Why This Mountain Tray Earns Its Place on the Table

Set down as a Mountain design, a range of peaks receding into distance, snow held on the upper faces and a treeline anchoring the base meets slate blue and cool grey with snow white highlights against a pale sky here, and the outcome is wide and still rather than merely decorative. Mountain scenes are the most durable landscape motif — they never date and they suit almost any wall. It fits anyone who wants a tray that doubles as decoration without being decorative-only. Designed for living rooms and workspaces, it holds up as decor rather than as something you finish and put in a drawer. Reference CP23-2. mountain scenes are the most durable landscape motif — they never date and they suit almost any wall Everything downstream of that follows the same logic.

mountain scenes are the most durable landscape motif — they never date and they suit almost any wall. That is the reason it reads as furniture in living rooms and workspaces rather than as decoration.

A DOTZSO tray kit is designed so the process is calm and the result has a job on the table. The package contains the printed wooden tray, DOTZSO resin drills, a tray, a comfort-grip applicator pen, a wax caddy and a full pictorial guide.

A tray stays out on the counter if it can take a hot mug. That is what the sealed surface and solid body are for.

Edge-to-edge coverage is what makes the tray read as a finished piece of homeware.

What’s in the Box

  • 1 × printed wooden tray with cut-in handles
  • DOTZSO signature resin drills, sorted by colour (with extra drills included)
  • Diamond painting tray
  • Comfort-grip applicator pen
  • Wax caddy
  • Pictorial step-by-step instructions

How to Make It

  1. Lay the printed tray face flat and let it settle before starting.
  2. Find the legend strip and match the first symbol to its drill colour.
  3. Press the pen tip into the wax caddy, then touch it to a drill – the drill lifts and stays on the tip.
  4. Set the drill onto the matching printed symbol and press lightly. Work one colour block at a time rather than across the whole tray.
  5. Continue until the face is covered, then press the finished surface flat with a book for an hour to seat every drill.
  6. Seal the surface fully before the tray goes into service, or the drills will lift under a plate.

Work at whatever speed you like, then move the finished tray straight into service.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the Mountain wooden tray kit supplied as a complete package?

Yes. The Mountain wooden tray kit ships complete with the wooden tray and cut-in handles; you drill the printed face and then the tray goes into service, plus the DOTZSO resin drills, tray, applicator pen, wax caddy and pictorial instructions. Nothing else needs sourcing. Reference CP23-2.

How well does the Mountain design survive handling?

Once the drills are seated and the surface is sealed, the Mountain design holds under normal use. The surface is sealed, so it handles mugs and plates in normal use. Very hot pans straight from the hob are another matter — use a trivet, and the sealing step is the single biggest factor in how long the finish lasts. The Mountain piece is robust once the final pass is complete.

Can the Mountain wooden tray kit be wiped over without harm?

Wipe with a damp cloth and dry immediately. Do not submerge it or put it through a dishwasher — the adhesive layer under the drills is not built for a soak. For the Mountain palette, slate blue and cool grey tones show dust less than pale grounds, so a light pass is usually enough. A soft dry brush is the safest tool for the Mountain texture.

Is the Mountain design a full-coverage project?

The face is drilled across the whole surface, so the finished tray has complete coverage without bare wood showing. The Mountain artwork is drawn so that a range of peaks receding into distance reads clearly at any distance. Coverage on the Mountain piece is consistent edge to edge.

Is the Mountain design a long-running project?

Plan for a few sessions rather than one. Working a single colour block at a time is faster than moving across the tray at random. The Mountain design is wide and still, which tends to make it easier to work in short sessions. The Mountain design suits working one colour block at a time.

Which Mountain size would suit a gift?

The range covers 7.8 × 11.8 in, 9.8 × 13.8 in and 12.2 × 16.1 in, so there is a format for a bedside table or a full dinner service. This listing is the 12.2×16.1 in format. Reference CP23-2.

  1. CraftRoomChaos –

Bought it as a housewarming gift and it was a hit. Packaging was tidy and nothing had spilled in transit. Some colors came with barely any extras, though I didn’t run out. This is the kind of craft that’s genuinely calming after a hectic day. It sits on the entry table and catches keys and mail. Worth buying, just plan for those small quirks.

Heavier and nicer in person than it looked online. Drill colors are well separated, no squinting to tell two shades apart. I work on it while listening to an audiobook and the time just disappears. Not something I’d put in the dishwasher or soak, obviously. Minor things, but I’d still buy it again.

  3. Barry Hopper (verified owner) –

Ordered two so my sister and I could work on them side by side. Size is right for two mugs and a small plate. Really soothing to focus on one small area at a time. The result looks handmade in the best way. The canvas had a faint mark from the printing on one edge. Happy with it, with one small caveat.

I ordered this for my dresser and it’s become a centerpiece. It’s become the anchor of the nightstand. The wood arrived with one small scuff on the side. Overall happy, just a few small things.

This was a fun change of pace from the usual canvas kits. The drills came in labeled bags, which made sorting painless. A couple of the darker shades were hard to tell apart in low light. Really happy with the end result. Happy enough that I’d buy another.

  6. Johnathan Carter (verified owner) –

This was a step up from the smaller kits and I enjoyed it. The rim is deep enough to actually hold things. It’s practical and it looks good doing the job. One bag of drills had come open in transit. The landscape detail is impressive up close. I’d order again, just knowing what to expect.

Picked this up for our coffee table and it ties the room together. Handles are sturdy, I can carry a full mug without worrying. I did a section a night and looked forward to it each time. This is a lovely scenery piece for the price. Not something I’d put in the dishwasher or soak, obviously. Mild quibbles, but a good purchase.

This was a practical project and it turned out prettier than expected. The landscape artwork comes together beautifully as you work. One small scuff on the wood when it arrived. Extra drills were included for every color, which I appreciated. It turned out better than I pictured. Still worth it overall.

This was my first tray kit and I’d do another. Made one for my mother-in-law and she was delighted. A few bags weren’t labeled as clearly as the rest. I’d order again, just knowing what to expect.

Second time ordering this style, still happy with it. The drilled panel is recessed so it’s protected from spills. I worked on this during my lunch breaks and it made the days feel better. The pen that came with it is a bit flimsy, I swapped in my own. Overall a good experience.

I bought this to organize my nightstand and it looks lovely. The drills came in labeled bags, which made sorting painless. It’s on our ottoman and gets used for coffee every morning. The handles are a bit narrow for larger hands. Would order again despite the small issues.

I picked this up on a whim and ended up really enjoying it. The wood base has a nice weight to it, feels like real serveware. It’s the kind of project that feels creative without being stressful. You’ll want to seal it yourself if you’re putting wet glasses on it. Still a solid purchase.

  13. Sonia Landry (verified owner) –

I saw this on the shop page and couldn’t talk myself out of it. The drills arrived clean, not stuck together in clumps. The finish is even across the whole piece. I put on an audiobook and worked through it in a few sittings. The printed chart could have been a touch larger. Really nice piece to have out when people come over. Would buy again; the notes are minor.

I use mine every morning for coffee. Glue coverage was even, no dry patches anywhere. The packaging was a little crushed on one corner. The landscape pattern is what made me choose this one. I keep it by my chair and pick it up whenever I have a few minutes. Overall happy, just a few small things.

Bought it for the guest room and it looks lovely there. I’ve had three people ask me where I bought it. One small scuff on the wood when it arrived. Happy enough that I’d buy another.

I’m not usually a craft person, but this one converted me. Nice finish on the wood, not rough or unfinished. It’s my go-to when I want something enjoyable that doesn’t take much thought. The scenery pattern is what made me choose this one. I keep remotes and coasters on mine when it’s not in use. I wish it came pre-sealed. Worth buying, just plan for those small quirks.

Made this for our coffee table and get compliments on it constantly. The drills clicked into place without needing much pressure. Everything I needed was in the box – pen, wax, tray and tweezers. Handles are a bit narrow for larger hands. It’s a slow, quiet hobby and I like that about it. Worth the time it took. Would still recommend it.

Really nice kit, especially for the money. The tray has real weight to it, feels like serveware. I did most of it over a lazy weekend and enjoyed every minute. I keep remotes and candles on it when it’s not in use. Not something I’d put in the dishwasher or soak, obviously. Overall a good experience.

Made one for my sister and now she wants the kit too. Solid wood, much better than the pressed board versions. I keep it by my chair and pick it up whenever I have a few minutes. A couple of the darker shades were hard to tell apart. My friends all want one now. Still a good kit overall.

Added this to my cart at the last minute and I’m glad I did. No missing colors and no shortage on the ones used most. I keep remotes and coasters on mine when it’s not in use. Wish it came with a protective finish already applied. Overall a good experience.

Grabbed this on a whim after a long week. The drills clicked into place without needing much pressure. Instructions were pretty minimal, though there are plenty of tutorials online. It’s my screen-free hour in the evening. Worth the time it took. Still worth it overall.

I’m a repeat DOTZSO customer at this point and this kit did not disappoint. The base is flat and doesn’t rock on the table. Really relaxing to do in the evening instead of scrolling. Took me a while to get the hang of the multi-placer tip. Looks beautiful on the coffee table with a candle on it. Worth buying, just plan for those small quirks.

I ordered this for my dresser and it’s become a centerpiece. The tray doesn’t flex or bow when I pick it up. Not something to soak or put in the dishwasher. Keeps my hands busy during long flights and hotel evenings. I use it for serving when we have people over. Minor gripes aside, I’d buy it again.

The kit came complete, nothing extra needed from the craft store. The packaging arrived a little dented. I set it up next to the window and do a few rows whenever the light is good.
