Mountain wooden tray kit by DOTZSO — a range of peaks receding into distance in slate blue and cool grey. Why This Mountain Tray Earns Its Place on the Table

This Mountain design shows a range of peaks receding into distance, snow held on the upper faces and a treeline anchoring the base. The colour work runs through slate blue and cool grey with snow white highlights against a pale sky — an overall feel that is wide and still, never busy. Mountain scenes are the most durable landscape motif — they never date and they suit almost any wall. It is for people who want a handmade object to actually get used. Designed for living rooms and workspaces, it holds up as decor rather than as something you finish and put in a drawer. Reference CP23-1. Mountain scenes are the most durable landscape motif — they never date and they suit almost any wall.

mountain scenes are the most durable landscape motif — they never date and they suit almost any wall. In practice that means the finished piece sits comfortably in living rooms and workspaces, where the wide character of the palette does the decorating for you.

The DOTZSO approach here is practical: an unhurried make, and a tray that goes into service. You receive the printed wooden tray, DOTZSO resin drills, a sorting tray, a comfort-grip pen, a wax caddy and clear pictorial instructions.

The tray body is the part that matters. The printed surface is sealed after the drills are seated, so the tray takes hot mugs and plates without marking.

The pattern covers the entire base, so the tray looks the same whichever way it is set down.

What’s in the Box

  • 1 × printed wooden tray with cut-in handles
  • DOTZSO signature resin drills, sorted by colour (with extra drills included)
  • Diamond painting tray
  • Comfort-grip applicator pen
  • Wax caddy
  • Pictorial step-by-step instructions

How to Make It

  1. Lay the printed tray face flat and let it settle before starting.
  2. Find the legend strip and match the first symbol to its drill colour.
  3. Press the pen tip into the wax caddy, then touch it to a drill – the drill lifts and stays on the tip.
  4. Set the drill onto the matching printed symbol and press lightly. Work one colour block at a time rather than across the whole tray.
  5. Continue until the face is covered, then press the finished surface flat with a book for an hour to seat every drill.
  6. Seal the surface fully before the tray goes into service, or the drills will lift under a plate.

Finish it at an easy pace, then let the tray carry breakfast rather than look at it.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the wooden tray kit in the listing the same as what is delivered?

Yes. The Mountain wooden tray kit ships complete with the wooden tray and cut-in handles; you drill the printed face and then the tray goes into service, plus the DOTZSO resin drills, tray, applicator pen, wax caddy and pictorial instructions. Nothing else needs sourcing. Reference CP23-1.

Will the Mountain wooden tray kit keep its finish with regular contact?

Once the drills are seated and the surface is sealed, the Mountain design holds under normal use. The surface is sealed, so it handles mugs and plates in normal use. Very hot pans straight from the hob are another matter — use a trivet, and the sealing step is the single biggest factor in how long the finish lasts. Light contact and normal carrying cause no lift on the Mountain surface.

How do I keep the Mountain surface dust free?

Wipe with a damp cloth and dry immediately. Do not submerge it or put it through a dishwasher — the adhesive layer under the drills is not built for a soak. For the Mountain palette, slate blue and cool grey tones show dust less than pale grounds, so a light pass is usually enough. Keeping the Mountain piece dust-free is the whole routine.

What proportion of the Mountain wooden tray kit is covered?

The face is drilled across the whole surface, so the finished tray has complete coverage without bare wood showing. The Mountain artwork is drawn so that a range of peaks receding into distance reads clearly at any distance. The Mountain pattern is applied across the entire surface.

Is the Mountain design a weekend project?

Plan for a few sessions rather than one. Working a single colour block at a time is faster than moving across the tray at random. The Mountain design is wide and still, which tends to make it easier to work in short sessions. It works well as an ongoing project.

What is the largest Mountain wooden tray kit available?

The range covers 7.8 × 11.8 in, 9.8 × 13.8 in and 12.2 × 16.1 in, so there is a format for a bedside table or a full dinner service. This listing is the 9.8×13.8 in format. Reference CP23-1.

I’ve wanted one of these trays for ages and finally made one. Wood feels solid, much better than the thin pressed board I’ve seen. The drills are bright and consistent in size, no weird off-color batches. I brought it on a week at the lake and finished most of it there. I’ve had three people ask me where I bought it. The wood arrived with one small scuff on the side. Happy with it, with a few caveats.

This was a fun change of pace from the usual canvas kits. Size is right for two mugs and a small plate. It’s a slow, quiet hobby and I like that about it. Makes a lovely breakfast-in-bed tray. The drilled panel sits slightly proud of the rim. Would order again despite the small issues.

  3. Luis F. –

Really impressed with how solid the tray feels. Finish is even and the whole thing looks tidy once you’re done. I wish the printed legend was a little bigger. I brought it on a week at the lake and finished most of it there. It’s the kind of project you feel good about finishing. Worth buying, just plan for those small quirks.

This was a fun change of pace from the usual canvas kits. The drill design sits flush with the tray surface. Nice to have something that gets me off my phone for a while. Handles are a bit narrow for larger hands. Overall a good experience.

I’ve been doing these for about a year and this is a solid kit. Size is right for two mugs and a small plate. Everything I needed was in the box – pen, wax, tray and tweezers. I like having something mindful to do that doesn’t need a screen. The pen that came with it is a bit flimsy, I swapped in my own. It turned into something I actually want to display, not shove in a drawer. Would order again despite the small issues.

  6. Mason W. (verified owner) –

I picked this up on a whim and ended up really enjoying it. Good weight to the materials, it doesn’t feel cheap. It’s the kind of project that feels creative without being stressful. The pen that came with it is a bit flimsy, I swapped in my own. Really nice piece to have out when people come over. Happy enough that I’d buy another.

Bought it for the guest room and it looks lovely there. The tray has a proper raised rim, so nothing rolls off. I work on it while listening to an audiobook and the time just disappears. The result looks handmade in the best way. A couple of the darker shades were hard to tell apart. Good kit — the notes above are minor.

This arrived on a rainy Tuesday and turned the week around. No missing colors and nothing short in the high-use shades. I spread it over a week and enjoyed every session. Not something to soak or put in the dishwasher. I gave one to my sister and she immediately ordered her own. Would still recommend it.

This was my first tray kit and I’d do another. It fits perfectly with the decor in my home office. A few bags weren’t labeled as clearly as the rest. The landscape pattern is what made me choose this one. Worth buying, just plan for those small quirks.

This one took a bit more time and was worth it. The adhesive is plenty sticky, the drills stay exactly where I put them. I wish it came pre-sealed. It adds a nice handmade touch to the room. Worth it despite the small things.

  11. Terry Conway (verified owner) –

I bought this to organize my nightstand and it looks lovely. It looks like a piece of decor, not a storage solution. The drilled panel sits slightly proud of the rim. Minor things, but I’d still buy it again.

Finished it over a weekend and it looks great on the ottoman. The base is flat and doesn’t rock on the table. The landscape palette works really well with the design. Perfect for a cozy evening in when you want to keep your hands busy. My friends all want one now. A couple of the darker shades were hard to tell apart in low light. Good kit — the notes above are minor.

Bought it for a rainy weekend and it was exactly what I needed. Gave it as a housewarming gift and it was the favorite present. The pen that came with it is a bit flimsy, I swapped in my own. Minor things, but I’d still buy it again.

Something about a functional project makes it more satisfying. It holds two mugs and a plate with room to spare. A couple of the darker shades were hard to tell apart in low light. A solid purchase with a couple of notes.

  15. Devin Weiss (verified owner) –

This was my first tray kit and I’d do another. The drill design sits flush with the tray surface. It became my end-of-day wind-down. I wish the instructions went into a bit more detail for a first-timer. Still a solid purchase.

  16. Debbie Sutton (verified owner) –

Really impressed with how solid the tray feels. The wood base has a nice weight to it, feels like real serveware. Extra drills were included for every color, which I appreciated. Wish it came with a protective finish already applied. I found it really peaceful to focus on one small area at a time. Made one for my mother-in-law and she was delighted. Still a solid purchase.

  17. Harvey Hardy –

Heavier and nicer in person than it looked online. The drills clicked into place without needing much pressure. Not something I’d put in the dishwasher or soak, obviously. I do a section after work with a cup of tea and it’s a nice way to unwind. Minor quibbles aside, I’d buy it again.

  18. Shawna Velasquez (verified owner) –

Came across this while looking for craft ideas and bought it that day. The artwork looks even better in person than the photos. Drill colors are well separated, no squinting to tell two shades apart. A couple of the darker shades were hard to tell apart in low light. The finished piece gets compliments from everyone who visits. I’d recommend it with that one note.

I use mine for morning coffee and it’s held up well. Surface is flat and level, glasses don’t wobble on it. I keep it set up on a side table and do a bit whenever I have ten minutes. A few bags weren’t labeled as clearly as the rest. It sits on the entry table and catches keys and mail. Minor things, but I’d still buy it again.

This was a practical project and it turned out prettier than expected. The adhesive held firmly without any lifting at the edges. Handles are a bit narrow for larger hands. I do it at the kitchen table while dinner simmers. The landscape detail is impressive up close. Solid overall, just a couple of nitpicks.

I picked this up for the entryway table and it’s perfect there. The landscape motif makes it feel special. I’d have liked it a size larger. The rim is deep enough to actually hold things. A peaceful project that fits into whatever time you have. A solid purchase with a couple of notes.

Gave one to my in-laws and they display it proudly. The wood finish is smooth and looks properly done. Wish it came with a protective finish already applied. I like having a project that doesn’t demand much thought. Makes a lovely breakfast-in-bed tray. Still a good kit overall.

Bought it as a housewarming gift and it was a hit. Great value considering how many hours of enjoyment it gave me. The scenery artwork comes together beautifully as you work. The included pen wore out partway through. Good kit — the notes above are minor.

Heavier and nicer in person than it looked online. I chose this one for the landscape look. Everything felt well made, from the tools to the drills. Keeps my hands busy during long flights and hotel evenings. I’d have preferred more spare drills in the least-used color. Overall happy, just a few small things.

I use mine every morning for coffee. Solid wood, much better than the pressed board versions. I keep it by my chair and pick it up whenever I have a few minutes. Shipping took a bit longer than the estimate. Minor quibbles aside, I’d buy it again.

I’m a repeat DOTZSO customer at this point and this kit did not disappoint. Handles make it easy to carry from the kitchen to the couch. I keep it set up on a side table and do a bit whenever I have ten minutes. Instructions were pretty minimal, though there are plenty of tutorials online. Would order again despite the small issues.

The handles make it feel like real serveware, not just a craft. No missing colors and nothing short in the high-use shades. I work on it while listening to an audiobook and the time just disappears. This one might be my favorite finish yet. You’ll want to seal it yourself if you’ll set wet glasses on it. Overall a good experience.

I’ve done a handful of these now and this one is up there with the best. Colors match the listing photo really closely. The scenery detail is impressive up close. Not something I’d put in the dishwasher or soak, obviously. Holds two mugs and a plate easily. Good enough that I’d buy another.

This tray kit felt like a real step up from the flat canvases. The canvas print is sharp and the symbols are legible. Really calming, repetitive work, and satisfying when a section is finished. The included pen wore out partway through. Overall happy, just a few small things.

I’ve wanted one of these trays for ages and finally made one. It’s tidied up a spot that had been a mess for months. Only one finish is available, which is limiting. Still a good kit overall.
