Why This Camping Tray Earns Its Place on the Table

The Camping composition starts from a tent pitched beside a small fire, pine trees behind and a wide sky above, with gear resting at the entrance and settles on forest green and canvas tan with warm firelight against a deep blue dusk. What you get is a outdoorsy and quiet piece with no wasted detail. Camping scenes sell to people who want the outdoors on the wall rather than in a photograph. It fits anyone who wants a tray that doubles as decoration without being decorative-only. Designed for cabins, dens and adventure-themed rooms, it holds up as decor rather than as something you finish and put in a drawer. Reference CP25. Camping scenes sell to people who want the outdoors on the wall rather than in a photograph.

camping scenes sell to people who want the outdoors on the wall rather than in a photograph. In practice that means the finished piece sits comfortably in cabins, dens and adventure-themed rooms, where the outdoorsy character of the palette does the decorating for you.

A DOTZSO tray kit is designed so the process is calm and the result has a job on the table. The package contains the printed wooden tray, DOTZSO resin drills, a tray, a comfort-grip applicator pen, a wax caddy and a full pictorial guide.

A tray stays out on the counter if it can take a hot mug. That is what the sealed surface and solid body are for.

Edge-to-edge coverage is what makes the tray read as a finished piece of homeware.

What’s in the Box

  • 1 × printed wooden tray with cut-in handles
  • DOTZSO signature resin drills, sorted by colour (with extra drills included)
  • Diamond painting tray
  • Comfort-grip applicator pen
  • Wax caddy
  • Pictorial step-by-step instructions

How to Make It

  1. Lay the printed tray face flat and let it settle before starting.
  2. Find the legend strip and match the first symbol to its drill colour.
  3. Press the pen tip into the wax caddy, then touch it to a drill – the drill lifts and stays on the tip.
  4. Set the drill onto the matching printed symbol and press lightly. Work one colour block at a time rather than across the whole tray.
  5. Continue until the face is covered, then press the finished surface flat with a book for an hour to seat every drill.
  6. Seal the surface fully before the tray goes into service, or the drills will lift under a plate.

Work at whatever speed you like, then move the finished tray straight into service.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the Camping wooden tray kit one purchase, or several?

Yes. The Camping wooden tray kit ships complete with the wooden tray and cut-in handles; you drill the printed face and then the tray goes into service, plus the DOTZSO resin drills, tray, applicator pen, wax caddy and pictorial instructions. Nothing else needs sourcing. Reference CP25.

How solid is the finish on the Camping wooden tray kit?

Once the drills are seated and the surface is sealed, the Camping design holds under normal use. The surface is sealed, so it handles mugs and plates in normal use. Very hot pans straight from the hob are another matter — use a trivet, and the sealing step is the single biggest factor in how long the finish lasts. The sealing step at the end is what locks it in.

How do I keep the Camping surface dust free?

Wipe with a damp cloth and dry immediately. Do not submerge it or put it through a dishwasher — the adhesive layer under the drills is not built for a soak. For the Camping palette, forest green and canvas tan tones show dust less than pale grounds, so a light pass is usually enough. Keeping the Camping piece dust-free is the whole routine.

Is there any bare surface on the Camping wooden tray kit?

The face is drilled across the whole surface, so the finished tray has complete coverage without bare wood showing. The Camping artwork is drawn so that a tent pitched beside a small fire reads clearly at any distance. Coverage on the Camping piece does not vary across the design.

How does the Camping project break down time-wise?

Plan for a few sessions rather than one. Working a single colour block at a time is faster than moving across the tray at random. The Camping design is outdoorsy and quiet, which tends to make it easier to work in short sessions. It works well as an ongoing project.

What is the widest Camping option?

The range covers 7.8 × 11.8 in, 9.8 × 13.8 in and 12.2 × 16.1 in, so there is a format for a bedside table or a full dinner service. This listing is the 7.8×11.8 in format. Reference CP25.

Made this for our coffee table and get compliments on it constantly. Gave it as a housewarming gift and it was the favorite present. You’ll want to seal it yourself if you’re putting wet glasses on it. Worth buying, just plan for those small quirks.

I picked this up on a whim and ended up really enjoying it. No missing colors and no shortage on the ones used most. I brought it on a week at the lake and finished most of it there. Only small gripe is that a few drills had little burrs on them. I’d recommend it with that one note.

  3. Olivia C. (verified owner) –

Came quickly and was packaged really well. The wood base has a nice weight to it, feels like real serveware. Did most of it over a long weekend and it was such a pleasant way to pass the time. There were slightly more drills than needed, so it took longer than planned. Would order again despite the small issues.

  4. Tommy Kirkland (verified owner) –

Picked this up for our coffee table and it ties the room together. The kit came with a comfortable pen and enough wax for the whole project. I keep remotes and candles on it when it’s not in use. The handles are a bit narrow for larger hands. Would still recommend it.

This one caught my eye and I’m glad it did. It photographs well, which is a bonus for sharing. Some colors had very few spare drills. Happy with it, with one small caveat.

Bought it for a rainy weekend and it was exactly what I needed. Great gift for anyone who likes hosting. A few bags weren’t labeled as clearly as the rest. Would order again despite the small issues.

Picked this up for our coffee table and it ties the room together. The wood is thick and sanded smooth, no splinters. It’s on the bathroom counter and looks intentional. The drilled panel sits slightly proud of the rim. Happy with it, with one small caveat.

This was a fun change of pace from the usual canvas kits. The wood base has a nice weight to it, feels like real serveware. The repetitive motion is oddly satisfying, one of those simple pleasures. The adhesive picked up a bit of dust while I was working over several days. Minor things, but I’d still buy it again.

  9. Carolyn Townsend (verified owner) –

Bought this to do with my daughter on rainy days. The end result made all the evenings worth it. Not something I’d put in the dishwasher or soak, obviously. Good kit overall, just a couple of small things.

  10. Tami Wise –

The wood base is much sturdier than I expected. Plenty of margin around the edges for framing or trimming. Drill colors are well separated, no squinting to tell two shades apart. It’s the kind of hobby that makes an evening feel well spent. It’s on the coffee table and gets used every morning. I wish it came pre-sealed. I’d recommend it with that one note.

  11. Marc Gilbert (verified owner) –

Been doing these for about two years and this kit is solid. The handles make it genuinely easy to carry. It’s a good way to slow down at the end of the day. A few drills had rough edges that needed picking off. A solid purchase with a couple of notes.

  12. Emanuel Taylor (verified owner) –

Bought it as a housewarming gift and it was a hit. No missing colors and nothing short in the high-use shades. The packaging arrived a little dented. It’s become a fixture in the living room. Overall happy, just a few small things.

  13. Ralph Andrade (verified owner) –

I’ve wanted a tray like this for a while. The drills are bright and consistent in size, no weird off-color batches. I kept it by the window and worked on it in the afternoons. The canvas had a faint mark from the printing on one edge. I gave one to my sister and she immediately ordered her own. I’d recommend it with that one note.

  14. Gabriel Kaufman –

Made this for our coffee table and get compliments on it constantly. The base is flat and doesn’t rock on the table. I do this instead of scrolling and feel much better for it. Wish it came with a protective finish already applied. Overall a good experience.

  15. Monica Johnston (verified owner) –

Bought this after finishing my last kit and it was a good call. The tray has real weight to it, feels like serveware. Instructions were pretty minimal, though there are plenty of tutorials online. It’s become the quiet part of my day that I look forward to. My daughter wants one now after seeing mine. Good kit overall, just a couple of small things.

I’m a repeat DOTZSO customer at this point and this kit did not disappoint. The wood is thick and finished smoothly, no splinters anywhere. It’s become my evening ritual – an hour of this and I feel settled. The wood arrived with one small scuff on the side. I’d recommend it with that one note.

The wood base makes this feel like real decor. The wood is thick and finished smoothly, no splinters anywhere. Glue coverage was even, no dry patches anywhere. Great for unwinding after a busy week. Holds two mugs and a plate easily. The drilled panel sits slightly proud of the rim. Still worth it overall.

The handles make it feel like real serveware, not just a craft. The surface is flat and level, glasses don’t wobble. One small scuff on the wood when it arrived. Nice mindful work that keeps you present. Would still recommend it.

I’ve wanted a tray like this for a while. The wood finish is smooth and looks properly done. The drilled panel sits slightly proud of the rim. It’s become my evening ritual – an hour of this and I feel settled. I’ve had three people ask me where I bought it. Small issues, but nothing that would stop me ordering again.

The handles make it feel like real serveware, not just a craft. The canvas print is sharp and the symbols are legible. I wish the printed legend was a little bigger. I worked through this over a few weeks of evenings and loved it. It holds two mugs and a plate with room to spare. Overall happy, just a few small things.

  21. Cathy Vargas (verified owner) –

Picked this up to try something different and really enjoyed it. Looks beautiful on the coffee table with a candle on it. Some colors came with barely any extras, though I didn’t run out. Worth it despite the small things.

  22. Melody Atkinson (verified owner) –

Made this as a wedding gift and it was a big hit. Nice finish on the wood, not rough or unfinished. I do a section after work with a cup of tea and it’s a nice way to unwind. My mother-in-law displays hers proudly. Only small gripe is that a few drills had little burrs on them. Small issues, but nothing that would stop me ordering again.

I bought this to fill the gap between bigger projects. The wood finish is smooth and looks properly done. The finish is even across the whole piece. It’s become my evening ritual – an hour of this and I feel settled. The pen was fine, though I ended up using my own. I keep remotes and coasters on mine when it’s not in use. Small things aside, it’s a good buy.

Picked this up as a small reward after a long quarter at work. Handles make it easy to carry from the kitchen to the couch. I spread it over a week and enjoyed every session. The packaging was a little plain for a gift. Would make a really nice gift, and it arrives boxed nicely. Would recommend it with those notes.
