Red Truck wooden tray kit by DOTZSO — a vintage pickup in profile carrying a tied-down pine tree in the bed in barn red bodywork. The chrome and glass are worked in cool greys over the warm body, which is what stops the truck reading as a flat red shape. It suits a dining table that gets used every evening. Everything needed ships in the box: the printed wooden tray, DOTZSO resin drills, tray, pen, wax and instructions.

Why This Red Truck Tray Earns Its Place on the Table

This piece takes a vintage pickup in profile carrying a tied-down pine tree in the bed, cab and chrome picked out in highlights as its subject, rendered in barn red bodywork with cream trim against a winter white ground. The mood settles at nostalgic and cheerful, which is what keeps it easy to live with. A red truck with a tree is the modern farmhouse shorthand for the season, and it holds its place through winter. It suits a dining table that gets used every evening. Designed for Christmas displays and farmhouse interiors, it holds up as decor rather than as something you finish and put in a drawer. Reference CP26. A red truck with a tree is the modern farmhouse shorthand for the season, and it holds its place through winter It is also why the piece keeps working after the novelty fades.

a red truck with a tree is the modern farmhouse shorthand for the season, and it holds its place through winter. That is what lets it hold Christmas displays and farmhouse interiors together with a single nostalgic accent.

Built by DOTZSO for daily use, this kit ends in an object that stays out on the counter. Inside the box you get a printed wooden tray with cut-in handles, DOTZSO resin drills, a sorting tray, a comfort-grip applicator pen, a wax caddy and pictorial instructions.

A tray stays out on the counter if it can take a hot mug. That is what the sealed surface and solid body are for.

Full coverage across the face gives the tray a consistent surface that reads well from above.

What’s in the Box

  • 1 × printed wooden tray with cut-in handles
  • DOTZSO signature resin drills, sorted by colour (with extra drills included)
  • Diamond painting tray
  • Comfort-grip applicator pen
  • Wax caddy
  • Pictorial step-by-step instructions

How to Make It

  1. Lay the printed tray face flat and let it settle before starting.
  2. Find the legend strip and match the first symbol to its drill colour.
  3. Press the pen tip into the wax caddy, then touch it to a drill – the drill lifts and stays on the tip.
  4. Set the drill onto the matching printed symbol and press lightly. Work one colour block at a time rather than across the whole tray.
  5. Continue until the face is covered, then press the finished surface flat with a book for an hour to seat every drill.
  6. Seal the surface fully before the tray goes into service, or the drills will lift under a plate.

Finish it over a few evenings, then put the tray straight to work — it is designed for daily service, not shelf duty.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the wooden tray kit for the Red Truck design sold as one complete unit?

Yes. The Red Truck wooden tray kit ships complete with the wooden tray and cut-in handles; you drill the printed face and then the tray goes into service, plus the DOTZSO resin drills, tray, applicator pen, wax caddy and pictorial instructions. Nothing else needs sourcing. Reference CP26.

Is the Red Truck wooden tray kit built to be handled, or is it delicate?

Once the drills are seated and the surface is sealed, the Red Truck design holds under normal use. The surface is sealed, so it handles mugs and plates in normal use. Very hot pans straight from the hob are another matter — use a trivet, and the sealing step is the single biggest factor in how long the finish lasts. The Red Truck finish is designed to be used, not just looked at.

How do I keep the Red Truck wooden tray kit looking new?

Wipe with a damp cloth and dry immediately. Do not submerge it or put it through a dishwasher — the adhesive layer under the drills is not built for a soak. For the Red Truck palette, barn red bodywork tones show dust less than pale grounds, so a light pass is usually enough. Regular light cleaning keeps the Red Truck finish crisp.

Does the Red Truck wooden tray kit leave any background showing?

The face is drilled across the whole surface, so the finished tray has complete coverage without bare wood showing. The Red Truck artwork is drawn so that a vintage pickup in profile carrying a tied-down pine tree in the bed reads clearly at any distance. Every part of the Red Truck design is worked.

Is the Red Truck wooden tray kit a single-session project?

Plan for a few sessions rather than one. Working a single colour block at a time is faster than moving across the tray at random. The Red Truck design is nostalgic and cheerful, which tends to make it easier to work in short sessions. The Red Truck pattern builds up quickly once the colour blocks start.

Does the Red Truck design scale well across sizes?

The range covers 7.8 × 11.8 in, 9.8 × 13.8 in and 12.2 × 16.1 in, so there is a format for a bedside table or a full dinner service. This listing is the 7.8×11.8 in format. Reference CP26.

I use mine for morning coffee and it’s held up well. Nice finish on the wood, not rough or unfinished. I do this on the porch in the summer and it’s lovely. Would definitely buy again.

I’ve wanted one of these trays for ages and finally made one. The drills came in labeled bags, which made sorting painless. I keep remotes and coasters on mine when it’s not in use. Instructions were pretty minimal, though there are plenty of tutorials online. Happy enough that I’d buy another.

This was a fun change of pace from the usual canvas kits. Size is right for two mugs and a small plate. The festive detail is impressive up close. The handles are a bit narrow for larger hands. Everything I needed was in the box – pen, wax, tray and tweezers. I did a little at a time and it never felt like a slog. Gave it to my nephew as a gift and it was a big hit. Would still recommend it.

Finished it over a weekend and it looks great on the ottoman. The wood is thick and finished smoothly, no splinters anywhere. I do it at the kitchen table while dinner simmers. Will be back for more.

Bought this for the guest room and it gets comments from visitors. The drill panel sits flush with the tray surface. A really satisfying project from start to finish. The corners collect a little dust that’s fiddly to reach. Worth it despite the small things.

Gave one to my in-laws and they display it proudly. The bottom has a slight grip to it so it doesn’t slide. The tweezers included were actually good quality. Surprisingly calming, even for someone with a short attention span. I’ve gotten so many compliments on it. Delighted with it.

Heavier and nicer in person than it looked online. The wood is thick and finished smoothly, no splinters anywhere. I’m a sucker for anything holiday-themed. The wood arrived with one small scuff on the side. Symbols on the chart are printed clearly enough to follow without guessing. I like that it’s creative without requiring any decisions. This tray kit felt like a real step up from the flat canvases. Colors match the listing photo really closely. The drills are bright and consistent in size, no weird off-color batches.
