butterfly motifs work in the transitional spaces of a home — the places that do not need a theme, just something with life in it. In practice that means the finished piece sits comfortably in hallways and entryways, where the delicate character of the palette does the decorating for you.

Each DOTZSO canvas is produced to be worked at your own pace and framed at the end of it. You get a colour-printed canvas, DOTZSO resin drills, a sorting tray, a comfort-grip pen, a wax caddy and clear step-by-step pictures.

Full drill coverage is the reason the finished canvas reads as artwork rather than craft. Every printed symbol is worked, so the shine is consistent across the whole surface.

The kit holds 1 canvases, allowing for a longer project or a shared session.

What’s in the Box

  • 1 × colour-printed canvas
  • DOTZSO signature resin drills, sorted by colour (with extra drills included)
  • Diamond painting tray
  • Comfort-grip applicator pen
  • Wax caddy
  • Pictorial step-by-step instructions

How to Make It

  1. Unroll the canvas on a flat surface and let it settle under something weighted if it has been rolled tight.
  2. Find the legend strip and match the first symbol to its drill colour.
  3. Press the pen tip into the wax caddy, then touch it to a drill – the drill lifts and stays on the tip.
  4. Set the drill onto the matching printed symbol and press lightly. Work one colour block at a time rather than jumping around the canvas.
  5. Continue until the design is complete, then press the finished surface flat with a book for an hour to seat every drill.
  6. Seat the canvas in its frame, or store it flat, once the surface has been pressed.

Complete it across a few quiet sessions, then frame it and let it hold the wall.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the diamond painting kit ready to use straight away?

Yes. The Butterfly diamond painting kit ships complete with everything shown in the product images, so there is nothing else to source, plus the DOTZSO resin drills, tray, applicator pen, wax caddy and pictorial instructions. Nothing else needs sourcing. Reference Q4881.

Will the Butterfly diamond painting kit stand up to regular use?

Once the drills are seated and the surface is sealed, the Butterfly design holds under normal use. The sealed surface handles normal handling, and the sealing step is the single biggest factor in how long the finish lasts. The bond across the Butterfly face is consistent throughout.

How do I remove marks from the Butterfly surface?

Wipe with a damp cloth and dry immediately. Do not submerge it or put it through a dishwasher — the adhesive layer under the drills is not built for a soak. For the Butterfly palette, iridescent blues and violets shifting toward warm orange at the wing edges tones show dust less than pale grounds, so a light pass is usually enough. Keep it out of prolonged direct sun to hold the Butterfly colours.

Does the Butterfly artwork have unworked sections?

The round resin drills are colour-sorted and matched to the printed symbol key. The Butterfly artwork is drawn so that a butterfly with wings held open reads clearly at any distance. The Butterfly piece has a uniform drilled finish.

Is the Butterfly design a slow build or a fast finish?

Plan for two to four evenings, depending on the size of the canvas. The Butterfly design is delicate and alive, which tends to make it easier to work in short sessions. Progress on the Butterfly piece is visibly steady.

Is the Butterfly design forgiving for beginners?

Yes. The symbol key is printed directly on the canvas and the pictorial instructions walk through the whole process, so no prior diamond painting experience is needed. The Butterfly layout is delicate and alive, which helps on a first attempt. Nothing has to be sourced locally.

Bigger than it looks in the photos, which was a nice surprise. The canvas is a good weight and the print underneath is detailed. I worked on this during my lunch breaks and it made the days feel better. The symbols are quite small in the detailed areas. Once framed it looks like something you’d buy in a gallery. Still a solid purchase.

Took it slow, a section at a time, and really enjoyed the process. Colors match the listing photo really closely. Each color was packed generously, I had plenty to spare. I worked on this during my lunch breaks and it made the days feel better. Really happy with the end result. The winged subject is rendered with more detail than I expected. The glue picked up a bit of dust over the weeks I worked on it. Minor things, but I’d still buy it again.

I picked this up on a whim and ended up really enjoying it. Full drill coverage means no blank canvas showing. Took longer than the estimated time, but that’s on me. It turned out better than I pictured. The artwork looks even better in person than the photos. Still worth it overall.

Bigger than it looks in the photos, which was a nice surprise. It’s the nicest thing I’ve made so far. I wish the printed legend was a little bigger. I’d recommend it with that one note.

  5. Marta Bain (verified owner) –

Bought this after finishing my last kit and it was a good call. The overall composition reads clearly from across the room. Spare drills were included, which I appreciated. The butterfly artwork looks great up on the wall. It took longer than the estimate, though that’s on me. It’s the sort of project that makes an evening feel well spent. It was worth every evening I put into it. Worth it, just go in with the right expectations.

I ordered this to fill a blank wall in the hallway. The canvas is a good weight with a detailed print underneath. I keep it by my chair and pick it up whenever I have a few minutes. The sorting tray is shallow, drills spill out if you’re not careful. Overall a good experience.

Bought it to have something to look forward to after work. The butterfly colors are richer than the photos show. The symbols are quite small in the detailed areas. It’s framed and on the wall now. Happy with it, with a few caveats.

I hung it in the hallway and people always ask where I got it. The butterfly design is even prettier in person than in the photos. The symbols are quite small in the detailed areas. Color count is higher than my earlier kits, which shows in the finished piece. Once it was framed it really pulled the room together. Good kit overall, just a couple of small things.

  9. Ravi Ellison (verified owner) –

I framed it once finished and it looks like real artwork. The legend was easy to follow and matched the canvas printing. The box arrived a bit dented, though nothing inside was damaged. Really calming, repetitive work, and satisfying when a section is finished. A good buy, with one or two caveats.

Ordered on a Monday, had it by the weekend. Once framed it looks like something you’d buy in a gallery. The sorting tray is shallow, drills spill out if you’re not careful. I’d recommend it with that one note.

The detail on this canvas is what sold me. It fills the wall above the sofa beautifully. I’d have liked a paper chart as well as the printed one. Small issues, but nothing that would stop me ordering again.

This was my first diamond painting kit and I’m officially hooked. Framed in a simple black frame and it looks like real art. The symbols are quite small in the detailed areas. Minor things, but I’d still buy it again.

Picked this for the size and stayed for the color range. It’s framed and hanging in our the entryway now. The pen was fine, though I ended up using my own. A good buy, with one or two caveats.

  14. Allison Brown (verified owner) –

This was my first full size canvas and it turned out better than I hoped. Full drill coverage means no blank canvas showing through. Gave it to my best friend as a gift and it went over really well. The glue picked up a bit of dust over the weeks I worked on it. A solid purchase with a couple of notes.

  15. Lorraine Mccormick (verified owner) –

This is the largest kit I’ve done and it turned out beautifully. The finished piece looks stunning in natural light. I had to press the canvas under books overnight before starting. Happy with it, with a few caveats.

  16. Seth Baker –

This kept me busy through the whole winter. The canvas laid flat after a day under a couple of books. I worked on this with my mother and we both got absorbed in it. It took longer than the estimate, though that’s on me. It’s the centerpiece of that wall. Would still recommend it.

Came quickly and was packaged really well. Finish is even and the whole thing looks tidy once you’re done. The packaging was a little crushed on one corner. If you like butterfly designs, this is a good one to go for. Gave it to my son as a gift and it was a big hit. Happy with it, with a few caveats.

This kept me busy for a solid month in the best way. The canvas came rolled, and it flattened out with no creases. I work on it after dinner and it helps me switch off. The butterfly piece really pulls the room together once it’s hung. The adhesive picked up lint over the days I worked on it. It’s framed and hanging in our the front entry now. Worth buying, just plan for those small quirks.

The color range on this one is impressive. Hung it in the hallway and it brightens the whole space. The symbols are small in the detailed areas. I’d order again, just knowing what to expect.

The finished size makes a real statement on the wall. Made this as a gift for my parents’ anniversary. The pen that came with it is a bit flimsy, I swapped in my own. Happy enough that I’d buy another.

  21. Danielle Ruiz (verified owner) –

Bought it for a rainy weekend and it was exactly what I needed. Drill colors are well separated, no squinting to tell two shades apart. The winged piece really pulls the room together once it’s hung. This is the kind of craft that’s genuinely calming after a hectic day. The pen that came with it is a bit flimsy, I swapped in my own. Good kit overall, just a couple of small things.

I framed it once finished and it looks like real artwork. The canvas feels substantial, not thin or flimsy. Nice to have something that gets me off my phone for a while. The glue picked up a bit of dust over the weeks I worked on it. I’d recommend it with that one note.
