

Took me a few weeks of evenings and I loved every minute. Looks beautiful in our living room, the colors tie everything together. The kitty motif makes it feel special. I had to press the canvas under books overnight before starting. Minor things, but I’d still buy it again.

Ordered it after seeing one a friend finished, and I get the appeal now. Full drill coverage means no blank canvas showing. I’ve already had several people ask where it came from. The glue was slightly tacky in one corner. I’d order it again knowing what I know now.

This was my first full size canvas and it turned out better than I hoped. Print quality is sharp, the cat detail really comes through. Made this as a gift for my parents’ anniversary. Took a bit longer to arrive than I expected. Still a solid purchase.

I’m not usually a craft person, but this one converted me. Really proud to have this hanging in the house. The adhesive picked up lint over the days I worked on it. I’d order again, just knowing what to expect.

I wanted something substantial enough to last a few weeks. It fills the wall above the sofa beautifully. The packaging was a little plain for a gift. Minor quibbles aside, I’d buy it again.
