What’s in the Box

  • 1 × printed wooden tray with cut-in handles
  • DOTZSO signature resin drills, sorted by colour (with extra drills included)
  • Diamond painting tray
  • Comfort-grip applicator pen
  • Wax caddy
  • Pictorial step-by-step instructions

How to Make It

  1. Lay the printed tray face flat and let it settle before starting.
  2. Find the legend strip and match the first symbol to its drill colour.
  3. Press the pen tip into the wax caddy, then touch it to a drill – the drill lifts and stays on the tip.
  4. Set the drill onto the matching printed symbol and press lightly. Work one colour block at a time rather than across the whole tray.
  5. Continue until the face is covered, then press the finished surface flat with a book for an hour to seat every drill.
  6. Seal the surface fully before the tray goes into service, or the drills will lift under a plate.

Finish it in your own time, then put the tray out and start using it daily.

Frequently Asked Questions

What exactly ships with this wooden tray kit?

Yes. The Abstract wooden tray kit ships complete with the wooden tray and cut-in handles; you drill the printed face and then the tray goes into service, plus the DOTZSO resin drills, tray, applicator pen, wax caddy and pictorial instructions. Nothing else needs sourcing. Reference CP15-2.

Is the Abstract wooden tray kit durable enough to actually use?

Once the drills are seated and the surface is sealed, the Abstract design holds under normal use. The surface is sealed, so it handles mugs and plates in normal use. Very hot pans straight from the hob are another matter — use a trivet, and the sealing step is the single biggest factor in how long the finish lasts. Handling the Abstract piece normally will not disturb the drills.

How should the Abstract surface be handled during cleaning?

Wipe with a damp cloth and dry immediately. Do not submerge it or put it through a dishwasher — the adhesive layer under the drills is not built for a soak. For the Abstract palette, muted terracotta, dusty blue and soft graphite resolved against an off-white ground tones show dust less than pale grounds, so a light pass is usually enough. The Abstract colours stay true with basic care.

Is the Abstract design full drill or partial drill?

The face is drilled across the whole surface, so the finished tray has complete coverage without bare wood showing. The Abstract artwork is drawn so that overlapping colour fields drifting across the canvas reads clearly at any distance. There are no unworked sections on the Abstract piece.

What time should I set aside for the Abstract wooden tray kit?

Plan for a few sessions rather than one. Working a single colour block at a time is faster than moving across the tray at random. The Abstract design is modern and understated, which tends to make it easier to work in short sessions. Work it a colour at a time and the Abstract piece moves quickly.

Which Abstract size suits a bedside table?

The range covers 7.8 × 11.8 in, 9.8 × 13.8 in and 12.2 × 16.1 in, so there is a format for a bedside table or a full dinner service. This listing is the 9.8×13.8 in format. Reference CP15-2.

  1. Tiffany P. –

Bought it as a housewarming gift and it was a hit. The drills sit nice and flush, no gaps showing the surface underneath. Not something I’d put in the dishwasher or soak, obviously. I keep it set up on a side table and do a bit whenever I have ten minutes. The abstract subject is rendered with more detail than I expected. Would order again despite the small issues.

  2. Melvin Chase (verified owner) –

This tray is the perfect size for the kitchen island. No missing colors and nothing short in the high-use shades. The sorting tray is shallow, drills spill out if you’re not careful. It’s a lovely quiet hobby, and I like having something to show for it at the end. Small things aside, it’s a good buy.

  3. Charlie Hendrix (verified owner) –

This one took a bit more time and was worth it. Handles are sturdy, I can carry a full mug without worrying. The drilled panel sits slightly proud of the rim. It’s the kind of task that quiets a busy mind. It’s on the coffee table and gets used every morning. I’d order it again knowing what I know now.

  4. Tyler Burns (verified owner) –

Grabbed this on a whim after a long week. The drill design sits flush with the tray surface. It’s the sort of object that makes a room feel more finished. The tray included is on the small side. Still glad I ordered it overall.

  5. Vicki Sharp (verified owner) –

Finished it over a weekend and it looks great on the ottoman. The surface is flat and level, glasses don’t wobble. Plenty of margin around the edges for framing or trimming. I finished it faster than I expected because I kept coming back to it. I wish the instructions went into a bit more detail for a first-timer. It’s organized the whole surface with one addition. Happy with it, with a few caveats.

  6. NewEnglandNotions –

Bought it for the guest room and it looks lovely there. The surface is flat and level, glasses don’t wobble. Perfect for winding down before bed, much better than watching another show. The rim could be a touch deeper. The abstract element makes it feel personal. Looks beautiful on the coffee table with a candle on it. Solid overall, just a couple of nitpicks.

My husband picked this out for me and he chose well. The drills are set evenly across the whole surface. It’s the kind of thing guests notice right away. The box arrived a bit dented, though nothing inside was damaged. The abstract artwork comes together beautifully as you work. I’d order it again knowing what I know now.

The tray format is such a nice change of pace. The packaging kept everything organized and undamaged. I wish the printed legend was a little bigger. It’s satisfying to watch a section fill in. It’s on the coffee table and gets used every morning. Overall a good experience.

  9. Wyatt Sanders –

Picked this up before a long flight and it saved the trip. The drill panel sits flush with the tray surface. It’s my go-to when I need a quiet evening. The handles are a bit narrow for larger hands. I use it for serving when we have people over. Would still recommend it.

Made this for our coffee table and get compliments on it constantly. The wood base has a nice weight to it, feels like real serveware. It’s become my evening ritual – an hour of this and I feel settled. Really pleased with how it turned out. I wish it came pre-sealed. Small things aside, it’s a good buy.

Ordered this for a quiet weekend and it delivered. The wood is thick and finished smoothly, no splinters anywhere. The contemporary artwork comes together beautifully as you work. Wish it came with a protective finish already applied. Great value for what you get. Happy with it, with one small caveat.

This was exactly the kind of project I needed this month. This is a lovely contemporary piece for the price. The drilled panel sits slightly proud of the rim. The handles make it genuinely practical, not just decorative. Small things aside, it’s a good buy.

This one caught my eye and I’m glad it did. The wood base has a nice weight to it, feels like real serveware. It’s a calm, repetitive hobby and that’s exactly what I wanted. A couple of the darker shades were hard to tell apart. Overall happy, just a few small things.
