Why This Bohemian Tray Earns Its Place on the Table

Here the Bohemian pattern is a layered boho composition of arches, fringed forms and repeated geometric motifs arranged in loose horizontal bands, worked through terracotta, sand and deep rust with flashes of teal across a warm neutral ground. The finished character is earthy and relaxed — deliberate, not accidental. Boho motifs suit rooms built on natural materials, where the earthy palette already does half the work. It suits a dining table that gets used every evening. Designed for living rooms with a warm, natural palette, it holds up as decor rather than as something you finish and put in a drawer. Reference CP11-2. The arches are left open rather than filled, which is what gives the composition its airy quality instead of a dense block Which keeps the design honest about what it is.

boho motifs suit rooms built on natural materials, where the earthy palette already does half the work. Which is the reason it works as well in living rooms with a warm, natural palette as it does anywhere else.

This is a DOTZSO tray kit for anyone who wants a useful piece of homeware at the end of it. The kit arrives with the printed wooden tray, DOTZSO resin drills, a tray, a comfort-grip pen, a wax caddy and step-by-step pictorial guidance.

Built to be used rather than displayed, the tray pairs a solid body with a fully seated and sealed drill face.

Drilling the face in full is what gives the tray its solid, finished feel.

What’s in the Box

  • 1 × printed wooden tray with cut-in handles
  • DOTZSO signature resin drills, sorted by colour (with extra drills included)
  • Diamond painting tray
  • Comfort-grip applicator pen
  • Wax caddy
  • Pictorial step-by-step instructions

How to Make It

  1. Lay the printed tray face flat and let it settle before starting.
  2. Find the legend strip and match the first symbol to its drill colour.
  3. Press the pen tip into the wax caddy, then touch it to a drill – the drill lifts and stays on the tip.
  4. Set the drill onto the matching printed symbol and press lightly. Work one colour block at a time rather than across the whole tray.
  5. Continue until the face is covered, then press the finished surface flat with a book for an hour to seat every drill.
  6. Seal the surface fully before the tray goes into service, or the drills will lift under a plate.

Finish the surface in stages, then seal it and start carrying things on it.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will I need to buy anything else to finish this wooden tray kit?

Yes. The Bohemian wooden tray kit ships complete with the wooden tray and cut-in handles; you drill the printed face and then the tray goes into service, plus the DOTZSO resin drills, tray, applicator pen, wax caddy and pictorial instructions. Nothing else needs sourcing. Reference CP11-2.

Does the Bohemian finish remain even with use?

Once the drills are seated and the surface is sealed, the Bohemian design holds under normal use. The surface is sealed, so it handles mugs and plates in normal use. Very hot pans straight from the hob are another matter — use a trivet, and the sealing step is the single biggest factor in how long the finish lasts. Nothing in the Bohemian assembly works loose under normal handling.

What care keeps the Bohemian design at its best?

Wipe with a damp cloth and dry immediately. Do not submerge it or put it through a dishwasher — the adhesive layer under the drills is not built for a soak. For the Bohemian palette, terracotta, sand and deep rust tones show dust less than pale grounds, so a light pass is usually enough. A soft brush reaches the texture between drills.

Is the drill pattern on the Bohemian wooden tray kit complete or selective?

The face is drilled across the whole surface, so the finished tray has complete coverage without bare wood showing. The Bohemian artwork is drawn so that a layered boho composition of arches reads clearly at any distance. All of the Bohemian face is drill-covered.

What is the typical completion time for the Bohemian design?

Plan for a few sessions rather than one. Working a single colour block at a time is faster than moving across the tray at random. The Bohemian design is earthy and relaxed, which tends to make it easier to work in short sessions. Progress on the Bohemian piece is visibly steady.

Which Bohemian size is most popular?

The range covers 7.8 × 11.8 in, 9.8 × 13.8 in and 12.2 × 16.1 in, so there is a format for a bedside table or a full dinner service. This listing is the 9.8×13.8 in format. Reference CP11-2.

  1. Daniela P. (verified owner) –

Really impressed with how solid the tray feels. Nice finish on the wood, not rough or unfinished. Took a bit longer to arrive than I expected. I do a section after work with a cup of tea and it’s a nice way to unwind. It’s the kind of project you feel good about finishing. Worth buying, just plan for those small quirks.

I use mine for morning coffee and it’s held up well. Handles make it easy to carry from the kitchen to the couch. Some colors came with barely any extras, though I didn’t run out. It’s a slow, quiet hobby and I like that about it. Overall a good experience.

The wood base makes this feel like real decor. The handles make it genuinely practical, not just decorative. Some colors came with barely any extras, though I didn’t run out. Happy with it despite the small stuff.

Exactly what the listing described, no surprises. A really satisfying project from start to finish. The sorting tray is shallow, drills spill out if you’re not careful. Still glad I ordered it overall.

  6. Celia Francis (verified owner) –

Arrived well packed and ready to start. The finished piece looks far more expensive than the kit cost. The adhesive picked up lint over the days I worked on it. Overall a good experience.

  7. Kate Novak (verified owner) –

Heavier and nicer in person than it looked online. The finish looks polished rather than homemade. It’s my go-to when I want something enjoyable that doesn’t take much thought. The corners collect a little dust that’s fiddly to reach. Overall a good experience.

  8. NightShiftNina –

This was a practical project and it turned out prettier than expected. The corners are finished cleanly with no gaps. It’s the sort of project that makes an evening feel well spent. It holds everything it needs to without looking cluttered. The wood arrived with one small scuff on the side. Still glad I ordered it overall.

  9. Angela Courtney (verified owner) –

This was my first tray kit and I’d do another. The wood base has a nice weight to it, feels like real serveware. Some colors had very few spare drills. I did a section a night and looked forward to it each time. It’s the sort of object that makes a room feel more finished. I’d order it again knowing what I know now.

I’ve tried a few brands and this one holds up well. The finished piece looks far more expensive than the kit cost. The drilled panel sits slightly proud of the rim. Small things aside, it’s a good buy.

Bought it to have something to look forward to after work. It adds a nice handmade touch to the room. You’ll want to seal it yourself if you’ll set wet glasses on it. I’d recommend it with that one note.

  12. Heather Wheeler (verified owner) –

The tray format is such a nice change of pace. The drilled panel is recessed so it’s protected from spills. Handles are a bit narrow for larger hands. Nice mindful project – you can’t think about much else while you’re placing drills. Happy enough that I’d buy another.

  13. Fernando Oconnor (verified owner) –

Made this for our coffee table and get compliments on it constantly. Surface is flat and level, glasses don’t wobble on it. My friends all want one now. A couple of the darker shades were hard to tell apart in low light. Worth buying, just plan for those small quirks.

  14. DesertDrillsAZ (verified owner) –

Such a nice little project to have on the go. It turned into something I actually want to display, not shove in a drawer. One color had a couple of misshapen drills, but spares covered it. Solid overall, just a couple of nitpicks.

  15. Kenny Graves (verified owner) –

I’ve done a handful of these now and this one is up there with the best. Handles make it easy to carry from the kitchen to the couch. I wish it came pre-sealed. It’s easy to lose track of time once you get going. It’s on our ottoman and gets used for coffee every morning. Happy enough that I’d buy another.

  16. Karla Huff (verified owner) –

Bought this for the guest room and it gets comments from visitors. The drills are uniform and sit flat with no gaps. I like having a project that doesn’t demand much thought. The multi-placer tip took some practice. It’s the piece that made the entryway feel finished. Happy with it, with a few caveats.

  17. Elena F. (verified owner) –

Really impressed with how solid the tray feels. Each color was packed generously, I had plenty to spare. The drills came in labeled bags, which made sorting painless. Really relaxing to do in the evening instead of scrolling. Looks beautiful on the coffee table with a candle on it. Wish it came with a protective finish already applied. I’d recommend it with that one note.

Overall happy, just a few small things.
