Why This Bohemian Tray Earns Its Place on the Table

What this Bohemian design does is place a layered boho composition of arches, fringed forms and repeated geometric motifs arranged in loose horizontal bands in terracotta, sand and deep rust with flashes of teal across a warm neutral ground and leave it there. The mood — earthy and relaxed — does the rest. Boho motifs suit rooms built on natural materials, where the earthy palette already does half the work. It is designed for daily service rather than occasional entertaining. Designed for living rooms with a warm, natural palette, it holds up as decor rather than as something you finish and put in a drawer. Reference CP12-2. boho motifs suit rooms built on natural materials, where the earthy palette already does half the work. That is the part that matters most here.

boho motifs suit rooms built on natural materials, where the earthy palette already does half the work. Which is what makes it easy to live with in living rooms with a warm, natural palette long after it is finished.

DOTZSO builds these tray kits for slow evenings, with a surface sealed for everyday handling. Inside the box you get a printed wooden tray with cut-in handles, DOTZSO resin drills, a sorting tray, a comfort-grip applicator pen, a wax caddy and pictorial instructions.

The detail most tray kits miss is the seal. It is what keeps the surface usable after the novelty has passed.

The pattern covers the entire base, so the tray looks the same whichever way it is set down.

What’s in the Box

  • 1 × printed wooden tray with cut-in handles
  • DOTZSO signature resin drills, sorted by colour (with extra drills included)
  • Diamond painting tray
  • Comfort-grip applicator pen
  • Wax caddy
  • Pictorial step-by-step instructions

How to Make It

  1. Lay the printed tray face flat and let it settle before starting.
  2. Find the legend strip and match the first symbol to its drill colour.
  3. Press the pen tip into the wax caddy, then touch it to a drill – the drill lifts and stays on the tip.
  4. Set the drill onto the matching printed symbol and press lightly. Work one colour block at a time rather than across the whole tray.
  5. Continue until the face is covered, then press the finished surface flat with a book for an hour to seat every drill.
  6. Seal the surface fully before the tray goes into service, or the drills will lift under a plate.

Work at whatever speed you like, then move the finished tray straight into service.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the Bohemian wooden tray kit a complete set for the money?

Yes. The Bohemian wooden tray kit ships complete with the wooden tray and cut-in handles; you drill the printed face and then the tray goes into service, plus the DOTZSO resin drills, tray, applicator pen, wax caddy and pictorial instructions. Nothing else needs sourcing. Reference CP12-2.

Does the Bohemian wooden tray kit maintain its finish under normal conditions?

Once the drills are seated and the surface is sealed, the Bohemian design holds under normal use. The surface is sealed, so it handles mugs and plates in normal use. Very hot pans straight from the hob are another matter — use a trivet, and the sealing step is the single biggest factor in how long the finish lasts. There is nothing brittle about the finished Bohemian piece.

How often should the Bohemian wooden tray kit be cleaned?

Wipe with a damp cloth and dry immediately. Do not submerge it or put it through a dishwasher — the adhesive layer under the drills is not built for a soak. For the Bohemian palette, terracotta, sand and deep rust tones show dust less than pale grounds, so a light pass is usually enough. Nothing abrasive should touch the Bohemian surface.

Is the Bohemian piece completely drilled?

The face is drilled across the whole surface, so the finished tray has complete coverage without bare wood showing. The Bohemian artwork is drawn so that a layered boho composition of arches reads clearly at any distance. The whole Bohemian surface carries the drilled finish.

How quickly can the Bohemian design be completed?

Plan for a few sessions rather than one. Working a single colour block at a time is faster than moving across the tray at random. The Bohemian design is earthy and relaxed, which tends to make it easier to work in short sessions. The Bohemian piece can be paused at any point.

Which Bohemian size is the most popular?

The range covers 7.8 × 11.8 in, 9.8 × 13.8 in and 12.2 × 16.1 in, so there is a format for a bedside table or a full dinner service. This listing is the 9.8×13.8 in format. Reference CP12-2.

Made this for our coffee table and get compliments on it constantly. Good weight to the materials, it doesn’t feel cheap. Finish is even and the whole thing looks tidy once you’re done. The adhesive picked up a bit of dust while I was working over several days. Great way to slow down at the end of a busy day. I’m really proud of how it turned out. Happy with it, with a few caveats.

Exactly what the listing described, no surprises. Looks beautiful on the coffee table with a candle on it. Wish it came with a protective finish already applied. I’d recommend it with that one note.

Made this for our coffee table and get compliments on it constantly. The drilled panel is recessed so it’s protected from spills. It’s a lovely quiet hobby, and I like having something to show for it at the end. Not something I’d put in the dishwasher or soak, obviously. Still a solid purchase.

Exactly what the listing described, no surprises. Nice finish on the wood, not rough or unfinished. I do a section after work with a cup of tea and it’s a nice way to unwind. The drilled panel sits slightly proud of the rim. Looks beautiful on the coffee table with a candle on it. Minor things, but I’d still buy it again.

Made this for our coffee table and get compliments on it constantly. Handles make it easy to carry from the kitchen to the couch. Would make a really nice gift, and it arrives boxed nicely. There were slightly more drills than needed, so it took longer than planned. Minor things, but I’d still buy it again.

I picked this up on a whim and ended up really enjoying it. It’s tidied up a spot that had been a mess for months. The adhesive picked up a bit of dust while I was working over several days. I’d order it again knowing what I know now.

  7. Natasha Hatcher –

Made one for my sister and now she wants the kit too. Spare drills were included, which I appreciated. Everything felt well made, from the tools to the drills. I brought it on a weekend trip and finished most of it there. Not something I’d put in the dishwasher or soak, obviously. It’s become the anchor of the nightstand. Would buy again; the notes are minor.

Bought it as a housewarming gift and it was a hit. Packaging was tidy and nothing had spilled in transit. Good weight to the materials, it doesn’t feel cheap. Quiet Sunday mornings with this and a coffee is my favorite part of the week. You’ll want to seal it yourself if you’re putting wet glasses on it. Looks beautiful on the coffee table with a candle on it. Happy with it, with a few caveats.

Exactly what the listing described, no surprises. The finish looks polished rather than homemade. I wish it came pre-sealed. I found it genuinely enjoyable rather than just something to finish. Good kit overall, just a couple of small things.

  11. Sandy Langford –

The wood base makes this feel like real decor. Everything was bagged and labeled, so setup took five minutes. The pen was fine, though I ended up using my own. I do it at the kitchen table while dinner simmers. Would buy again; the notes are minor.

Made this for our coffee table and get compliments on it constantly. The wood is thick and finished smoothly, no splinters anywhere. Great gift for anyone who likes hosting. The wood arrived with one small scuff on the side. Still a solid purchase.

I’ve done a handful of these now and this one is up there with the best. Good weight to the materials, it doesn’t feel cheap. I found it really peaceful to focus on one small area at a time. The finished piece gets compliments from everyone who visits. Not something I’d put in the dishwasher or soak, obviously. Would order again despite the small issues.

  14. Charlotte Nolan (verified owner) –

Bought this for our coffee table and it’s become a fixture. Wood feels solid, much better than the thin pressed board I’ve seen. I found it genuinely enjoyable rather than just something to finish. Took me a while to get the hang of the multi-placer tip. Happy with it, with a few caveats.

I ordered this for my dresser and it’s become a centerpiece. It’s organized the whole surface with one addition. Instructions were minimal, though it’s easy enough to figure out. Good kit — the notes above are minor.

Ordered two kits, this was the one I finished first. The base is flat and doesn’t rock on the table. Not something I’d put in the dishwasher or soak, obviously. It’s a lovely quiet hobby, and I like having something to show for it at the end. Minor things, but I’d still buy it again.

Bought this after finishing my last kit and it was a good call. Surface is flat and level, glasses don’t wobble on it. Not something to soak or put in the dishwasher. Great for unwinding after a busy week. It’s become the anchor of the nightstand. Would recommend it with those notes.

I bought this to have something to look forward to after work. Nothing arrived damaged, and everything was sealed properly. I put on an audiobook and worked through it in a few sittings. I use it for serving when we have people over. Wish it came with a protective finish already applied. Good enough that I’d buy another.

  20. CraftRoomCleanout –

Bought this for the guest room and it gets comments from visitors. The tray has real weight to it, feels like serveware. One small scuff on the wood when it arrived. I do this while listening to music and the time disappears. It looks beautiful with a candle and a book on it. Happy with it, with one small caveat.

  21. Cara Fuentes (verified owner) –

Bought this to do with my daughter on rainy days. Solid wood, much better than the pressed board versions. Really soothing to focus on one small area at a time. Makes a lovely gift for anyone who hosts. The adhesive picked up lint over the days I worked on it. Worth it, just go in with the right expectations.

  22. Jennifer Holden –

I bought this for our weekend place and it’s been a hit. This one might be my favorite finish yet. I wish the instructions went into a bit more detail for a first-timer. Good kit overall, just a couple of small things.

  23. Edmund Norman –

Heavier and nicer in person than it looked online. The wood finish is smooth and looks properly done. The drills clicked into place without needing much pressure. Only small gripe is that a few drills had little burrs on them. I listened to a podcast and the time went by without noticing. It holds two mugs and a plate with room to spare. Worth it, just go in with the right expectations.

Arrived well packed and ready to start. Makes a lovely gift for anyone who hosts. The handles are a bit narrow for larger hands. Good enough that I’d buy another.
